Kimiko walked through the academy dorms. She was searching for her room. She was a bit lost about it, but she didn’t want to go back to the administration and ask for help. She could do this on her own. She held a paper or a note in her hands which had her dorm number and room on it. She knew she’d be sharing a room with someone and she didn’t quite like the idea. The idea of living in a small space, but also sharing the small space sickened her. Oh well! She’d get used to it.

Kimiko sighed at her mental defeat and stopped in front of a door.

‘Oh this must be the room,’ she thought to herself. She took a deep breath to stay calm and opened the door. Slowly to be more specific. The door made an eerie noise as she did.

She would see a figure in the room, apparently doing something, "H-Hello?" would come from her lips.

A fish out of water.

Literally, that’s what she was.

Rio was still fresh off the Starlight Boat. Like, three days fresh. She still was at a loss at how to traverse about a big scary school full of a variety of students. Having her nose stuck in this month’s Teen Vogue had taught not prepared her for this. She even went out to buy this season’s hottest shade of lipstick for her first day of school. Her peers’ reaction? Not impressed.

So back to the drawing board. If she wasn’t going to make at least one friend by the end of the week, she was going to crawl back into the ocean and curl up in the deepest abyss she could find. Right now, she felt like a total failure. A guppy among sharks.

But there was hope.

Even though the private solitude was nice to get her bearings together, it appeared that she was to get a new roommate today. Her very first one. Unfortunately, this meant the eye-pleasing nautical-chic aesthetic she had already set up in her room would have to be condensed, but hopefully the pros would outweigh the cons. Maybe her forced rooming would lead to a new friend! Well, she could only hope.

Rio had tidied up to push her stuff and rearrange it to the side. There were two sleeping areas on either side of the room. One was a completely vacant bunk bed. The other was an inflatable kiddie pool. Hopefully the preparations were enough for the new person moving in.

In the kiddie pool, Rio rested. Around her fin-ears were a set of headphones blaring music while her webbed fingers leafed through the pages of one of her magazines. Clad in a cute bikini, so she didn’t get her clothes wet. She was so in the zone that she didn’t notice the figure coming in. It took her about thirty seconds for her to look up, and when she did, she was in for quite a scare.

A sound came from her lips that sounded akin to a dolphin’s squeal. She threw down the magazine, its pages becoming slowly waterlogged before sinking to the bottom. Her hand clenched her chest, before she relaxed a bit. ”Oh, my apologies! Didn’t see ya there.” She cried out awkwardly, her thick australian dialect showing through. ”You must be the new roommate. I-uh… This must be a tad bit weird to walk into, huh?” She figured so. Not many people slept in pools.
