Student| High School| 11
appearance
Mahiri bleaches their hair white blonde, though their natural dark color hair shows through at the roots. They have a slender build with slightly wider hips and more narrow shoulders. They have dark skin covered in freckles and hazel colored eyes often hidden behind thick lensed round glasses. Their face could be called more feminine looking and overall Mahiri tends towards the feminine side of androgyny.
They wear big, baggy clothes most of the time, preferring darker and more neutral colors. They prefer skirts and shorts to pants; stripes, paisley, and argyle make up a lot of the patterns of their clothes. Everything they own is covered in patches and stickers about UFOs, cryptids, and other otherworldly phenomena.
They have a habit of slouching and holding pens, straws, and the like behind their ears. They bite their nails when deep in thought.

personality
Mahiri has an overactive imagination. They have always been seriously entrenched in the idea of the supernatural, the paranormal, and all things weird. They are quick to defend their passion from others who deride them after years of being called delusional. They have an almost unnatural sense for seeing patterns and a ridiculously good memory for things that they have seen and heard.
They are insightful and observant and have a tendency to verbalize their overanalysation of things that happen around them. Likewise as a child of the information age raised in a sea of fandoms and nerd culture, they are incredibly genre savvy and knowledgeable about pop culture.
Mahiri takes notes on everything, both with a notebook and pen and a digital recorder. In addition to being a conspiracy theory buff, they are heavily into cryptography and computer programming as a means to better protect themselves from the 'sinister shadow governments' that rule the world. They are outspoken against any kind of government cover-up and generally speaking injustice of any kind. Religiously, Mahiri claims a plethora of mostly secular faiths but carries religious icons of other major religions as a means of protection. Just in case.
Since coming to the island, Mahiri has been disaffected to say the least. They are disappointed with how mundane everything is, even going so far as to insist that it all must be a ruse to keep them placated rather than learning The Truth(tm).

biography
Mahiri's family moved to the United States while their mother was still pregnant with them. The youngest of three children and markedly asocial, they delved into books and then later the internet to escape the mundane nature of their reality.
At a young age they watched a documentary on the Moth Man, which kick-started their fascination with the supernatural. Mahiri's family and the few friends they had derided them for what they all considered delusions, but this only served to further entrench the young conspiracy theorist in their online communities. They started teaching themselves skills that they thought would help them become the first person to have actual proof of a world behind the world they could see.
As Mahiri grew older, their fascination turned into something of an obsession. They began putting together a file on what they called the "Agents" who they were convinced were responsible for covering up paranormal activity. With the help of a few colleagues online, they eventually compiled their evidence and prepared to bait some of these "Agents" to their home town.
It worked, and Mahiri was met by Scouts from Starlight Academy who informed them that their activities had afforded them a place among the supernatural. Their parents, still ignorant and disbelieving their child, were told that Mahiri was being given a scholarship at the prestigious school for their advanced knowledge of computer systems.
Mahiri agreed to go to the island, if only to prove that they were right once and for all. But because they didn't trust these Scouts, they set up contingencies to leak the information they had gathered in case some shadow organization was trying to silence them.

additional info
Regularly emails fellow conspiracy theorists as a means of letting them know that they are still alive and that the information has not been leaked. Calls these people by days of the week rather than their names or online handles. Mahiri themself is Wednesday.
Unknown to Mahiri, there is no threat of this as Veil Security has already isolated the information contained in these copied files, meaning no non-Veil associated computer can access them. They allow Mahiri to continue sending the emails for their own peace of mind.
