"That's cool," she said when he informed her sharing made it easier for him to talk. "I like having something to mess with anyway, so the drink is still useful." She grinned, but it was fleeting.
She puffed up one cheek thoughtfully, not looking at him as he spoke. Shay absorbed everything Aedan told her, trying to understand where people like that were coming from. Logically, it made enough sense for her to grasp it, even if emotionally it tore her up inside.
"I won't give up on him. Not ever. I'm not a quitter. But..." Shay reached up with her free hand and laid it over her heart, "it still hurts." She looked up and met Aedan's eyes. This was not how Shay had seen her day going, but it wasn't bad. This was helpful. "If you were pulling away from someone and they still cared about you, how would you want them to approach the situation?"

Aedan kept up his kind smile as her's faded. He knew she was a good kid with a strong heart. He watched her as she thought and listened as she spoke. Aedan never considered himself wise, but he was patient and he could listen.
"It takes courage to not give up on someone when they want you to." He took a sip of his soda, nodding as she explained her pain and uncertainty. "Be patient, little by little, small conversations."
He was surprised this was coming from him, his dad was the wise sage not him, "if you push to hard he may retreat further. If your patient, and ease into it, he may open up." He pushed his sunglasses back up and drank the rest of his soda.

Aedan continued to give her a kind smile, "I'm Aedan Drago, call me Aedan." He pulled his sunglasses off, feeling that they may make communication difficult, "and Shay, you're not weak, your uncertain, you want to help a friend but you don't know how to approach it. The fact that your willing to trust someone when there unwilling to trust themselves says a lot about your character."
He looked in her eyes, "it says your hopefull, it says you look for the best in people, something to be celebrated. We need more people like that."

Though Shay didn't want to, she blushed at all of the compliments and waved them off awkwardly with a half-laugh. "Yeah, emotionally strong. I can be that. Physically, not so much. Compared to my family and the rest of the island, I'm practically human. Not a good thing around here. Humans are... well, lots of things eat humans." She rose her chin defiantly. "That's why I work so hard to be stronger, push myself and show my family I have what it takes to play in the big leagues."

"I'm not." Shay scrunched her nose up at the thought of being someone else's dinner. No thanks. She wasn't their prey. Her blushing only increased when Aedan continued to compliment her, though this time, she could accept them.
This was a logic that made sense to her, and she recalled Vito saying something similar and in not so many words. Strength, Shay was learning, was different than power and one shouldn't have been mistaken for another.
Shay looked at Abe as he came between her and Aedan, smiling softly. "My dad said: 'smart people rule the world.' I suppose it's true. It just..." she pulled her knees in closer to her chest, resting her chin on them. "I just wish I could stand with my family when shit hits the fan. I don't want to be their liability. I feel like I can do those things, if given the chance, but everyone is so worried I'll get hurt or die that they don't want to give it to me."

Aedan smiled at her, her strength and ambition was evident, truly incredible. "Shay, your 13, now I know you don't want to hear this, but your young, you have plenty of time to prove yourself."
"Now, I'm 16, yet I'm already in a cybernetics class, but you.....I can already tell that you have more intelligence and potential than I ever did." Abe lowered to the ground between them going into inactive mode.

"I can't really afford to be young," Shay responded. She was uncertain of such an answer. Being part of the Rosales' meant she very well may have been able to be a child, but it still felt like she couldn't. Years of having to grow up had left her different, and she could never go back now.
"Thank you, Aedan, but I doubt I'd rule the island." She pinched her arm, smiling softly. "I'm squishy compared to everyone here. The compliment helps, though."
She was quiet for a moment, contemplative as she watched him. "Aren't you Cecil's personal guard? I feel like I've seen you before..."

"I actually have your gift with me." He pulled out a small box about a foot long, "I was doing some last few adjustments to it." He smiled, "but I can't give it to you until your ready to go. Dont worry I think you'll like it."
