Looking... Watching...

Seth walked out of the school, pausing to look around. He saw the lake, the field, the forest, the mountains, the cliff. Not dark enough for the forest, he said to himself. Not in the mood for the open. Don't like the water. Not cold enough for the mountains yet. And I'm not in the right muse for the cliff. Maybe I'll compromise for once. So Seth set out with his notebook, pencil, and eraser in hand toward the lake. A good ten yards from the actual water, he sat and pulled his knees up some. He gave another quick look around before he opened his spiral and began to write.

Isabelle walked up to the water. It was to cold to go in. She stood there staring at it. She was wondering what her family was doing. She didn’t know if this school was the right place for her. Isabelle just didn’t feel like she belonged here.

"You think too loud," he muttered just loud enough for the girl to hear. He hadn't looked up, he hadn't paid any attention really. He just knew she was there. "That's not my power. Reading minds I mean. I can just feel you thinking. You know? Sometimes you can just tell when someone is thinking a lot." He stopped moving his pencil and looked up at her. "Seth. I am a pyro. You?"

"I’ll try not to think so loud next time Seth...." Isabelle said. She really was deep in thought at that moment. Isabelle had to snap herself out of it. "I’m Isabelle........I can blow stuff up and freeze things. Hardly interesting though." She said.

"That's where you're wrong," he said with a cocky smile. "Blowing things up is an awesome power. Someone ticks you off and you just look at their car and BOOM! No more car for someone who makes you mad. And freezing? Well, you could kick my butt. You freeze my flame and I have nothing left. Pyro you know? I personally like my fire powers, but that just makes me sound conceted and full of myself. Sorry. I'm talking too much." He blushed slightly and picked his pencil up again. He didn't usually talk this much. He was a loner by nature. Must be the new surroundings, he thought. I did the same thing at the orphanage when I first got there.

"Well thanks, I guess. As for talking to much, shut up! Only joking. I’m usually the one that talks a lot." Isabelle said walking closer to the boy. "Your new right?" Isabelle asked him curiously.

"Yep," he answered, "been here about..." He paused to look at his watch. "Wow. A whole four hours," he said sarcastically. "That's amazing. What about you?"

"Aw man you beat me, four days." Isabelle said sarcastically back to him. Her parents ditched her here, they said she would be ‘safer’. Isabelle never found out what they meant by that. Isabelle thought she’d be safer with her family.

"If you don't mind my asking," he began, setting his notebook and pencil down on the grass beside him, "what's your story? Everyone's got one, no matter what they say. I know I do. What's yours?" His dark eyes looked up at her; she still loomed over him since he was sitting and she was standing.

"I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours." Isabelle said to Seth as she sat down next to him. It was true, everyone here did have one, including her. She just tried not to think of it.
