Looking at the past

The door creaked open, and Vince walked into the dusty room. He looked around and saw it was empty and grey, almost like nobody has entered the room for thousands of years... until now. He searched around the room for a comfortable place to sit, and sat on the corner at the back of the room. He closed his eyes and his face pointed up. He cast his mind back to when he was a child. His grandmother suddenly appeared in his vision. He knew it wasn't real... because she was dead. Murdered by someone unknown. Suddenly, he remembered a day out with her, back when he was thirteen.

Vince was taken to the Natural Museum during his trip to South Africa, and he was extremely facinated by his discoveries. He did not know that apes were related to humans until recently. He did not know that birds were originally dinosaurs... but the best part of the day was when he learned that his grandmother was the granddaughter of a famous hunter who supposedly had the power to change into any animal he chose. Must have been where Vince got his power from. Coincidently, his name was Vincent Burrel Junior. Grandmother... Vince could not finish his thought before he burst into tears.

Felix heard the crying first.
For a few seconds, he assumed he'd been hearing things. To the best of his knowledge, no-one used the third floor for anything, so there shouldn't be anyone up there.
Regardless, Felix's curiosity led him to search the rooms.
He found a teenager, maybe slightly older than him, crying profusely. He didn't look like the kind of guy you'd typically find crying, but appearances could be deceptive.
"Are you OK? Is something wrong?"
The instant the words left his mouth, Felix felt like an idiot. He didn't know what was wrong with this guy - and appearances being deceptive wasn't enough to ignore the sword he was carrying.
Waiting for an answer, Felix kept his distance.

Vince got a slight fright as he heard another student ask him if he was ok. Vince was forced to dry his eyes before saying "I'm alright now." He was obviously far from ok, as a teardrop was still crawling down his cheek. "It's just... it's something that happened a long time ago." He didn't really want to give any details of his past... he felt it was too horrible for the other student, who looked ever so slightly younger than him. "Name's Vince."

"Felix. Felix Goldstone."
Felix didn't believe that Vince was 'alright' like he said he was. He said it was 'something that happened a long time ago'...
Don't get involved, Felix. It's not your problem.
That had to be right. Felix had to deal with his own problems before he tried to help anyone else.
"What are doing up here, anyway?"

"I just needed to think, that's all."
Vince then stopped crying. He felt as if a danger was approaching. But he did not know what the danger was... or even if it was real. He tried hard to ignore the feeling, but it became more intense. He looked at Felix. Could it be him? No... the danger seemed further away than that. "What about yourself? Why are you here?

"I came up here to find out what was happening. It's not every day you hear crying like that coming from up here, after all."
Although he was trying to maintain conversation, Vince seemed preoccupied, as if there was something else to focus on.
"Is there a problem, or are you just ignoring me?"

Vince looked back at Felix. "Oh, I heard what you were saying. You wanted to see me cry like a baby." Vince smiled slightly, but it did not show his true emotion. Confused as $$$$, Vince decided to tell Felix what he felt. "It was... I can't really explain clearly, but it's like someone's here... someone evil... Someone I know." Vince did not pay attention to what he was saying, but knew what he was talking about. "Do you know anything about that?" Vince didn't expect an affirmative answer, but he thought he had to ask.

For a moment, silence.
"Not really. I don't know if it's in your mind or if it's one of your powers, though, so I can't deny it either."
Felix decided not to ask about the person he 'knew' - most likely it would be getting far to involved in someone else's problem.
"Anyway, are you alright now? I need to get to my next class - I'm late enough already."

After hearing that Felix was late, told Felix "You should get going. If you're quick enough, you could just say you were getting your stuff." Vince stood up, and walked slowly towards the door. "Don't worry, I'm alright." Vince was still far from OK, but he didn't want to talk about it anymore. From thinking about his grandmother to thinking that someone was going to do something bad... perhaps kill him... that didn't exactly make him feel better.

Felix was conflicted; did he keep his nose out of Vince's problems, or interfere and possibly save him?
Eventually, he decided on the former.
"Alright. You clear your head, okay?"
Felix walked out of the room. If things got any worse, he'd intervene, but he'd stay away until then.
