"I never had that problem when I was in the Narrow Reality," replied Konpeitō with a hearty laugh. "All my interactions with people were over the internet. It was very easy to hide my identity, and if I made a mistake, I could make a new one." Those days were so much simpler.

"If you don't mind, what was your home like? I assume you mean home in a nostalgic sense. You don't have to answer though. Home can be a tricky subject on this island." And boy did he know about that. Disregarding TWIS, he was both open and closed about his old home.

"Internet was a far fetched dream back when my journey began. Therefore, I had to use pen names as a disguise to who I am. No two countries knows me by the same name.", perhaps Serena would have given anything for the existence of internet back in the day? Nah, not really. Hiding her identity would require more than that.

But what to say of her home? "Back then I lived in Athens, worked with my father in his pawn shop. Simple lives, in a simple village, for a not-so-simple girl!", Kon would hear a giggle from her, "At some point I realized I don't belong among humans. Still tried to, somewhat.", and a bite out of a cookie she took between sips.

Oh, so she was old. The internet was a fact of life to Konpeitō. Since he was born it was an immensely important device for forging relationships, advertising, and collecting information.

After taking a sip from his drink, he nodded. "I can sort of relate to that. I always thought I belonged with humans though. I still do from time to time" He let out a laugh. "Despite having naturally multi-colored hair and cat features, I thought I was as human as anyone else. Just a little, you know, more unique. It sounds silly, but I believed that with humans being so varied and how diverse birth defects could be, my features weren't out of the realm of nature."

"However, somewhere down the line you realized it, didn't you? That you are not as human as you believed to be, or were raised to be. That realization hit me like a truck, once I slowly stopped aging and became perpetually 20, when I first grew out wings and soared the skies with the sun at my back...", Serena didn't sound sad to remember of that quite shocking experience, after all it had been so many years... She had all that time ti cope with it.

But Kon... "For how long have you been living like that?", she took a long sip following the question

Konpeitō forced back a frown. He wasn't sure what was making him uncomfortable, only that something was.

"I lived like that for most of my life. It only really hit me that I wasn't human once I got to the island. After I accepted that my being on the island was real." He chuckled. "For a while, I thought I was having a nightmare or in a coma. I didn't have anything fancy like flight, so being supernatural wasn't as fun. It was more of a hazard" He stopped there. While his tone wasn't bitter, his word choice could be taken as such.

"I meant to ask "how many years", but I should've been more specific shouldn't I?!", Serena gave a good giggle at her silly mistake, but soon she addressed his answer anyways: "Really? I know you are a frequent donor, with high compatibility ratio apparently. That in itself is not all that common. I can see why you would feel it's a hazard... We never know what kind of strange powers we may encounter."

Konpeitō knew perfectly well the answer Serena wanted to hear, yet she pushed on and made things difficult on him. Twenty-five was what he desperately wanted to say, but a Google search could easily show that wasn't the truth. "Five years," he answered brusquely.

Since he was already this far in... "Uh, no, that power came along later. I legitimately came here as... A human with more issues actually isn't too far off. Have you heard about the NEK0s that arrived last year?"

Five years? NEK0? Surely, Serena heard something about them in her life, and felt a little inclined to believe he was one of them. After her sip, Kon would be given the answer: "Heard a little about them being made in labs, used in inhumane ways before coming here... Vague talk about it, to be quite fair. Waitaminute, don't tell me you are one of them?", did she sound slightly surprised?

Konpeitō took a bite of his sandwich to diffuse the increasing awkwardness he was feeling, then nodded his head. "Used to be. I don't think I could be called one of them anymore. I changed a lot. On purpose, mind you. Made a trade with a god for shape-shifting and developed it enough where I could get rid of all the things that made me a NEK0." There was a strong sense of pride in his voice, yet there was also a tinge of sadness. He never felt like he was part of the NEK0s in the first place, but they were the closest he had to his own people.

"I can't blame you for wanting to leave behind that past... However, correct me if I am wrong: it made you lose some sense of belonging to somewhere, didn't it? After all, I imagine that if I eventually developed similar abilities there would be no place for me anymore...", there was a faint hint of fear in Serena's tone.
