Long Awaited

Jude didn't wake Blade. She was clearly tired, and he wanted her to get some sleep. He'd try and convince everyone to let her get into bed in a timely manner, but realistically speaking? That wasn't going to happen. Everyone was going to want to see her. Everyone was going to want to ask how she'd been.

Jude hadn't. A part of him was genuinely afraid of what answer he might get.

Jude had pulled up to the house and parked before he felt like he should wake Blade. Poking her seemed like a bad idea, so he opted to start talking, carefully increasing his volume in the hopes she'd wake.

"Blade? You can wake up now. We're here, and there's a nice comfortable bed inside."

Officer Genovese's house was fairly large. It had been intended to hold a dozen people, but it wasn't terribly ornate. More utilitarian, with a clearly intended purpose: Housing a lot of teenagers. If Jude squinted, he was pretty sure he could see the outline of Officer Genovese not far through the doorways frosted glass, but it was hard to tell so late at night.

At least one light in the kitchen was on though, and Jude glanced over to Blade.

"Not a problem," Jude said. "It was a pretty quiet drive. I'll take you in, you can meet officer Genovese and see whoever else is up. I think Travis is going to be there already. He doesn't live with us--he lives in the dorms--but I told him you were here and he was already up, so he zipped right over."

There were definitely people in the kitchen. Jude could tell from the moment he stepped inside. There was that slight hubub of noise, but only Officer Genovese waiting inside the entrance, looking approvingly down at Blade.

How he felt was very unclear, but he did hold out his hand to Blade, offering it.

"I'm... the other Angelo Genovese. You can call me Angie, or Officer Genovese, or whatever you want to, more or less," he said, with Jude giving a small nod.

"I mostly just go by Jude."

Better to get that out of the way before things got too confusing.

"You don't have any bags to take?" Angelo asked, and Jude cringed just behind Blade.

So, not exactly the most social of people, but Jude had explicitly warned him of that. That Blade could be... odd. Not terribly social. To try not to be offended.

He needn't have warned. Angelo had lived on the island for years. He'd seen people who could barely speak any language at all, and while Blade was a bit awkward, she was nothing that unusual.

"Well, you might as well come in. You can see everyone else, and then get to sleep I think. We can talk when you wake up tomorrow."

Angelo stepped out of the way, ushering her towards the kitchen.

Jude headed for the door the moment there was a knock, not bothering to check who it was before pulling it open. Considering the time? It was Travis. Travis in big-lizard-form as usual, and Jude immediately waved him in.

"Blade's in the kitchen," he said, turning to find her already facing them.

Jude didn't want to think about what she'd been doing in her time away. He had a lot of ideas, and none of them were good.

"You want to stay over tonight, so we can catch up in the morning?" Jude asked Travis, glancing back to Blade. "I figure you can stay here for at least tonight. We'll sort out what's going on in the morning, and... we have a lot to tell you about." Some of which he'd mentioned in passing, but there was also just a lot of it in general... Life on the island was very different.
