"I like any story that's interesting," they responded simply. Seeing the woman sit down, they lowered their body to lay on the ground, then crossed their legs. Sort of. It was hard to tell if their legs were crossed as it all blended together, and at the bottom it transitioned into a formless cloud.

"Whatever interests me interests me. I like making stories more. The world inside of me is filled with stories. The ones I've been inspired by the most are anime." The mouth on their face widened to form a rainbow semi-circle, representing their best attempt at a natural smile. "They're Japanese cartoons and I really like the stories that come from Sailor Moon and Tokyo Mew Mew."

Naisis smiled at the simplicity of Sela's statements since most simple truths are usually the most profound.

She knew about anime but did not recognize Sailor Moon or Tokyo Mew Mew. It was not surprising since the last time she was in Japan was almost a century ago.

She muttered to herself, "someday I should investigate them." She liked scary stories, but not all the time.

Returning the smile (at least that is what she thought it was), she pondered what Sela said before replying, "In a sense, that is what I do. Most dreams are just visual stories. Although, most of mine have a scary slant to them."

She shrugged, "Still, there are those that like those kinds of dreams."

"You should watch them! They're fun." It would be nice to have more people to talk about anime with. There was Roland, the people inside of them, and some students already, but there would never be too many people to talk about interests with.

Though as they thought about Naisiskhrea's words, their expression grew somber. "I don't like scaring anything or anyone. It makes me sad when people are scared of me. It's hard to make friends with creatures I scared."

"I will have to talk to Flutterpip to see if she has seen any. One of her teachers has her watch certain cartoons and animations and write a summary on them - or - that is what she said." She paused and frowns wondering if Flutterpip has been deceiving her. If so, she will be in some serious trouble.

Naisis nodded when Sela mention how hard it was to make friends when they were scared, "So true. Fortunately, I do not do that often. I have been in other dreams playing bit parts. Some were funny." She did not mention the one that was not.

"Oh! Daddy does something like that. He watches TV and plays games with me and asks me to tell him about morals and what I think the characters will do. He said it'll help me learn social cues and develop empathy because I can see the characters from the start of their journey to the end of their journey."

All the talk about scaring people and playing with them made Sela think. "I like Daddy. He doesn't get scared of me and he understands me better than a lot of people here. A lot more than the humans. But he's human too. Sometimes we dream together too."

When Sela talked about a daddy, Naisis wondered who could be her father. But when she said he was a human dad, she was dumbfounded. That was until reason set in. Nasis was beginning to think they meant something like a stepfather.

"Oh like a stepfather one who adopted you? I have one, Avax Set. He helps me when I need it. I was pretty old when he adopted me, so we did not play many games."

She smiles, "It is nice to have someone caring for you."

Sela wasn't sure if they should shake their head or nod. She was right and wrong at the same time. Stuck, Sela stayed still until they were allowed to respond. "I don't know who Avax Set is. Roland Agnes is my dorm parent assigned to me by the school, not my stepfather. I don't need anyone to take care of me, but I'm legally considered a minor... I still like him."

It was hard for Sela to be angry at Roland. In a weird twist, he was one of the few people who understood couldn't be treated as any particular age or species. He treated them as themself.

Naisis gave a wry smile, "I am not surprised, there are those that live in the Subliminal, my homeworld, that do not know who he is, and he is the Prime minister of the Subliminal."

Her smile took on a more whistful look, "Ah a friend. It is nice to have a friend in a new and strange place. It takes the edge of the newness and strangeness. I hope you make other friends."

Something that was hard for her to do.

"That sounds dangerous. Not knowing who your leader is. Sometimes my people won't know who I am and do something that angers me.... But sometimes it's fun. To stay hidden. To watch. It gives good stories." A smile spread across their face.

Forcing themself back to the topic of conversation, their smile became smaller. "I don't want more friends. I do and I don't. It will make leaving this place harder. It will make disappointing them harder." So why hadn't they left already? They thought this to themself repeatedly, and frustrated by the lack of answer, their body shifted to become smaller, their height and shape like a toddler.

"I want to go home now," they said in an cacophony of childish voices.

Naisis ponders Sela's remark, "He is not so much a leader but the protector of the Subliminal. I have never seen him angry - sad - but never angry."

Not wanting friends surprised her, but as Sela explained it, it made sense. It wasn't easy leaving friends.

Their desire to go home struck a deep chord in Naisis. Closing her eyes with a sigh, "so do I."

Getting up, she smiled at the child Sela, "I enjoyed our conversation, and I am sorry if I caused any sadness. I hope we can share a story some time."

She paused and added, "I hope you find happiness."

She turned and was engulfed in that silver-gray fog. Out of it came her mare form as she headed out to graze, deep in thought.
