Ganymede nodded. He didn't know much about Elijah's situation, but it sounded very different from his own.

"She sounds like she was gentle with you. I'm glad for that."

He took a moment to gather his thoughts about the job issue. "There's nothing wrong with trying to do some of what you were made for. But if you look, you might find something else you want to do even more than that. It would be a wasted opportunity not to explore, at least."

Elijah nodded at the comment of Lizbeth being kind to him. She had been. Her father would burst through her door in a rage, looking to take it out on Eli, and she wouldn't let him.
"That.... that makes sense. I do have a chance here I never thought I would. And it might not be exactly what I was made for, but if I'm helping people in other ways, even if it's not my job, that counts right?"
His brow furrowed again. Maybe his happy go lucky attitude and personality rubbed off on even his teachers and made things seems rather straight forward. But they weren't.
"Do you know what you wanna do? Like...after school or whatever?"

"Not yet," Ganymede admitted. "I have some ideas, though! I could become a professional pianist, or I could study history or linguistics for a living. I might even be able to make money off of the magic I've learned." He shrugged. "But I don't have to make a decision for a few years, and I think the years I've already spent here unemployed have been spent well."

He gave Elijah a reassuring smile.

Elijah's eyes widened and his smile grew a little. He loved hearing other people talk about themselves and what they enjoyed, especially when they got excited about it, but even Eli found himself getting excited.
"You play piano? Oh that's so cool! Man it seems like you have plenty of options and ideas. I'm not jealous that you'll have to narrow that down."
First instinct was for him to slide back in close, but it was then he remembered that personal space was a thing and fought off that urge as his eyebrows raised a couple times before settling back into place with a smile.

Ganymede's smile widened. He had casually mentioned his ability to use magic, and yet Elijah was amazed by Ganymede's musical pursuits. Elijah had impeccable taste. Ganymede decided he may have to invite him to a recital sometime.

"I've been playing for most of my life, in fact. Before I came here, I was actually tutored by an old vampire who claimed to have been a student of Chopin himself back in his day. He might not even have lied to us all about that." He held back a chuckle - it was an old joke he and his late master used to share.

He started to wax poetic about the music of Chopin and his contemporaries, how it was his favorite to play, and even a few historical details about the historical moment in the early 1800s, when that music had been written. But he stopped himself before going on too much of a lecture. Most people, he had to remind himself, were not as excited as he was about long-dead white men and their music.

"... but I ramble, and I've barely heard anything about you. If I can ask - what were you considering doing for work?" Elijah had mentioned something about finding work similar to what he had done before he came here.

Eli listened very intently to Ganymede talk about his tutor, Chopin, and the history of the era. Each high point met with a smile, and each important detail with a nod. This was one of the things Elijah loved the most, listening to what excited others and hearing them talk about it.
"Oh I don't mind. I find it fascinating the creative mind to be able to take Mozart and Beethoven, weave them together, but have something still entirely unique!"
Eli twisted his lips in thought a bit before smiling back to Gany. He had a couple ideas in mind, but he had yet to actually pursue them.
"Well, I was talking to some people at the Grey Raven and they mentioned I might look into the Bordello. I'm a cuddler and I comfort by design, and I enjoy that. I figured it wouldn't be bad to help a few people along the way too that just might need the attention."

Ganymede listened to Elijah and nodded. Even if Lizbeth herself didn't hurt him, it sounded like her parents were a different story altogether. Those were the ones who had probably purchased him in the first place. Elijah's true owners.

Gany fiddled with the age-shifting charm he was wearing on a bracelet. He was starting to second-guess himself already - this was starting to feel like a lot for a first conversation. But after a moment's hesitation, he decided to say this much more: "If she loved you, she would have wanted you to be happy."

He looked Elijah in the eyes. Then, entirely on accident, he fumbled with the charm on his wrist in just the wrong way and accidentally deactivated it. The transformation took effect almost instantly.

Now Ganymede looked like an 11-year-old, as he usually did. He looked down at the bracelet again, perplexed. "Oh. Um..." he had to look up to make eye contact with Elijah again. "This is the 'natural form' I mentioned earlier." He smiled, slightly embarrassed. It was probably harder for others to take him seriously like this.

Elijah smiled at the comment about Lizbeth wanting him to be happy. He told himself and hoped it was true, but to hear it from someone else felt good, even if it was a sad memory.
He was about to say something when suddenly Gany began to change. Eli wasn't certain what specifically happened, but even he looked down at the bracelet, he put the pieces together.
"Oh that's what you meant. A shape change charm? I learned about those."
It honestly peaked his interest a little. He had never considered anyone would get once for any reason besides being able to interact with the world easier. But even that potentially fit with why Ganymede might have one.
"How is it? Like, what's it like?"
It was obvious Eli didn't look at him any different. He would be a fool to think that way with how much more experience Gany had with everything.

At least this was proving to be an excellent segway into lighter topics.

"I've appreciated it. People take me more seriously when it's on, and the extra height is useful sometimes. The only downside is that I don't feel comfortable playing piano in my new form yet. And, well... sometimes I actually kind of want to be small and cute. So it's nice that I can just take it off, when it suits me."

All in all having it was a pretty big improvement for him, socially amd emotionally. Just like his therapist had argued in that recommendation letter.

"I actually got the idea to get one of these from a former minister of the island. His body is actually frozen in an age not too far off from mine, because he was turned into a vampire as a boy. He has a charm like this. Except it makes him look like he's in his twenties or thirties instead of his teens, of course."

Eli couldn't help but smile. His bubbly personality coming out more as they talked about the pros and cons of the charm Gany had. It was an interesting thought that had many uses one way or the other.
"I bet that can get handy. Especially being able to choose. When you want a more serious or defined look you can put it on but still being able to enjoy and be your natural self whenever you want."
Eli remembered reading about these minister Gany referred to. He also seemed to recall how he would use it to his advantage to catch people off guard.
"Oh I bet it was almost a must for him."
