She looked up at the sky with worry. It looked like it was going to rain. If it rained… Oh dear. She didn’t think she could deal with the embarrassment of her white shirt getting soaked and her make up running, especially on the first day. The butterflies in her stomach swirled. Oh god, she thought. What if my mentor is a cute guy. She took a deep breath, letting the smell of freshly mowed lawn soothe her for a moment and ceased her pacing. She spotted a iron bench sitting under an oak tree, still within view of the exit of the school. At least that would shield her a little bit… She sighed deeply and whined. It was getting a little cold and her extremities were beginning to pinken in response.

How would her mentor know who she was? Oh right, she was the only one in the courtyard that wasn’t with anyone. Why did she need a stupid mentor anyway? What if they were mean? Or, dear god, ugly? She shifted around in her seat, wiggling her butt around and doing a little nervous dance. Get it together Cassandra, she thought patting her cheeks in an attempt to bring herself back to reality. The wind blew suddenly, messing up her hair and taking her mind off of the situation. She struggled to get the coarse black strands to lay flat once more, fiddling with the ribbon that held the front piece of her hair for a good long while. What was taking so long… Maybe she shouldn’t have arrived so early… But it’s not like she had anything else to do. She wondered what time it was, oh how she missed her fancy smartphone.

It was strange how silent it was today. Just the rustle of the first of stale leaves, still clinging to the trees could be heard, and some far off conversation from a group quite a ways away. She scanned the horizon. No sign of the mystery person. Oh why couldn’t she just go home. She felt the jitters creeping up again and she shifted around in her seat. She was so sure that this person would hate her now, that they would be mean and pull pranks on her. Oh god, what if they were more of a freak than she was?! She let out a small groan before folding her hands in her lap and crossing her legs at the ankle. She looked like a rather pathetic lost little girl in her silly little school girl uniform. She looked down her legs and began to count the wrinkles in her knee-high socks, then the specks of dirt on her shiny black shoes. With her head hung down and her hands folded she couldn’t look any more helpless. She began to wonder if they would ever come at all, even though there was still a bit of time before they were expected to arrive.

Originally, he had planned to show up early, but when he saw the weather, he thought it might be a good idea to buy an umbrella at the convenience store. While there, he decided to pick up two.

He had volunteered to be a student mentor, even though he was still quite new here. Being a student mentor meant more than just showing people what classroom was on what floor. Abel was an outgoing, polite young man, and this was a good way to give back to the community... without putting on a mask and jumping from roof top to roof top.

It just made sense to join the student mentor program. Despite the program being more than just showing people what classroom was on what floor, today Abel was to meet the new student he was assigned to and show her around the campus. So she'd know what classroom was on what floor. It was simple enough, and Abel was thankful for that much, since he had never done this before. Though, he did welcome a new student to the school already.

He was a bit surprised with how young the student he was assigned to was. Her file said she was fourteen, and a high school student. He was already in college, but considering that the huge school combined elementary through college level classes in one building, it kinda made sense.

Finally, he arrived, with a few minutes to spare. He was a bit surprised again to see the young girl who matched the photo he was given. He didn't judge her on her appearance, though he did note that she looked a bit nervous. It was his job to make her feel comfortable, so he ought to start that.

He approached her with his usual confidant stride. Beauty was in the eye of the beholder, but by the average standards, Abel was quite handsome. His powers involved creating physical force, but worked better when adding onto natural physical force. For this reason, he trained his body to be able to create that force. Encase, he'd need it. Despite that, he hid his toned physique under loose fitting clothing.

He wore a simple white dress shirt, and black slacks. Boring by anyone's standards. He wore a gentle smile, though and waved as he got closer.

"Good afternoon, you're Cassandra, aren't you?" he started, though he was sure it was her.

"My name is Abel Ausama, and I'm your Student Mentor," he introduced himself without waiting for a reply.

"Welcome to the Starlight Academy," he added after just a slight pause. He hadn't practiced what he was going to say. He just let it all flow naturally from his good intentions. He really hoped she would feel at home here. Everyone deserved a place to call their own, even people with odd abilities. He'd do what he could to make sure she feels comfortable, but would it all go as smoothly as he hoped?

She was so fixated on her anxiety and shoes that she barely had time to look up and notice the gentleman before he spoke. As soon as she laid her eyes on him, her eyes widened and she grinned, showing her absolute best feature to him right off the bat. She gracefully stood and folded her arms behind her, giving him an innocent look. Prince Charming, she thought right away. A charming smile, dark skin with lovely bright eyes. Oh his eyes were so lovely! She felt no shame as she gazed into them intensely. He asked if she was who she was, and there was an obvious delay in response due to her being star-struck. Just as she went to squeak out a response, he continued. She snapped her mouth shut and turned a little red at the fact that she had almost interrupted him.

Abel Ausama… she wondered how to spell that so she could write in the corner of her note books later. She gave a cute little curtsy in response but said nothing in fear of interrupting him. Oh she was the happiest girl in the world. She was so happy to find that the students here weren’t all delinquents and losers. Oh she was so happy she could scream. She wondered how long he would have to hang out with her, she wondered if she had a shot at impressing him. Older. Hot. Gentlemanly. What more could she possibly ask for? And here he was welcoming here. But wait. What was his ability? What if he was a freak? Suddenly fear ran through her body. WHAT IF HE CAN READ MY MIND?! She quickly ceased her thoughts and became visibly nervous.

“I-it’s nice to meet you Abel!” she choked out shrilly. She went to enamored to fearful rather quickly. She wanted to ask what his power was but there was NO WAY she could. Don’t ask her why she just COULDN’T! He was so… pretty[\i]. “I-uh…” she smiled sheepishly “So! What exactly is this mentoring thing about?” He giggled and batted her eyelashes, playing off her nervousness the best she could. Even with her fear, she was so, so immensely glad he wasn’t some mean ugly chick. As long as it didn’t rain, all would be well.

On that note, it began to rain. Abel was about to answer her question when he felt the distinct touch of a rain drop landing on his person. It clearly interrupted his train of thought, and broke his gaze, which had been fixated on Cassandra's eyes until then.

He looked up, but didn't really question it. A light drizzle, but it'd start pouring soon.

"Oh well... I'm new at this, so please forgive me if I don't meet your expectations," he said looking back to her, shaking off the minor distraction of the weather, he continued with his welcome.

"But, it's pretty straight forward," he said as he opened one of the umbrellas he was holding. He held it over her, and offered it for her to take.

"I'm here to make sure you feel welcome. Today, I should show you around campus a little. We should especially make sure you know where your classes are," he explained.

"It looks like its gonna rain, so lets head inside?" he added, gesturing to the main building that made up the academy.

A drop, then two, then three and four more. Her stomach sank. Her new companion said something or another, but she wasn’t paying attention. She was looking for the nearest way out. She too a few steps back further under the tree, fearful brown eyes scanning the field as the other students groaned and packed up their belongings to head inside. She looked back at Abel, noticing he had an umbrella out for her. She tried not to lunge for it, snapping it up to stand under it. Phew. Crisis adverted.

My hero, she thought with great enthusiasm. This guy was so nice and thoughtful. All previous thoughts forgotten, she began to make lovey-dovey eyes at him again. So he’s supposed to make me feel welcome huh? “Oh that makes sense!” She chirped happily, smiling widely. She skipped to his side, looking up at him innocently through her lashes. “Of course! Lead the way!” She had to restrain herself from grabbing onto his arm, thinking that it would probably be too much. Too bad he brought two umbrellas instead of just one.

She skipped along side him as they began their adventure, her courage returning. “So everyone here has like super powers right?” she sounded inquisitive and innocent, but he true question came next. “So what is your super power? Is this like a super hero school like in that one movie?” she giggled “that’d be like, super weird.” she tilted the umbrella against her shoulder, spinning it ever so slightly, head tilted and looking as coy and sweet as she could possibly manage.

As soon as she took her umbrella, he opened the second one for himself. He began walking towards the school at a leisurely pace, so she managed to skip ahead of him a little.

"Eh heh, I wouldn't use the term 'super powers'... but yes, most if not all, of the students here have certain abilities that make them unique and special," he tried to choose his words carefully, but he was making it all up on the spot. Still, he thought he did a pretty good job. It all came from a good place in his heart, with good intentions, so how could it turn out bad?

"As for me, I'm listed as a low level magic user," he explained.

"I don't really have any cool powers, but it's just enough to get some odd looks from the superstitious, which is why this place is a good fit for me," he went on. It was his cover story, the truth is he wanted to keep his real abilities a secret.

"How about you? Do you have an interesting abilities?" he shifted the subject to her quite naturally. As got closer to the door, he stepped ahead of her. He held it open for her to pass as he waited to hear her response to his question.

Oh he was so calm and collected! His words were so measured and rolled out so smoothly. Her heart fluttered. Unique and special? More like freaks, she inwardly scoffed. Not HER or HIM of course, just everyone else. She said nothing, just listened to him. Her eyes twinkled as he went on to explain his magical abilities. “Oh my! I’ve never seen any magic before, I mean… REAL magic” she batted her eye lashes up at the tall man “That’s so cool! I’d like to see it sometime, I bet you’re just being humble”

She giggled, but got quiet and obviously quite uncomfortable as he inquired about her own powers. “It’s kinda gross” She said this in a sort of way that not only brought up many questions on why it was gross, but it was clear that she was suddenly distancing herself from the conversation. She stepped through the door, bumping the door frame. Imminently she felt out of place and embarrassed once more, casting her eyes downward as her cheeks burned again. She sighed. “I dunno, I think it’s pretty nasty, you don’t want to see.” She tried to force a laugh and looked up at him with a slightly pained smile before clearing her throat and looking back and forth down the hallway they had stepped into. “So where to?”

It was ironic that the one who hid his powers was now tasked with helping someone become proud of theirs. It was a difficult subject. He stepped into the school after her, folding up the umbrella.

"I see... well this is the main entrance, encase you didn't guess... The first floor has the Administrative Wing, which I'm sure you've been to before," He made some small talk, handled some light business to lighten the mood. Of course, she had to go to the Administrative Wing to register as a new student before she could be assigned to him as a new student.

"There's also the male and female dorms, a few lounges, the cafeteria, the infirmary, the ball room, and some specialty classrooms," he explained.

"...and that's just on the first floor," he added with a smile as he walked down the hallway at a leisurely pace. He took a slight pause before continuing.

"I'd be happy to show you my magic sometime, but it isn't anything to get your hopes up about," he started.

"I know that having unique powers can sometimes make things difficult and even dangerous for you, but this place is different. There's no judgements here. No matter what your power is, I'd never think it was gross. I hope you'd show it to me sometime," he said turning back to her with an honest smile.

On the other hand, Abel planned to one day take his powers back into the outside world, where he could possibly be in huge danger for being a 'freak'. He'd like very much not to have his powers attached to his name at that time.

She daydreamed of a handsome servant showing her around her new royal quarters... A forbidden romance... Oh my! She turned redder than she had ever managed. and had to stifle a giggle. She looked up at him, watching his gestures as movements politely, trying to hide the grin that was working its way onto her face. Oh he was so cute! "Uh-huh" she'd chirp politely every now and then, batting her eye lashes at him.

At the end of the summary of the first floor she blinked, speaking in a surprised manner. "Wow this place is pretty huge huh?"

"You will? Oh that's be so cool. No really though, my power is super creepy." she was clearly becoming more conformable around him the more he talked. "I can take out my eyes and take my hands off and stuff." She secretly was learning how to make her hands walk like in that one show... What was it again? It was super weird and creepy so she never really watched it. But she figured it'd be pretty cool if could put her eye on her hand somehow... Then she could see anything any time she wanted without anyone knowing! But the thought of it made her sick to her stomach. It was just so gross and weird. But Abel seemed like a really accepting guy so she was super sure he'd think it was cool!

Still, she couldnt bring herself to show him. Mentioning it was more than enough. As he went on she felt her heart swell! He really was such a Prince Charming! "M-maybe I will show you sometime then.." She look away, smiling uncontrollably. It was nice to hear, especially from him.

Abel didn't much noticed what should have been quite telling sings. He would never consider someone so young as a romantic prospect, and the idea that she might consider him an 'older' guy type went over his head. He just figured that these were the mannerisms that young girls had and didn't think twice about why she'd be acting this way.

"Hmm, that certainly is an interesting ability," he said in a genuinely positive manner. His mind instantly began to wander into the various practical applications of such a power and what different tactics could be pulled of with it. He wondered if that meant she was immune to physical damage. Could someone with a detachable head really be beheaded? Was it only joints? He had to stop himself. This wasn't a potential ally, it was his new junior student.

"Ah, I bet you could do some really interesting stuff with a power like that," he said with a bit of jealousy in his voice.

"I hope you do show me sometime," he opened the one of the doors they were about to walk past and gestured for her to move inside.

"Would you like something to nibble on? My treat," It was clearly the cafeteria, and so instead of announcing the obvious he skipped right to asking if she were hungry.
