Nico sat quietly on the roof of some building that overlooked the city.

It was actually a nice spot given the fact one could see the city to the ocean from up here along with the currently setting sun. The boy would just sit there and silently watch the as the sun made its slow descent down causing the sky to get ever so darker with a tint of orange. Yes it was nice but Nico wasn't even giving it as much attention as he seemed to be because was instead lost in thought.

He wasn't on this roof because he wanted to watch the sunset, Nico was here for other reasons. It has been about four hours since he came up here and for four hours he just sat here looking at the city and being lost in thought.

The things that swirled around in his head weren't really pleasant thoughts. In fact they weren't even his? The voice that spoke was never really his own. He shook his head a few times and just groaned when things finally got silent.

Four hours ago he had sent Shay a message to meet him here at this time. He simply did this so he could have time to prepare himself for whatever worst case scenario that plagued his mind. There were several times when he almost left, several times he found himself halfway down the stairway that led up to the roof only to convince himself to return back up. These actions were all simply out of fear for what was to come despite not knowing what will happen.

Nico let out a sigh as he checked the time. “The point of no return…..should have left earlier.” he mumbled before laying flat on his back and closing his eyes.

Shay climbed to the top of the building. He had opted for the boy charm today because it was one of those days. The days where he could barely look at himself in the mirror when he was a girl. One of the days where tears came too easily and bugs crawled right under the top layer of his skin. But all of that was lessened in this form.

His mind wandered to Nico and why his friend had sent a rather cryptic message asking him here at this time. Shay arrived about five minutes early due to unrelenting anxiety that had settled in his stomach.

When he reached the top of the building and saw Nico lying on his back with his eyes closed, Shay paused and watched his friend for a good minute before calling to him softly.

"Nico? What's up? Is something wrong?"

The silence was super nice like it was really really nice. Nico was just laying there in his own little world and just absentmindedly tapped on his phone.

The tapping continued for a bit as he was just contemplating on whether or not to tell Shay not to come. Well he was going to do it but he also just felt like laying there and didn’t want to open his eyes at the moment. Deep down Nico is just a lazy cat who just wanted to do nothing.

It didn't even matter if he felt like sending the message because at this moment it was definitely too late to do that. He had caught whiff of a familiar scent, which he assumed was Shay. Nico barely made an attempt to sit up or anything so he continued to lay there and just sorta waved his hand. It wasn't really a wave, he just sorta lifted it up a bit then let it fall back down. It just looked like some random hand gest- LOOK HE JUST WAVED. A very...lazy...wave.

“You came early….just when I was going to tell you nevermind.” He mumbled that unintentionally, he was going to say it but yeah just a bunch of mumbling.

It took him a few minutes to full sit up, yeah he wasn't going to attempt to stand since that will probably make him dizzy.

Nico squinted at Shay a bit with some confusion going on all over his face. Yeah he just totally forgot about the charm thing. “Is something wrong? Uh….” just a simple shrug for his response. “Not at the moment I think…” Well there could be something wrong for example this could just totally be another mind trick or some trippy dream.

“The sky isn't a mess of colors and everything doesn't seem to be filtered with purple nor is the world ending. So yeah, I'm just peachy.”

That was... strange to say the least. Not the answer Shay had been expecting. Something was so clearly wrong, and it hurt to think it had taken Nico this long to want to talk about it. Sure, Shay had been busy as of late, but she'd have made time for her friends. Did Nico not think they were friends anymore?

Nico appeared hesitant (dare Shay say, even scared) to speak with her and all Shay could think was something must have gone world-bendingly wrong for this to be the case.

Biting her lower lip a little, Shay went and sat beside him, glancing at him but trying to keep most of her focus on the sky. "Okay. So what did you want to talk about?" Or more accurately not talk about, as it seemed to Shay that Nico would have loved for her just not to have turned up.

"Maybe if I know what's up I can help you?"

"Fucking hell...."

It was that stupid rabbit again. The one that sorta taunts Nico with random nonsense and likes wearing shades. Well this little rabbit wasn't even real, probably, maybe. Nico wasn't sure at this point since there are a lot of facts he could make how the rabbit is just a figment of his imagination but there were some very unexplainable facts that could make Shades the rabbit a real thing.

Either way, it was just here chilling on the edge of the roof like it was nothing.

Nico would occasionally glance over to it and back between the clouds which weren't a good distraction now. "Nothing nothing.....uh...so..."

"I have no clue what's going on and even if I did..." Nico looked over to where Shades the rabbit should be and frowned. "Not sure....I don't think you can help." Nico wanted to throwing something at that stupid rabbit but he had no throwable object on him...except his phone. He is going to throw his phone.

Shay felt a flush of frustration take him over. Something was obviously bothering Nico, and by the way, he was glancing to some empty spot next to him, Shay figured either he saw something, or he was planning something. Either way, it didn't bode well.

Shay closed the distance between them and knelt down, breathing in and out slowly, hands shaking a little. "Nico, look at me. Do you trust me? What if I told you that you didn't have to explain it to me in words? What if I told you I could see what you saw and experience it, too? Would you trust me to do that? Trust me explicitly?

"I can help you, but only if you let me in."

Nico suddenly jumped up to his feet and scoffed. “Trust you? TRUST YOU??” he was really going to maintain this distance.

Meanwhile the pimp of rabbits was laughing his ass off in the background. “Sorry no. I can't even trust myself anymore. In fact all of this is probably some stupid dream and I could just jump off this roof and wake up in my room. Like always.”

“I don't trust you. I’m not sure if you are even real.”

Nico clenched his fist and turned around to punt nothing and repeatedly stomp on well nothing. “AND YOU STOP LAUGHING. JUST FUCK OFF ALREADY.” He stopped after a good long while of stomping. Nico was just now out of breath and tired so he was just going to flop back on the ground and curl up.

“This is stupid. Everything is stupid….fine. Want to be let in? Sure go ahead. I don't care. Besides even if you could see what I saw….it's not the same..”

That stung, of fucking course, that her friend couldn't trust her. Typically, Shay might have tried a gentler approach but seeing as Nico was talking about jumping off rooves and all...

Shay stood up. "Are you fucking insane, Nico?" She approached him and went to take hold of his shirt by the collar, while her other hand grabbed his shoulder. She aimed to give him no time to think. No time to jump off the roof as he had said.

"I'm real," Shay deadpanned, "and if I'm not you've got nothing to lose. Unfortunately, this little trick doesn't work unless you let me, and yes..." she bit her lip, "trust me it'll be the same. It's going to be intense so pull yourself up by the bootstrap son."

Once Nico had fallen on his back, Shay crouched again, over him this time and held his face with both her hands, closing her eyes and trying to imagine the energy of her magic. Tried to flow it into Nico. She thought about the memories and feelings she wanted to share with him, thought about them as clearly as she could. Something good, this time.

Nico would feel it all as if it were his own. Warmth, love, and family. Safety and stability where there had never been any. The freedom and the wind of jumping from roof to roof, as Shay practiced her parkour. The way her heart beat in her fingertips with the mere taste of it, so intense it overtook her body and had her ready to scream out in giddy, childish enjoyment that she hadn't felt since childhood.

Flashes of dancing in the rain without a care of who saw or who judged. Arms spread out wide and head thrown back, tears lost to the water of the storm and laughter clashing with distant thunder. Shay was cold to the bone from the rain, but it was freedom. The rain was wings, and they flew her far away from the orphanage and bullies and predators.
