Shay grinned. She knew this voice. She knew this accent, in an odd way she wasn't even surprised by the name. Shay laughed and smiled enough to show teeth. "Don't worry; no one is ever gonna hit him upside the head again. I've got a mean swing with a frying pan."

And the thought of hitting Mr. Wright with a frying pan sounded nice to Shay, but just as quickly as it was there, she felt sick at it, remember what Fitz had told her about anger and hatred. It consumed a person and Shay didn't want to be consumed.

"Thanks for the drinks," she told Eurig, but she didn't return to the table immediately. She made small talk and took about five minutes between them to say goodbye. Man, people didn't lie about the Irish and long goodbyes.

When Shay returned to the table, setting the beer in front fo Fitz and sliding in beside him to snuggle against his side and nurse her bottle, Shay asked, "and what nefarious things are you up to over here?"

"If you're working right now I'm going to do terrible things to you later."

Fitz took his own beer in one hand and wrapped his other one around Shay to pull her close to him in the booth. "Wot. A'm offended. Lass, A've ne'er worked a day in me life." He drank the beer, relishing the bitterness and the slightly sweet aftertaste.

"So A take it ye 'ad a good talk wi' ol' Eurig? 'e's a roigh' cunt, tha'un bu' e's saved me arse more times'n A can count." [[So I take it you had a good talk with old Eurig? He's a right cunt, that one but he's saved my ass more times than I can count.]]

"Oh yeah, he told me all the times you were hit in the head and how that affected your ability to be a well-rounded boy." Shay took a drink of the beer and a moment to process the taste. She wasn't a fan of beer, but this one wasn't so bad. It wasn't as bitter as she was used to.

"Drat, I guess you'll be the house husband, and I'll have to drop out of school and get a job then," she said with a grin that slowly melted away to something more somber. "Actually, speaking of that, I have been considering careers lately, what with us officially being married and all."

Shay set her beer on the table with a bit of a sigh and leaned back into the plush booth to look at the ceiling. She liked this place. Too bad she couldn't come here on weekends. "I want... to do something important. I want to make Angelo and my family proud, y'know?"

"Careers, eh?" Fitz set his beer down, rotating the bottle slowly so that it made a soft, unintrusive scraping sound against the wood. "Well far be it fer me t' stop ye shootin' fer yer dreams, aye?" {Well far be it for me to stop you from shooting for your dreams, yeah?}

Under the surface, there was a bit of tension. She wanted to make Angelo proud? Do important work? He thought about Terry and the others, how they had reacted when he told them the original plan had changed. "So wotcher thinkin' 'about doin'?" {So what are you thinking about doing?}

"Christ, I don't know," Shay said as she rubbed the back of her head. She pushed her beer away with a sigh, crestfallen. She laughed without humor. "I mean I can't be a cop, like Roa. Can't work for the veil," she said lower. She was quiet for awhile.

"Guess I just keep going to school, and when you get your business set up, I can do something with Hereafter... in a more corporate sense.

"That'd be nice, aye," Fitz said with a nod. "Like wot though? Payin' Reapers fer doin' wot they already do? Jes' bein' a non-profit fer th' misun'erstood?" {Like what though, Paying reapers for doing what they already do? Just being a non-profit for the misunderstood?}

Fitz hugged Shay tight from the side. "Wote'er ye do, A'll be be'ind ye one 'undred percent, aye? And A'll keep me shite t' meself so A dinnae ruin yer 'ard work." {Whatever you do, I'll be behind you one hundred percent. And I'll keep my shit to myself so I don't ruin your hard work.} He finished his beer and set the bottle down, letting his stomach settle for a bit before he suggested they get up and leave. "Go' more A wanna show ye," he said with a smile.

After saying goodbye to Eurig, the two of them headed further into town. It was late, for sure, but Fitz took her to the playground a couple of his foster families had taken him to. He pointed out that a lot of the old, dangerous equipment had been removed or replaced. Mostly the former. Just lots of open space now.

"Something like that," Shay said thoughtfully. "Like making reaping a government job rather than throwing everyone into the air and hoping they get things done right."

Shay nestled into Fitz's hug, breathing in his scent and trying not to feel so lost. She was on her honeymoon in a place so completely devoid of magic all it was to her was magic (an oxymoron for sure).

"So long as you remember I'm here for you too," she grinned at him a little. "I know I don't always seem as competent as you, but I wouldn't be with you if I couldn't handle all this. I'd be a hell of a lot more terrified if I didn't know what was going on in your life."

Shay was happy to let Fitz lead her off after she had exchanged contact information with Eurig. It might have been weird, but being in contact with the old hat, with the Genevese Don, it was therapeutic to Shay. Suddenly, she was allowed to be fully a part of someone else's life (beyond Theo's).

When the two got to the playground Fitz used to visit as a child Shay made him dance with her in the middle of the open field, arms open to the clear night sky and howls of laughter filling the silence.

When they were both finally out of breath, lying wrapped up in each other and pointing out stars, Shay shared stories with Fitz about her childhood too. The comforting solitude of the library and Theo's presence, before they'd known each other. How Simon how created shadow puppets to tell the two silent stories when night fell and they were scared.

Fitz listened intently as Shay talked, shared stories about her life. He interjected every once in a while, offering a joke or bit of commentary. Afterward, he shared his own stories. The time with his second family, when he and his foster brother stole their dad's car and immediately backed it into a pole by accident. How he used to love when a family would take him camping, or if they had a caravan how he'd sleep in there whenever he could. Of the countless fights he got in as a kid because he was a 'fuckin' Pikey.'

Kind of sitting up on his elbows, Fitz looked up at the sky. "A dinnae ken where me mum and da are now. Ne'er bothered tryin' t' find 'em after Eurig took me in. No' tha' A really could. Pikeys move 'roun' too much."

[I don't know where my mom and dad are now. Never bothered looking for them after Eurig took me in. Not that I really could. Pikeys move around too much."

Shay listened to Fitz's stories, head on his chest and feeling the vibrations of his words at his throat. It was soothing, lulling her into near sleep.

When Fitz sat up, Shay moved with him, snapping herself awake again. She rubbed at her eyes, groggy but still comprehending what he was saying. She frowned.

"If you could, would you find them? Meet up with them again?"

Shay watched his face for any change in expression. In the dark, that wasn't easy, but she knew Fitz by feeling along. Understood how his emotions worked even as he sat beside her, face darkened over by his hat and the lack of light.

Fitz thought about that question for a good, long while. It was one he had kicked around his head a lot when he was younger. A lot a lot before Eurig had found him. Finally, he shook his head.

"Nah. I figure... we're well past the point where that matters. Wherever they are, I'm sure they're happy with each other. I don't need to go sullyin' that by coming back from the dead."

Fitz gave a small, tight smile. Not sad, exactly, but resigned. "'Sides, I got me own family to take care of now," he said as he leaned forward to give Shay a kiss.

"C'mon then. Whatcha say we go find some trouble t'get ourselves into?"
