Kids shouted and ran around the playground without acknowledging anyone outside of their group. Two kids could be sat beside each other and only focus on their own activities. From Sela's perspective, that only made things difficult. They had been here since November, yet they still couldn't get used to the chaos of the playground. It was hard to tell who was playing with who and what groups were open for another member. Beside that, Sela also didn't fit in. They weren't a child. Not really. They weren't an adult either. Or a teenager. Or an animal. Even calling them a person was a stretch. But behind them was their minder giving them an encouraging smile to go out and make friends. To see which age group they fit best with.
Ten minutes had passed since they arrived at the playground, and not once had they tried to approach anyone. Not yet. Fortunately, their minder was perfectly content to watch them survey the scene. They claimed they liked to be a little more hands-off, only coming over if Sela really needed help. Fitting for someone who acknowledged that they weren't a helpless child. Still, they had spent enough time staring at children from their lonely corner of the playground. They floated slowly, searching for something or someone that would catch their eye.
