Lazy are the rules of his world

Sifa had a personal brand of laziness that he had exhibited at almost all times. This laziness was about as integral to him as a sense of humor to a human and he had exhibited it ever since birth. Everything he did for 143 years had been tinged with the laziness of his actions, and as a result when his siblings at times didn't comprehend that he was not interested or willing, for the most part, to actually do anything of substance. This morning was no exception, as he sat down at the dining table to talk to Fweiu about his earlier interactions with her in the M3C.

Ever since he came to the islands, there were a few things that actually got under his skin. The first and foremost, he would never have on his own accord gone halfway across the world in order to do anything, much less do a job for a clan. He was the clan's social loafer, and was almost proud of it. The idea that his sister perpetuated that he should be doing a job, however small slightly infuriated him internally. He was not, in his opinion, cut out for working even though it literally was him sitting on a couch and watching TV or doing other things integrated with the pop culture of the world.

The second reason was tied into the first in that he heavily disliked having to keep up a human form while inside a building on the island. While he was by no means discomforted by the form itself, the periodic headaches and his weak body type made him quite annoyed, though the form did lend itself to being able to sleep in smaller areas. Sleeping while in this form however was a pain in itself in his opinion and he would have preferred to just fall asleep in his natural form.

The third and final reason was quite personal as he was forced to come with her in the middle of courting a being in the village which would probably have him lose the "large" amount of time and energy he had invested to it. He may have told himself that he had expended a large amount of energy on the female, but to those around him that had seen the courting attempts, it was known to be a laughably small effort.

So when he saw his sister walk into the room, he was already not in the best of moods, but he, like always, kept the most neutral face possible.

"So Fweiu, you wanted to talk?"

"Yes."

Fweiu leaned against the kitchen counter next to the dinner table. She looked down at Sifa for a good ten seconds without saying anything.

"You are here with me representing our people. Yet I find you laying on the ground, saying things to rile up the locals. And you go on to disrespect me in front of them."

The others at home talked. They said she was too lenient with him, allowing him to be a leech. And she did have a soft spot for him - he was her brother, after all. She kept giving him simple things to do, some small way to contribute to the welfare of their clan, to retain his honor without putting forth too much effort. When he dropped the ball, she kept giving him second chances. And the others would talk. She was coddling him.

"What have I done to deserve this? Why of all times would you pick now to behave like this?"

In her mind, she had done a lot for him. She was giving him the cushiest job imaginable - doing the sorts of things lazy humans did for recreation, these days.

The look in Sifa's eyes changed slightly from the usual bored or tired look to something slightly tinged with annoyance or anger. This change probably would be imperceptible to most as many wouldn't know what to look for, but those who know him on a more close nature could probably see the difference.

The fact that she went for the proverbial "brass ring" straight off of the bat annoyed him a bit. The idea that she seemed to be annoyed at him and seemed to be angry at the fact that he had disrespected her, yet she didn't realize that dragging him to an unfamiliar place to do exactly what he did not want to, that is work, would not sit well with him.

Sifa took on a very slightly more aggressive tone, but the rest of his body language did not change.

"Well I am sorry Sister, I will try not to embarrass our people as much as I can. I mean I was dragged halfway across the world to do this damn *coughs* I mean great job. That among other things have really made it really hard for me to.... adjust."

Fweiu glared at him for a moment.

"Sifa. You know that I love you. You're my brother. I would do anything for you. But surely you know that the way you act, always doing nothing, it isn't healthy. I worry for you."

This was, perhaps, the nicest way for her to approach the issue. In truth, she was embarrassed by him. She felt too guilty to hold him to a real job - she blamed herself for the way Sifa was.

Sifa sighed at what Fweiu said. The slight amount of energy that he had to argue with her was now gone. She was "concerned" for him. Sifa in many ways would have believed Fweiu when she said that she cared for him, but in this case he internally knew this was probably something else other than concern for him. If she had a problem like that, she could have tried to confront him about it earlier which, too be fair, did happen several times at home in the form of side hand jabs and other statements during their youth, but that didn't change anything.

"Sister I appreciate your concern, but why would you say that it isn't healthy, I have neither gained an inordinate amount of fat, nor actually become any more in danger than the last 143 years of my life. And I am capable of taking care of myself for the most part. I don't understand why you would imply my lifestyle is unhealthy"

Sifa feigned ignorance to the underlying problem of which he was partially aware. He knew at least partially where she was coming from. He knew how others in the clan viewed him and as a result was conscious somewhat of the type of pressure Fweiu would get from his actions, but he found it would take too much energy to fix the fickle opinions of others.

"What is the problem do you have with me in particular sister, please be more specific since I have my suspicions that this isn't just from our interactions in the community center."

"Fine."

Sifa already knew the answer. It wasn't the first time Fweiu had this argument with him.

"You would never do anything if we didn't force you, and you expect our clan to provide everything for you. You act like you are sick and we need to take care of you. Are you sick, Sifa? Are you not able to do work? Or are you just being unfair to us?"

Sifa just sighed at Fweiu's question. This question hadn't suprised him, and he was always confounded on how to answer it, because for all intents and purposes his sister was right but also he knew that he didn't give a flying fuck about the clan sometimes. His family, though, was another matter.

Sifa stayed in silence for a minute or two. The argument was already starting to wear at his already small pools of expendable energy He then responded with a canned answer that he had thought up to quickly diffuse the situation, maybe getting him off the hook a bit.

"Fweiu, you know that I am neither sick nor unable to work. My intentions are not to be unfair to you either, but that being said you should note that I generally am not needed for the jobs that you need done. I only need to do things that are asked of me by you correct? Or do you want me to find some problems with the clan and fix them too? I don't see the incentive to work more than I have to."

Sifa then yawned.

"You know that's not how it works" Fweiu said. "I'm trying to give you a role you can actually fill so the community doesn't start talking about pushing you out. For being useless and making us feed you anyway."

Fweiu grabbed a beer from the fridge. She really needed a drink right now. "Maybe I should've just let them get like that, huh? I'm putting in all this work to make you my problem, because you're family. You'd probably feel like it was a waste of energy, if you were me." She smirked, and gave him a weak jab on the shoulder before starting on the beer.

Sifa sighed as he listened to Fweiu. The statement that she had said definitely wasn't true. He would not let a family member do exactly what he did if he were in Fweiu's shoes, but he would never directly admit that to a family member, so he stayed a bit silent as she had thrown a bit of a jab at his shoulder.

"Hey fweiu can you ge.... actually I'll get it myself."

Sifa then got up, opened the refrigerator, and pulled out a beer for himself. To be honest with himself, he knew that beer tended to make him feel really groggy and out of it, but fuck it since he knew that what he was about to offer was going to be counter intuitive to what Fweiu most probably expected of him, and also against his normal disposition to avoid work at all costs.

He sighed, cracked open the beer, and took a deep draft before continuing. He needed a bit of a facade to admit some of this

"I just had a drink so I can't promise you that I am doing this completely sober and in the right mind. But I'll do my best at the job you gave me, and if you need a job done and you have no other people to fill the position do not hesitate to ask me... not that I can promise that I will do it or anything if its too bothersome..."

Sifa coughed and took another long swig.

Fweiu grinned, took a deep breath, and put a hand on Sifa's shoulder.

"You just had a sip. You're sober enough. So I'll hold you to it." She patted the shoulder a couple of times.

That was about as good a promise as she could get out of him.
