Vamos, vamos...

Banana-yellow eyes were practically glued to the screen as shaky hands gripped fiercely onto the computer mouse. For the teen, it took a lot of nerve to work up playing the anticipated indie horror game of the month. They seemed to be in right now, and the boy certainly wanted to fit in. After all, he had only been in this 'living' world for a handful of days. Better get off to a good start, right?

As much as he seemed to like what these humans called 'video games', he couldn't help to get the feeling he wasn't quite on the level of the horror genre yet. But it was free. And free was good. The facts that he was the only one in the room, it was night time, and he had good headphones in didn't seem to help his nerves at all. Fortunately however he brought a light with him in the otherwise dark room that he couldn't help. At least he wouldn't resort to being a total wimp and leaving the room's light on. That was the job of the white candle fixated onto his head.

The little orange flame flickered with nervousness as the headphones radiated the sounds of rustling leaves and baited breath. The candle headed boy gulped as he pressed forth using the keyboard. The monster in the game may be right around the corner, but he couldn't even tell...

Just as he clicked on a note in game, he heard a static-y noise that sent a shiver down his spine. He gulped, but before he could calm himself down, the monster of the game appeared right behind him. He turned around, and...

"AHHHHHH!" The kid screamed, covering his eyes and ripping the headphones ripping out as the sound of the jump scare sounding like bloody murder throughout the room. He pushed himself in the swivel chair, covering his eyes and tucking himself in a fetal position while whimpering to himself "Nopenopenopenopeohnoooooo....". The game itself flashed back to the title screen, leaving the room silent and lit by only the candlelight he produced. He sat in the chair in even more of a curled up position, head burrowed in his knees. Three thought ran in his head:

1) This was a bad idea.
2) Someone was probably going to think someone got killed in the computer lab at 11 at night.
3) The kid wasn't far from a ghost or monster himself and yet he was almost in tears by one.

“I don’t think we’re going to do this again, my nerves just cannot take this Guy.” Francis spoke up as he glanced around. The two of them were going on Guy’s routine therapy walk which Lucy had started while he was in the hospital. Francis had lost track of time and forgotten, but Lucy actually contacted him to remind him that he needed to keep Guy under a strict schedule.

Francis was very clearly scared of the dark and couldn’t peel his eyes from the windows which showed the eerie dark night. Guy however held no response or reaction as they slowly walked down the hallway. He didn’t even reach when Francis griped his shirt and coward beside him.

His psychiatrist had walked him every day and tried to involve him heavily in conversation which was always difficult to do with him. But she never stopped trying and purposely chose a time when all other patients were locked in their rooms. She believed Guy was more susceptible with conversation at night. However she never had any proof of this. Lucy had merely become close with him and gave him a special treatment she offered no other patient.

How could she though? When all of her other patients were children.

An abrupt and loud scream tore through the hallway and deep into Francis bones causing him to shriek out in fear. His petty hold on Guy turned into a full blown hug. Guy was forced to stop walking and balanced himself as Francis practically threw himself onto him.

“W-W-W-What was t-that?” Francis stuttered as he shivered sporadically against him.

Human contact was forbidden with him unless it was a handshake. But Francis had trouble following that rule and was constantly making contact with him. Guy didn’t react though and that seemed to only make Francis more incline to touch him more.

“Oh Guy…” Francis began as he continued latching himself onto his side. “I hate walking around at night. I need my beauty sleep. If my nerves get too wracked you see I break out and get blemishes everywhere! I cannot have that. If people were to see me in such a state I would just die. I would!”

Francis also talked a great deal more than Lucy and held no patience to wait for him to respond or try to encourage him to do so which was another rule that he failed to follow. Lucy had no idea that she had left him in such incapable hands, but she had no choice.

However Guy had no knowledge of why Francis was needed and luckily for everyone involved in his life he didn’t care either way.

“Now we are never doing this again. We can have your therapy walks in the morning like normal civil people. But if I am to sleep tonight we have to checkout that ungodly sound… I know in my heart that it was nothing… but that won’t help me sleep tonight. So we must investigate!”

Francis then hid behind Guy and began marching him forward and into the computer lap where the scream had come from. Guy stepped into dark room and seemed to focus solely on the computer screen. It took Francis a moment but soon he was peeking around the corner and glancing around the room.

“See there all empty… l-l-lets go.” He stumbled and shivered as he stepped inside the room and reached for the sleeve of Guy’s shirt. He was thankful it wasn’t too dark that nice candle over there—

“AHH!” Francis shrieked again as he realized the candle was attached to a dark figure that was alive! The room abruptly lit up and caused the purple haired man to jump and shriek once more. His red eyes jerked to Guy who had turned on the lights and given him another heart attack.

As he was deep within his fear, the candle headed boy didn't even notice the oncoming intruders coming in from the hallways. He merely sat tucked into a ball as his terror stricken eyes locked onto the screen in front of him blankly. His chest pulsed up and down with heavy breathing, his heart beating a mile a minute. His flame soon stopped wavering back and forth and instead opted to stand vertically, albeit shakily. He breathed into his nose, gulped, and whispered to himself "Es sólo un juego, es sólo un juego...". And after that, he calmed down.

Only to be scared again.

He nearly jumped out of his seat when someone to screamed at him, the boy practically leaping for the floor to curl up in yet another ball. "¡No me comas, por favor!" He begged in practically a prayer position, hands folding in such a manner. He looked up, blinking. Oh. It was just a person. He sighed with relief. He probably wouldn't eat him, right? God he hoped not.

He tried to straighten himself up, tucking his knees to his chest, halfway hiding his face. "Lo siento, ¿Hice lo asusto?" He asked in a trembling voice, still in a defensive position in case he decided to strike.

Es sólo un juego- It's just a game
¡No me comas, por favor!- Don't eat me please!
Lo siento, ¿Hice lo asusto- I'm sorry, did I scare you?

Francis brought his red eyes back to the boy who was curled up and seemed struck silent for once in his entire life. But as soon as the boy began sitting up from his ball like position Francis was immediately commenting on his speech.

“Oh no this boy doesn’t speak a lick of English. Do you think he’s talking about me?” Francis quickly asked and looked to Guy. But when he didn’t respond Francis brought his attention back to the boy.

“Ah… uh…” he began trying to figure out what to say before he crouched down to the boys level and lifted his hand and waved to him. “Hiiii,” he said before gesturing to himself.

“I am Francis. I am your friend—” he declared as slowly as he could muster. “—your fabulous friend.” He ended a little cheekily and looked to Guy as if he’d understand his clever word placement, but frowned at Guy when he saw him unkindly staring at the boys head.

“Now Guy, that’s rude avert your gaze,” he instructed and waved his hand at him to look the other way.

Guy who had been staring attentively at the boy’s candle slowly brought his multicolored gaze towards Francis before turning his head to stare at the wall. He had no feelings of fear like the two of them, and couldn’t relate to their emotions whatsoever, but he recognized them.

Unknown to Lucy, Guy had always studied people’s emotions to learn and know what they are feeling. There was a time when he would test people and animals to better understand their reaction and what emotions they were experiencing.

The boy’s appearance was strange to him… and that was why he watched him… to better assess his overall presence. He didn’t react to the language he spoke nor did he understand it, but he did pay attention to the tone of his voice.

Well... Crap. These people were first language English speakers, huh? Well, he may not necessarily understand what the two were saying, but he pretty much knew how they were due to the aura they were giving off. One was really, really outgoing and flamboyant. The other was dark and almost... Scary. Yeah, he emitted an almost on edge persona, something that made the Will-O-Wisp uncomfortable. But he still had to be friendly, right? Yeah, after all, he wanted to try to make friends.

"Hola. I understand hi." He pieced together the words as if he was reciting rather than conversing, but he wanted to get that point across. Other than a few key phrases and requests, he was pretty much lost for English. "Es agradable para conoces. Me llamo Tobey." He greeted with a content smile. The pleasantness of the situation faltered when he noticed the other guy staring at him. Tobey visibly gulped. Why was he acting like this? Maybe he was surprised by his candle. That usually seemed to be the case.

"Es... Something wrong?" He asked in slurred English, tilting his head. Looking between the two of them, he hoped to understand. Honestly, he hated being talked to really slowly. It didn't really help with comprehension, or at least so he thought. Maybe in the future when he had more of a grasp on the language. But for now, it was useless. He knew however that he was just being friendly, and trying to help. And that was what mattered.

"¿Mi candle...?" He asked as he gestured to his head, wondering if that's what they were looking at. "Es que what wrong?" His grammar wasn't the best, but whatever.

Es agradable para conoces.- It's nice to meet you.

Francis jerked his gaze back to the boy and was horrified when he realized he could understand them completely. But as the conversation went and Tobey had said everything he soon realized that this boy was being Mr. Sneaky. Since even though he said that he understood the boy was still clearly struggling. Francis was able to get his name though.

“Tobey ah!” he returned with a wide smile and then turned back to Guy. He raised his hand and tried to cover his mouth as he whispered.

“I don’t think he really understands us. I think he’s just trying real hard. Now isn’t that just cute!” Francis told Guy who was still staring at the wall and not giving him any kind of response.

“Guy you can look around,” he scolded him as he lowered his hand. “Just don’t stare at this here boy’s candle. Everyone I say everyone is unique in there own way.” Francis told him and then looked back to the boy.

“Isn’t that right hola Tobey mi uh… que…. adrabala,” Franis returned at first trying to pick out words he heard the boy say and then just plain and stupidly making some up of his own.

Guy who had ignored the candle boy, listened well to Francis and the moment he was allowed to look around he did so again. His gaze moved to one of the black computer screens, but only because the reflection showed the boy all over again. His hard gaze watched him closely as he began trying to piece his emotions to the flame on his head.

“Your candle is very fabulous… now uh do you need some help up?” Francis asked and began reaching to lift him up before the boy could even agree.

Though the shock of his scary game had worn off, Tobey couldn't help but to feel on edge for both being so in the dark in terms of the other boy and his language barrier. He could feel as if the two were talking about him, especially when one leaned in to speak with the other. He frowned slightly and ran a hand through his 'hair', sighing. This was going to be tough.

That feeling of slight dismay however eventually turned to light amusement when he tried to imitate his language. He was pronouncing everything wrong, which made him giggle slightly. "Oh no... Es agradable..." He smiled as he pulled a small dictionary from his pocket, supplied to him by the counselor. Usually he was way too slow to properly read things over during conversation. But whenever he picked up a single word or two and had the time, he tried to learn something new. "N...Nice." He pointed to the dictionary, nodding. Hopefully he'd learn something new today, at least in terms of picking up new words. He hoped that the other would as well.

Luckily for him, he understood cognates. 'Fabulous' sounded close to fabuloso, and that was something he comprehended. Put that next to candle which sounded close to candela and he got the basic gist. "¡Gracias!" He dipped his head out of respect, hopefully getting the point across that he was thankful. Then again, that was one of the few words that many English speakers knew in Spanish. When he was asked if he needed help, he accepted his had and pulled himself up. Tobey straightened up his clothes before looking at the two. Figuring they were curious about the wax that made up his hair an the candle sticking out of it, he pointed to area of interest. With that, he fumbled in his pocket, pulling out a yellow post-it that had what looked like a speech of sorts that he was given to recite. Hopefully it would answer some questions.

"Um..." He began, clearing his throat. "My candle is a mark of my... Her-it-age..? I am a Will-O-Wisp, and instead of leading people to their deaths... I acc..omp-an-y them in the afterlife. I am a 'light' for the deceased to follow, and it is a symbol of the realm in between earth and heaven... Think of me as a bea-con..." He recited while tripping up his words and slurring his speech. Fortunately, he knew the difference between English and Spanish vowel pronunciations, for he practice those a lot. Everything else however... He could uses work on. "¿Tienes preguntas?"

The boy had himself a dictionary that would work wonders for their new found friendship. Francis just couldn’t wait to speak to him in—he glanced down to the book— Spanish! He had heard of that language before, but gosh he could get languages mixed up. He spoke English just fine and to him that was already complicated enough. There was no way he would bother spending time trying to figure out the difference between French sounding people and Spanish.

He did say ‘gracias’ though and that word sounded splendid just splendid. “Gracias,” he told the boy back, but he just couldn’t say it as nice as him. This caused him to frown a moment, but he quickly wiped his frown away before it caused him unkindly wrinkles!

The two of them were standing up now and the boy was reading to them both. Francis immediately looked to Guy and waved him over to stand beside him and listen attentively to this boy’s message.

“Now is the appropriate time to stare,” he stated in a hush whisper and then listened to the boy as he spoke. By the end of his explanation, Tobey was faced with a deathly pale looking Francis.

“I… I…” he stumbled over his words and widened his eyes as he looked around. He quickly gestured towards Tobey’s book before taking it to try and ask him a very important question.

Guy was told to look again and that’s exactly what he did. The boy’s emotions seemed connected to his candle because the flame didn’t act like any candle he had ever seen. This interested him greatly because it was a challenge to decipher. As Francis began flipping through the pages of the dictionary, Guy abruptly stepped directly in front of the boy until he was within his personal space and staring down at him.

“G-Guy what are you doing?!” Francis quickly stuttered and immediately pulled him back. “You don’t do that to people. Oh gosh I am frightened to death here and now you’re acting out.” He huffed and began trying to find the word he was looking for again.

“Es-Espant… uh.. Espantado…” he began trying to translate his question… “uh… por…” he continued and unconsciously frowned as he quickly searched for the final word.

“F-Fantasma?” he asked still wide eyed as he looked to the boy. In his mind when the boy explained that he dealt with the undead… he immediately thought that he had been scared by a ghost… that there was an actual ghost in this room!

As the two further attempted to communicate Tobey visibly relaxed. The flame on top of his head ceased flickering and instead began to wave smoothly. "De nada." He replied with a tiny yet sincere smile. That smile however wavered when both Francis grew uneasy and the other more tense. Tobey looked between the two in confusion as he tried to figure the situation out. Why was the older so scared, and the younger so scary? He kept trying to figure that out until the other straight up loomed over him. With that, Tobey's flame became once more jittery as fear coursed down his spine. He even squirmed a bit under his figure, his body practically shrinking under him as his yellow eyes showed distress. Was the bigger guy going to hurt him? Why was he looking at him like that? Why-

Well, on any case he was soon pulled away, Tobey gulping in response. He almost went to thank the older one though was interrupted by yet another question. It was wonderful that he was trying to communicate through the little translation book. But he couldn't smile at this as he was just too scared at the moment. But to comfort the other man, he placed his hands open in front of him to calm him down. "Nonono, ¡No tengas miedo!" He shook his head, pointing to the still on computer screen. "No vi una fantasma..." He then blushed somewhat embarrassingly, running a hand through his wax. "Es un videojuego- ah... Vi-de-o game." Wow, and he had made these guys think he saw something real terrifying. How embarrassing!

De nada- you're welcome
No tengas miedo- Don't be afraid! (Or literally don't have fear)
No vi una fantasma- I didn't see a ghost

On a side note, this Spanish is with what I'm learning/have learned in school, the gaps being filled with Google translate and word reference. Hope ya don't mind :)

Lucy would have reprehended his inappropriate behavior immediately, but Francis was so frantic with the idea of there being a ghost around that it was practically impossible for him to scold Guy. Luckily, Lucy had devised a safe plan just in case Guy ever became unstable.

The candle boy reacted greatly and revealed more about his emotions through his candle and especially his yellow eyes. But Guy couldn’t enjoy his reaction… or even concentrate on it any more. His thoughts were becoming groggy until he couldn’t think clearly at all. What had he been doing? Why was it so difficult to think…?

Guy seemed to strain for a moment as he fought his confusion, but the battle was easily lost and soon his mind was blank again. He couldn’t remember what had just happened and he didn’t care enough to think on it any more.

“Oh…” Francis responded with relief as the boy quickly began saying one word he understood very well, ‘no’. He felt so relieved he could just hug this boy! Actually that’s exactly what he was going to do! But he politely waited for the boy to finish with his explaining.

The boy pointed over to the computer screen where a creepy image was stuck on the screen. Francis immediately understood, but thought it was a prank on his poor candle boy. But his attention was brought back to the boy when he blushed and explained as best as he could that it was just a video game.

“Oh...!” Francis responded and for a moment seemed speechless. “Well don’t you worry I will take care of that stupid video game for you!” He declared and moved to get down on his hands and knees and unplug that terrible machine.

Guy remained still and seemed distracted all over again by the candle on top of the boy’s head. But his mind was elsewhere. He was trying to remember why he needed to be sent here. The hospital had been perfect for him, but now he was forced to remain here. Lucy had sent him away because of his immortality… she had sent him away because he was a problem…

His gaze dulled but he couldn’t recognize his own feelings on his thoughts. His own emotions were always foreign to him. He could identify other peoples but his own remained a mystery.
