Late Arrival

Jude was wearing a hoodie that hid the worst of the silver, but Broen had already known about that, so he wasn't concerned. He didn't know about Giltenn, only Jude wasn't volunteering that information anyway, and it wasn't as if he could tell with a glance.

"It's weird here," Jude said with a shrug. "You'll get used to it. The school's good--and free--and they put you up and everything."

How much did he want to tell them?

"Almost everyone else from my group is here, but I don't think any of the adults made it over yet."

Key word yet. Who did Broen even care about? No one, really. Himself. Himself and no one else, and wasn't that kind of sad?

Jude frowned, staring into space for a moment, and then turned his attention back to Broen.

"It's good you made it, though." He meant that, he was pretty sure. He'd never really liked Broen, and they'd fought constantly, but he had stopped one of the Gultha, and more or less died heroically doing so. And it wasn't like he could cause that much trouble on island.

Right?

Jude cringed when Broen slapped him on the shoulder, but truthfully it wasn't that bad. If they'd been back on Halcyon, Jude would have been horrified to see him, but knowing that he'd effectively come back from the dead and made it through the portal? Well, getting called boyscout felt like home.

"You'd be right," Jude said with a shrug. "No powers, and with her skillset she'll just vanish into the crowd. We're looking into ways to track her down, but it's not like it's easy or anything."

Pretty much impossible. They'd need someone specialized, and even then it probably wouldn't work.

"It's different here," Jude said with a pointed look at Broen. "No heroes or villains. Just people. And they're really serious about the veil stuff."

"School," Jude said, taking a moment to consider the idea of Broen in school. Truthfully? He couldn't really see it. The idea of Broen in school made about as much sense as Broen as one of the Sentinels. It just didn't fit together. "They'll probably enroll you and get you caught up. Histories all different here, for one, but most of the other stuff's the same. After that? It's pretty much life as normal. No superheroics, just normal jobs and stuff."

Which would probably bore Broen to tears, now that he thought about it.

"There's an arena they let you fight in if you're feeling fighty, and a lot more things are legal here, for what it's worth." Broen liked fighting, right? Jude thought so, but actually telling what Broen liked versus what he liked doing just to upset his dad were kind of hard to tell apart.
