Laila Re'tzi
There is no greater warrior than a mother protecting her child
150 | April 3rd | Female | Lamia | Citizen | Currently unemployed
APPEARANCE
Laila would almost look like an angel if she were not a lamia. She has pale skin and baby blue eyes. Her sandy blonde hair is cut short and fluffy. The scales of her tail are green, and scales run up along the right side of her torso—along her arm, neck, and face.
Laila is a fairly large Lamia, with her tail stretching 13 meters in length—only two meters smaller than Corsalyn, who is the largest Arore sister.
High Priestesses traditionally wear very little clothing, and Laila is used to wearing nothing but small, golden metal pieces that adhere to the curves of her body. Clothing made of fabric is foreign to her, and will be difficult for her to get used to.
She has a faint scar on her throat.

PERSONALITY
Laila is proper and polite—and some would say a bit unusual and mysterious. She talks very little about herself, mostly focused either on her faith or on the Arore sisters. They are the two things her life has always revolved around, after all. Laila has never had a romantic partner, or children of her own—her life was dedicated to raising the children of others.
Despite every single Arore sister being raised by her, all the sisters would agree that they know very little about Laila. She is kind and motherly, but shares little of her own personal preferences. She often acts as a watchdog—remaining silent, to the side, simply watching.
Laila is highly religious, which is hardly a surprise for someone raised to be a Priestess. She believes that Ishtar led her to become the caretaker of the Arore sisters—that it was her life’s purpose.
Laila almost seems…perfect. A bit too perfect. Surely Laila has flaws—but as a high Priestess, she has been trained to hide them well.

POWERS
Telepathy
Laila has the ability to speak to others via her mind; transferring her thoughts to others. She needs to be 10 feet or closer to whoever she is transferring her thoughts to. Laila can have her thoughts transferred either to a group of multiple people, or she can restrict them to one person. To focus her thoughts to only one person, she needs to touch them and look directly into their eyes.
Laila is not a mind reader. She can transfer her own thoughts to others, but she cannot read the thoughts of others.

Protector of the Sisters
Laila's powers are based in her selflessness as a Priestess. They function to heal and protect others. It is believed her powers were granted by Ishtar herself to make Laila the ideal caregiver of the Arores.
Healer: Laila has the ability to heal small wounds instantly—cuts, scraps, etc. Larger injuries take considerable more time and energy. She needs to be able to concentrate on a large injury, making it nearly impossible to heal someone in the middle of combat. It also drains her energy and once she reaches her limit, she will pass out.
Laila’s scales have healing properties, and can be converted into a healing potion if pulled from her body and ground into a fine powder.
The weakness of her healing powers is that she cannot heal her own wounds. Her power only functions to serve others.
In addition, Laila cannot fully heal injuries caused by the venom of an Arore sister. She may be able to remove enough of the venom out of someone’s body to prevent their death and heal the flesh, but they will have permanent scars and muscle weakness in the area they were injected.
Reverse Medusa Guardian: Rather than turning others into stone like the famed Medusa, Laila can turn into stone herself in order to guard others. Laila’s stone-state only happens under certain circumstances: she must be guarding someone directly behind her, and something or someone must be about to attack her directly.
When these circumstances are met, Laila’s body will become an impenetrable stone. Weapons cannot break her, and even the strongest Lamia could not crush her with their tail. She can move to some degree in this state, but is extremely heavy and sluggish. She can move enough to continue blocking whoever she is protecting, but she cannot fight in this state.
The stone-state goes away once the danger is gone.

SPECIES ABILITIES
Strength: Laila is a large and powerful Lamia, with most of her strength focused in her massive tail. She can bend metal with her tail, and crush weaker materials.
Increased Life Span, Healing, Durability: Like the rest of the Lamia of her realm, Laila heals from injuries at twice the rate of humans. She can certainly die if pushed too hard, but Lamia are very durable and tough to kill. She has a strong immune system and does not get sick easily unless she is in the cold for a long span of time. The average life span of Lamia is around 500+ years.

Movement: Like the Arore sisters, Laila is a powerful swimmer and is able to climb trees and other ascending surfaces with ease.
Weaknesses:
Full Moon: Just like her sisters and the rest of the Lamia in her realm, Laila is susceptible to the drastic change in her hormones brought on by the full moon. Laila becomes so primal at this time, that she completely forgets her own telepathy and cannot communicate except through guttural noises and hisses. Because Laila used to have access to potions that allowed her to avoid the full moon mania, she is even less accustom to it than any of the Arore sisters—and is even more wild.
Size: Much like Corsayln, Laila is extremely large and feels rather clumsy and awkward as she tries to get used to living in a world that wasn’t made for her body size.

Cold-blooded: Being a reptile, Laila is of course cold-blooded and becomes very sluggish in colder weather. Laila is particularly temperature sensitive and cannot go outside in the winter without some sort of heat charm, or else she will just entirely shut down and go into a hibernation-like state until she is brought somewhere warmer.
HISTORY
Laila was an orphaned child, abandoned and taken in at a sacred Temple of Ishtar. She was raised to be a Priestess, knowing no other life beyond that. Her life was devoted to the worship of Ishtar and to using her powers of healing to help others. As she grew older, it became clear that she was an ideal candidate to become a caretaker for the Arore sisters.
As caretaker to the Arore sisters, Laila was given many special privileges not granted to many. For example, she was one of the few Lamia who were expected not to have children so that she could focus entirely on the Arore sisters, and thus was given a special potion so that she would not be affected by the full moon.
Once Chi, the last of the Arore sisters, outgrew Laila and no longer needed her care, life became rather lonely for Laila. She returned to her duties in the temple as a high priestess, but missed the time she spent with the baby Arores. Many of the sisters still loved her dearly though, many considering Laila their true mother over their birth mothers, so her presence was frequently requested at the palace.
During one visit to the palace, she saw something she should not have saw. The Queen and the 28th sister. The 28th Arore sister had been considered so dangerous, that the other 27 sisters had subdued her and locked her away, but now she was free and speaking to the queen as if they were allies. It made no sense. With her loyalty ultimately to the Arore sisters, Laila went to find whoever she could find first to warn them—but the guards noticed her first. Laila was swiftly caught and taken to the Palace prisons, beaten and tortured for her indiscretions. Of her injuries, one of the most severe was to her neck—she survived it, but her vocal chords were permanently damaged. She could not speak a word. The guards did not know that Laila had telepathy powers and did not truly ‘silence’ her, but she dared not reveal that.
Knowing that Laila was considered a precious Priestess to the Arore sisters, there was a plan to smuggle her out in the middle of the night so that no Arore sister would know of her treatment, and so that Laila would never have the opportunity to reveal anything to them. They were in the woods when Laila managed to sneak a knife away from one of the guards and injure them enough to escape. But Laila was still suffering from severe injuries, and she would not be able to slither away for long.
She remembered the Arore sisters talking of a portal. The one that some of the sisters had gone through and never come back from. She was near it, and it was clear to Laila that it may be her only chance.
Laila found the portal just in time, escaping from additional forces out to hunt her down. She emerged on Manta Carlos, in so much pain and having lost so much blood that she couldn’t move anymore.
Ishtar must have been watching over her that night though, because Chi and Corsalyn happened to be in the forest that night, and found their childhood caregiver. Right away, they took her to the hospital to get her treated…and now Laila finds herself in a whole new world, learning to adjust just as all the Arore sisters who came before her did.

OTHER
-Supporting Character
-Lives at: Rolden's Mansion
-Relationship status: Single
-Yes, she does have embarrassing stories about EACH Arore sister as babies.
-Like most Lamia, Laila has a preference for women. However, she is intrigued by men...but mostly in that 'I hardly ever see these!' novelty sort of way. Having lived most of her life in the Temple and the Palace and having never experienced the full moon mania, men were an exceptionally rare sight to her.
-She once had a beautiful singing voice and always sang lullabies to each of the girls as babies. She feels it isn't quite the same with telepathy, and regrets the loss of her voice.
