Build: Athletic (male)/Hourglass (female) Female reference || Male reference Kylar looks similar in both her male and female form. Her hair is fire red and her eyes are unnaturally the same color. While in her male form, Kylar's hair is short and wind struck, but in her female form, her hair is long and tightly curled, falling somewhere right below her shoulders. She has a refined, aristocratic nose and a sharp-featured face. While Kylar's teeth can be overlooked as normal, in reality, they are two bone plates rather than "teeth" as people have them. She has no individual teeth. In public, Kylar walks with the posture of a dancer. She is carefully refined in how her body language reads. While spending time with someone she knows well, and in private, she is more languid. She doesn't use more energy than is needed for anything. Crocotta Form
Her Crocotta form is as large as a small horse, with thick claws and very sharp and powerful bone plates that act as her teeth. She does not possess individual teeth as ordinary people do. She has the coloration of a lion and a hyena mixed, with an overall fur color more suited to a lion, but lighter stripes along her back and legs suited for a striped Hyena. Her paws, claws, and facial structure are closer to a lion, and she even sports a thick mane. She has no tail. |
Personality
Kylar is someone who is scientifically interested in the world. As someone who can cause pain so easily but is unable to feel it herself, she's gotten a particular fascination with how others process and feel the pain they have inside.
While Kylar struggles with her empathy, she very much always wishes she had more of it. That she could truly understand how the people around her feel about things. Tears, pain, crying, all of this draws her in and makes her watch.
Kylar is extremely academic. Engineering, in particular, is something she has always been interested in.
Kylar does see herself as superior to people who she feels are over emotional while she can maintain a clear head about nearly anything.
She feels smarter, more organized, and further along in her life than the people around her and this shows in the smile she wears or the tone of voice with which she speaks.

Crocotta Mimicry: Crocotta can mimic any sound they have heard before, in both their human and Crocotta forms. This allows them to speak in their Crocotta form, usually by piecing together words and phrases they have heard from various sources into sentences, which likely sounds quite unsettling.Crocotta Shifting: As a Crocotta, Kylar can shapeshift between her human and Crocotta forms at will. Likewise, she can shift her biological sex at any point in either of these forms.
Crocotta Stare: Any non-sapient animal that Kylar stares down finds itself paralyzed, so long as she maintains her stare upon it. Likewise, any time her shadow falls over a non-sapient animal, the creature becomes incapable of vocalizing while it remains there.
Pain Inducement: With the flick of her wrist, Kylar can cause intense pain in her victims. This is not telepathic or mental magic of any sort, thus people who have powers to stop such things wouldn't be able to stop Kylar's magic. The magic is a throbbing pain that lets up only enough to let a person subconsciously relax before wrecking them again. This does not damage the body.
Kylar may only use this magic on two people at a time and must be in hearing range. The pain never increases or decreases in intensity. Something about this magic keeps people from naturally growing a tolerance to it.
No matter how much she uses this ability on someone, it never becomes lethal or cripples the body once she has stopped. After she stops inflicting pain, it only takes three to five seconds for the person to feel okay.
Passives
Crocotta Immunity: Crocotta are entirely immune to damage caused by metallic weapons. None of them are actually capable of doing anything worse than causing moderate surface bruising. Any enchanted weaponry bypasses this immunity.Crocotta Physiology: In her Crocotta form, Kylar can run faster than the average racehorse (though she can only run in short 2-4 minute bursts before needing to rest for a few minutes more), is as strong as a bull, and can heal from injuries slightly faster than a human. In her human form, her speed and strength diminish to half these levels but the healing rate does not. Kylar is also very long-lived and will be at 'middle age' when she's approximately 100. As a predator, Kylar can eat raw and rotted meat with no ill effects.
Crocotta senses: Kylar's senses of hearing, smell, and sight are far above that of a human, and on par with animals like hyenas or wolves. Her sense of taste is dulled.
Mind Reading: Kylar's mind reading ability works via distance. She doesn't require touching anyone to hear their thoughts. Their thoughts are approximately the same volume as a voice, with insistent thoughts being louder like yelling and fleeting thoughts like a whisper.
She hears thoughts in the voice and tone of the person thinking them. The only difference between the tone of a thought and someone physically speaking is a light reverberation in thoughts that most voices cannot mimic.
She is incapable of turning this power off.
She cannot read impulsive actions or thoughts that are in a different language than one she can speak. In places with many people, all thinking at once or intensely Kylar can become overwhelmed and need to step out.

Dulled Pain: Kylar has a dulled sense of pain. She might break her leg but will not cry out or scream due to being unable to feel it.She must be more attentive to the needs of her body. Even things like the pain of hunger and thirst go unnoticed by her. She keeps a strict schedule of when she eats and intakes liquids to try to keep from starving herself.
Flesh-Eater: Kylar must consume sapient flesh regularly to maintain her sanity. Fresh meat is better and healthier for her. Going so much as a week without any meat would be enough to render her inhuman and incapable of forethought.
Predatory Instincts: Kylar is prone to losing control when those around her act like prey and has found herself subconsciously on the hunt or stalking someone whom she sees as weak enough to be food. This makes controlling her impulses difficult and when even slightly hungry, near impossible.
Kylar's thought process works closer to apex predators than it does a human. She has the desire to kill and consume anything worth its energy when hungry, and has no understanding of morality beyond what may or may not inconvenience her. She thinks about the most logical course of action to the knowledge she has, rather than taking into consideration any emotional attachments she may have.
History
CW: Mentions of alcoholism, animal abuse, and self-harm.○ Kylar was born in Iceland to a stay at home mother and an alcoholic father. From an early age, Kylar gave off red flags. Self-harm, fights, tantrums.
○ Growing up, she had a sick fascination with pain and took to torturing the neighborhood animals to sate her curiosity.
○ Her mother later took her out of school when her home life got worse and her parent's frustration with her was on an incline.
○ When the letter to Starlight Academy came, Kylar's mother couldn't have sent her off faster.
