I'm trying to get into Govenor's School, which is this thing you apply for and if you're accepted you go to, in my case, Erie for 5 weeks, all expenses paid (except travel). Since I'm trying for Creative Writing, that's what I'll be focusing on if I get in. So I'm working on a short story....I don't know if I'll finish it...hopefully....anyway, here's what I have so far:

"Are you feeling better?" Alyssa looked down at me.
"Ugh..." I replied, feeling terrible. I tried to sit up but Alyssa immediately pushed me back down.
"Don't get up. You're not well enough." She said softly. My vision blurred and I saw a few copies of her above me, then I blacked out.
When I came to, Alyssa was gone. The room was empty and I felt well enough to sit up and look around. It was my room, though a bit neater than normal. The dresser was nearly clear of everything, why, I didn't know, but it was weird. There were blankets piled on top of me, a few on the floor beside me. I assumed I had pushed them off while I was sleeping, and I could tell why. I was really hot, so I pushed the rest of them to the end of the bed. I had to be careful, though, since my left hand was bandaged. That sucked, since that's the hand I write with. I wasn't completely sure why it was like that, but I vaguely remember it getting cut really badly. All I could really remember of it was a lot of crimson, what I figured was blood. Great.
I got up and found out I was just in a pair of boxers, and tattered ones at that. There was a scratch on my chest, but other than that it seemed like I was okay. The hand injury was going to be a problem, though.
I shut the door and locked it, then dug through my drawers to find a clean pair of boxers. I got changed slowly, putting on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, then headed downstairs. It was a bit hard going down the steps since I was still a bit dizzy and I could only hold on to the railing with my right hand.
I don't know how I was this calm, how I could just get dressed without thinking about what happened. It didn't last much longer. As soon as I got down to the living room, there were a bunch of people there and I started wondering why. I had stopped at the bottom of the steps, not even realizing it. Everyone's grave faces looked at me, and then I saw Fiona's expression. Everything came back.
I was riding my bike, the new one I had gotten for Christmas, down the street. Fiona was riding beside me and we were having fun going down the hills. Going up was a pain, but we talked on the way.
"So what are you going to do when you graduate?" She said, looking at me.
"Go to college, duh." I replied, smiling at her.
"Where, I mean." She smiled a bit in return and gave me a look like "You know what I mean."
"I want to get into NYU, but I don't think I will. It's in another state, for one, and I've never lived in a city before. What about you?" I said truthfully, hoping I could get it. My grades were good enough, I hoped.
"I don't know." She looked at her handlebars.
"Hey, there's something over there...." I stopped, looking at the house to the left. It was old, run down, the typical house that little kids thought was haunted.
"I didn't see anything...." Fiona started going in that direction, and I followed. She left her bike on the front lawn and I put mine beside hers. Jogging to catch up to her, I looked up at the house. I didn't know what I had seen, but it had been at the side, not the interior.
"Over here." She said, moving to the side of the house. A cat came out, and she bent down to pet it. It purred at her touch, it's calico back arcing up to meet her hand.
"Okay, so it was only a cat." I said, feeling kind of stupid.
"A little bit paranoid, are we?" Her voice was teasing.
"As always." I replied and knelt down beside her to join in stroking the cat. As soon as I reached my hand toward it, it ran away, hissing from a few feet away.
"I guess it doesn't like men." Fiona moved forward and I stayed where I was.
As soon as Fiona had bent down to pet the cat again, a woman stepped out from behind the house and looked at us.
"Who are you?" She said rather rudely, a slightly confused look on her face.
Fiona stood up as soon as she had seen this woman, and the cat went to the stranger's side. Moving back toward me, she said nothing and kept a wary look on her face.
"I'm Rob." I said, since Fiona wasn't going to say anything. I was wary, though, even if I wasn't showing it as much as she was. "Who are you?" I thought it was only fair that she give her name, also.
"Sofia." She said simply, kneeling to touch the cat's fur. It purred even more than it had for Fiona.
Fiona moved a little closer to me and whispered, "I've never seen her around."
"Neither have I." I replied as quietly and hoped Sofia couldn't hear. "So where are you from?" I aimed it at Sofia and she stood up before answering.
"I just bought this house." She acted like she was answering my question. It annoyed me when people did that, but I didn't want to be rude right off the bat.
"That's cool." I said simply, at a loss for words.
"Is that your cat?" Fiona looked at it and I knew she wanted to pet it more. She loved them.
"Yes. Her name's Stardust." Sofia looked at Fiona and smiled softly.
"That's nice.." Fiona seemed mesmerized by the cat and I thought it was odd, but nothing more.
"Would you like to come inside?" Sofia looked at me now and I noticed that they were a very light color, almost purple.
"I guess.." I replied, without really thinking. In response, she started walking away and I followed. The cat came back to walk next to Fiona, though it was clearly infatuated with Sofia. Fiona continued to stare at the cat, but I didn't really wonder why. Her obsession was odd, but mine was worse. I couldn't take my eyes off of Sofia, her shining black hair, her hips, the shirt she was wearing, everything. Some emotion just took over me; I felt like I was a sheep, following her to whatever end.
She opened the door to her new house and went in, and I followed. The cat and Fiona stayed outside; maybe the cat knew it wasn't allowed in. After shutting the door behind me, I followed Fiona into her kitchen, which looked rather ragged. It was missing the normal kitchen items, but it was not bare. There were boxes piled everywhere, some open, others closed, a couple huge ones stacked on top of small.
"Do you want something to drink?" She asked me, and I woke up out of my stupor.

"Yeah, I guess..." I told her and she got out a glass from one of the boxes. It looked like a sippy cup that little kids use, but I didn't pay much attention to it.
"Isn't this cup so cute? I love it!" She hugged the cup to her chest, then stopped and put water from the tap into it. I took the cup when she handed it to me and took a drink, feeling a little bit stupid. Most of my mind was concentrated on Sofia.
Suddenly, I heard a banging on the door that we had came through previously. I didn't realize that I had locked it and when I turned my head, Fiona was creating the noise. She was also yelling, but I couldn't hear her too well.
"Oh, I don't know why she's doing that." Sofia moved to the door and looked at Fiona, but didn't open it.
"What do you want?" Sofia asked her, her face turned away from me.
"Let him go!" Fiona yelled through the glass and beat her hand against it one more time, letting her fist stay there.
"Why would I do that? I like him, and I keep what I like." Sofia glanced at me, but I stayed where I was. I felt rather indifferent in the whole situation.
"I don't care what you like! Let him out!" Fiona looked really frantic now, and I couldn't understand why. I was just here; I would leave sometime.
"No. I keep what I like." Sofia repeated and moved next to me. She put her head on my shoulder and looked out at Fiona with a smile on her face.
