Name: Kane Smith
Age: 18, physically. Mentally, he is closer to his 40s.
Birthday: December 12th, 1998
Gender: Male.
Species: Half-Phoenix
Category: Student
Class: High School
Grade: 12th
Appearance Description: Kane is a slender individual- though he plans on changing that very soon with frequent visits to the gym. He stands at roughly 5'11" and has short, white, spiky hair with a cowlick that falls down the center of his forehead. He is Caucasian, his eyes a piercing light blue that can often come across as glowing, with how saturated the color is. His wings, when unfolded are feathered and white, with, roughly, a 5-foot wingspan.
Personality Description: Kane is a bitter, angry man. He's hotheaded, and often will tell someone off if they anger him. He will not take any lick of foolery, and if he spots a liar, he will call them out on it. He isn't one to rush in without observing though, usually. Despite his temper, he knows that going in without thinking is usually dangerous- so unless he's really pissed off, he's very likely to calculate a plan before doing anything major.
He isn't one to give kindness to just anyone, but he's not heartless. Children tend to earn more of a softer attitude from him than others, as well as animals. However, if he sees someone in need or being wronged, he will step in. Just don't expect him to try and be your friend after.
In fact, I'd say in general Kane tries to avoid friendships. He has learned the hard way that people who associate with him tend to suffer, and he often fears bringing others into his messes in case they, too, would fall to the same fates of the others in his life. Himself included. This makes actual affection awkward for him, and it often will come off brasher than intended if he's trying to consciously do it.
Species Abilities: Kane is half Phoenix- specifically that of the light magic category, in his world. Here are their main abilities:
Flight: I feel silly putting this here, but Phoenixes can fly. There is no real magic to this- they work just like our arms and legs. Flight time varies just like how people can lift weights- with practice. Their wings are not indestructible, though. They can easily be broken or ripped off if attacked, as well as burned, stabbed, or otherwise.
Healing Wings: Part of what caused a rift between humans and Phoenix back in his world was the fact that Phoenix wings, especially those of the white area have healing capabilities. An entire wing, if chopped off can heal grave injuries with ease. Back when Phoenix were pure bloods, the wings actually had the ability to revive someone if they were recently dead- but this ability has been lost due to the bloodline thinning.
The drawback of this is that wings do not grow back, this is a one-time thing. Feathers also do not grow back, so if one is plucked it's gone for good once it's used to heal. A feather alone can only heal a scratch, so bigger wounds require more feathers. Due to this, healing via feathers or wings is only used in the case of an emergency.
Light Magic: Phoenixes in Kane's world usually had one of two elements- Light or Fire. Light users are easily spotted due to their white hair and wings. This is simple- they use light magic. It's usually a pure white, but as it's light, it can also be made to reflect other colors.
Its offense qualities are slim due to light magic not being typically used for fighting, but if focused, the light magic can act like fire and burn people- only it's not as effective. It's most effective against dark magic, and can, if properly trained, purify it. If the dark magic user is stronger, though, their light magic can easily be combated. They can solidify it into light arrows, which can impale and thus harm things, but this is no more powerful than a regular arrow, and dissipates within seconds of hitting its target.
Where light magic for them truly shines is in defensive qualities. They can create illusions with the magic, letting it reflect light in a way to appear as something. They can be used to create clones if practiced well enough- it won't be solid, but it will lock it- as well as being able to create mini scenes. Light shows are also common, considering the color can be changed, and can also be used as a distraction in battle while the phoenix himself escapes.
Powers: Kane has no abilities distinct to himself- he is true to his kind. However, he has a distinct skill in sword handling, as he's fought almost his entire life.
Kane, before he fell here could make nearly flawless clones, but due to reverting to physically 18 he can no longer form them. It will take training before he can do that again. For now, he can make silhouettes but they're blurred, and transparent. He can still do rainbow shows, though, and often does for small children.
***Warning. You have reached the end of the safe part of this bio. Kane's history has child abuse, spousal abuse, suicide mentions, and some violence. If you are sensitive to these, do not continue. You have been warned.***
Biography: Kane's life just.. started out awful and never really got better. He was son to Jonathan, the king of the Phoenix kingdom. Now, the family started out simple enough. Things were happy up until Kane was roughly four, and that is when the royal council began tampering with the king's mind. They hadn't liked changes he'd planned on making. They didn't realize, however, just how badly this would mess with the king's mind.
What followed was years of abuse, towards both the queen, and Kane, and even Kane's younger brother on occasion. Most was directed at the queen and would entail unspeakable things, often times in front of Kane and his brother, Liam. It grew to a point Kane did the unthinkable- he went out with his brother, dropped his brother off somewhere he felt people would raise them, and left without turning back. He returned home that day expecting his father specifically to finally lose it and kill him for doing this.
And, well, he was right, but not entirely. What proceeded was a massive beating, and the near tearing-off of his wings- but was saved by the queen, who'd intervened. Unfortunately, this intervention lead to her being killed. In front of Kane. The head being dropped into his lap is something that has stayed with him, all this time.
Somehow that murder distracted him, though. The king, for a moment, seemed horrified at his actions. So Kane ran, far, far away, fleeing the kingdom and flying down to earth. It was clumsy due to his injuries, but he managed.
From this point, whether by miracle or pity of the gods, Kane just happened to land in the same city his estranged uncle was in. It took a while to actually be located by him, and even when he had, it'd been be sheer chance. Samuel- this uncle- didn't even recognize him at first, he'd more just intended to take him in out of pity.
Now, Samuel had been cut off years before, back when the king had first begin losing his sanity. Samuel had fallen down a dark path himself- he'd recently lost his wife due to birth complications, and was raising twins already. Now he had a clearly psychologically damaged nephew to assist as well, and it was rough. Kane did heal while with him, though, and as time progressed even began helping around the house by his early teens. They had a nice, happy little family.
But, of course, that fell to hell very soon after that. Jonathan had recovered himself from before, but now had intentions of taking all of earth as his own, and paying humans back for their previous sins- such as nearly killing them off before. And of course, this started by invading Samuel's town.
Samuel was able to fight him off at least enough for Kane and the twins, Ren and Seth, to escape, but was taken himself. His fate would lie in becoming a slave to the king, forced to be puppeted by him.
Kane, on the other hand, was now a teen forced to raise children on his own while fending off whatever abominations- his uncle now included- would try and attack him and the towns he would reside in. He moved frequently. Money was an issue, but due to being 16 by this point, it wasn't hard for him to get jobs- he also had his uncle's bank account. Even if said uncle was no longer putting money into it.
It wasn't until he reached a town in Minnesota that he finally settled, mainly due to finding a few things. One, he re-acquainted with Liam. There'd been a lot of harsh words said from Liam to begin with, but they managed to make amends. Liam had been adopted by an old family friend of the king, named Evan.
Now, Kane at first did not want to tell them all that was going on, but between the increased new reports of attacks on the country and overall being exhausted, he eventually admitted to everything. Evan began assisting him financially, which allowed him to attend school again. They'd work together to deal with the king in due time.
While staying there, Kane would also meet his future husband, James, as well as a friend and brother-via-adoption to Liam named Marvin. James happened to be a werewolf in the area, while Marvin was a fae. Over the years, they teamed up and took down things together, with Evan's funds and assistance.
Honestly, they worked like a family, towards the end of it. Kane has fond memories of coming down to see Marvin or James making breakfast, while Liam took care of the twins. Occasionally Evan would be there. James crushed on Kane wayyyy before Kane ever realized, but that didn't detract from the wholesomeness of the group.
The four of them achieved many things, together, and eventually brought an era of peace by bringing Jonathan back to reality, and eventually saving Samuel, who was more than happy to be reunited with his kids. In this time of peace, Kane received therapy and eventually married James at the age of 25. They adopted a child together, too.
However... not all of the kingdom was pleased with peace being made. A group retaliated, and forcibly made Liam king, using the same form of mind control they'd used on Jonathan. War broke out, this time far more full-blown. Marvin built, with Evan, a battle academy to try and train young and old for fighting, hundreds to thousands died on both sides. Seth became damaged to a point he needed to be mechanically repaired, instead of just a usual surgery.
Despite the hard times, Kane and James did well at raising their daughter. They'd take her to the beach, James would often sing her songs while playing guitar.
Once more, this didn't last. Someone in their last battle had made a tactical error, underestimating how many troops they'd needed. This led to James doing the unthinkable- staying behind to fend on his own while Kane, and others escaped. He was killed in moments.
Just death would have been kind, though. A possessed Liam cast a spell on James, allowing dark magic to possess and use his body. It took advantage of his strength and magical core, keeping it alive despite his actual life being gone. The only way to give him "mercy" would be to respect his name by killing off the body.
Kane would spend the rest of his life from this point hunting down James, while raising his daughter. Marvin helped, but it became too much at times. There were at least two times he considered ending it all. He'd had the pills in his hand, and either needed to look at pictures of Lucille or talk to Marvin to snap him out of it. Despite his misery he did his best with the child. She grew up strong, and even helped in the war.
It was not until the age of 43 that he was able, with the help of Marvin- and the twins- to finally save Liam, and after, put James' body out of its misery. Around that time, Lucille had fully grown up as well, so she'd moved out.
For the next two years, Kane simply resided.. alone, for the most part. He still talked to Marvin off and on, but it was hard for him to really socialize as he used to. The years had worn on him, but.. he was content. He'd done what he needed to do and felt the world didn't need him anymore.
And, well, the world sure thought the same. See... spent at least some of his life working on a time machine with the battle academy's science team. He felt, maybe, just maybe he could fix some things- and he felt now was a time to try it. This didn't send him to the past, though. Or.. it did, but in this world, instead of his own. On Manta Carlos. And now, instead of being 45, he was 18 again. Needless to say he was quite pissed.
Placement tests didn't bode well for him, either- after all, he'd not been in school for at least twenty years- so he placed back in highschool, too.
He could fight to find a way back, but.. for now he's simply given up and chosen to exist here, as he felt that world no longer needed him anyway. Not to say he won't try studying time travel on the side, though.
