The new year meant as the nights warmed a little more, fireflies would be out to play. Shay had always liked fireflies. Not so much catching them as she did watching them, running with them. They were a normal source of magic in the world. The kind you read about in books, that didn't require actual magic.
Despite the New Years party, Shay still followed Klaus on his nightly trips and strayed from him here and there. He was still ticked. Shay didn't think it was at her, but... Either way.
Manta Carlos had an active nightlife, even in the calmer parts of the city and outskirts. Which meant there was still people to watch and interact with in the middle of the night or, as it was now, early morning. So early the sun had yet to come out.
Shay frolicked in the grass, spinning and staring up into the night sky. Laughing until she was breathless and dancing until she didn't feel like she was touching the ground. Night time was her happiest. Below the stars and the moon, where darkness sheeted the land, broken only by rays of moonlight and soft streetlamps.
Eroshay had just calmed down when she noticed a small figure seated on a bench not far away. She approached cautiously. They were alone and still. She sensed no ghost, so she didn't think death, but that didn't stop that from being a possibility.
"Hello?"

There Joseph sat on the park bench, still getting used to the setting he was now put into or forced, though he did not mind being in this new place. Manta Carlos was like something straight out of the television show for him, every new face he meet was like learning about a whole new species, heck he was learning about new species, ones that he had only heard about in forms of fiction such as books or again a television show.
So he wrote down almost everything he saw or anyone he talked to in his note book for future reference. This not only helped with talking to others or to avoid being rude when addressing them, unknowingly that it might be rude to record other info in the first place. But it gave him something to do, something to look back at when he was bored
He noticed Shay before hand dancing around and laughing like she was some kind of crazy person and wonder if she was some kind of nocturnal citizen that had some kinda weird night ritual of some kind. He wrote down what he saw in his note book and was too busy writing to notice Shay approaching him.
As he heard Shays hello he was shocked, yet he froze in place before slowly looking up from his notes." Uhh....... hi h-how can i help you?" he said awkwardly.

Shay smiled lightly when Joseph looked up at her. He was young, she could tell. Not by appearance alone, but mannerisms. Either young or socially awkward. Maybe both. She gave a little wave, stopping short of an arm's length away from him.
"I don't mean to come off rude, or creepy or anything, but aren't you a little young to be out here at night all alone?" And Shay knew how that sounded. If she'd still been living at the orphanage -- oh, Hell, who was she kidding, even now -- she would have been looking for escape routes at this point.
She pointed to the book he was writing in, "also, you might want to consider getting more light. Unless you have some night eye? You look human, but appearances are deceiving around here."

Joesph squinted back at Shay with a slightly opened mouth before shaking his head and returning his expression back into a dull one. He looked at her for a second and then back at his bag which was next to him on the bench, he considered pulling out his blood just incase and thought to him self for a brief moment. She looked tame enough but Joe knew that everything and everyone he meet thus far had a twist, besides he didn't even know who she was and could be some kind of bad person. So little Joe sighed and put his note book to the side and pull his black milk jug out of his bag, opened the cap and stat it next to him.
"Your...... not rude, creepy on the other hand..... maybe a little. The kids at school call me creepy so, its fine. Also..... i'm perfectly fine being out here alone" he said a bit shaky, but not enough for someone to notice. Joseph was indeed a tad bit scared, he always thought of some kind of beast or monster to just jump out of the bushes and try to catch him. But he was more then confident in his own abilities to fend off such a beast if it even happened to him.
When Shay mentioned his writing he quickly closed the note book that sat next to him since he didn't want her to see that he was writing about what she was doing." I don't have any...... night eye? But its fine...... the lamp posts provide enough light for me...... i suppose" he said wondering why in the world she was even talking to him.

Shay snorted and rolled her eyes, placing one hand on a jutted out hip. "Don't mind them. They used to call me creepy, too. Now I'm just nosy. I'm Eroshay, by the by, Eroshay Rosales. Shay, for short."
She noted his bringing out the blackened jug and figured it had something to do with his powers. She was warier at the shakiness in his voice. Cornered people did dangerous things. She took a step back and held up a hand in half surrender.
"Relax. I don't plan on doing anything. See?" She sat to prove her point, putting herself lower than him on the ground. "It's fine. I was just making sure you were okay. I'm only out here because my dad is nearby."

Shay kinda looked silly with her had on her hip, kinda like one of those weird TV shows his mother used to watch. He was quite surprised to hear that they called her creepy, he knew he had just said she was but under other circumstances this exchange seemed pretty normal and she seemed to talk and act pretty normal."Oh that.... sucks i guess.... i try to ignore it and it works most of the time..... people are stupid sometimes.....".
He watched as Shay took a step back and held up her arms and he raised an eye brow.".....Ok, if you don't plan on doing anything then you'll be fine..... so just act like all this isn't there....." he said looking down at her. "...... What..... what are you even doing.... you can stand up right if you want.....".

"Yeeeah," Shay agreed with a slight laugh. Shay could seem pretty normal on the outside, that was until someone got to know her. She had no qualms with acting strangely in public, from eating like an animal to breaking out in song. Whatever worked. Whatever was fun.
Shay dropped her hands, smile turning crooked from awkwardness rather than any form of smug confidence. Joe hadn't read her body language.
"I'm proving that I don't have anything in my hands to attack with," she said before sitting beside him, keeping a slight distance between the two of them.
"You got a name, kid?"
♠♠♠
"Mmmhm.... for all i could know.... you could be some kinda... i dunno.... creepy ghost thing that eats children.... but then again if you were you probably would have eaten me by now..." Joe said lowering his guard a little bit. Maybe she was just some random person who was passing by and decided to talk to the 10 year old boy that was watching people and jotting down notes, yeah this was a totally normal thing do be doing this late at night. But then again this was an island filled with the super natural and everything abnormal was normal in most peoples eyes.
"My name? Well its Blight....." he said in an unsure tone. Joe never gave his name to strangers and usually just used his last name, if that was any better at all."Uhh..... whats yours....". His eyes shifted over for a minute, this was small talk and Joe sucked at it. He sucked at talking in general, but hey at least he tried his best.

"Well, I'm not," Shay laughed. "Otherwise I'd probably have already tried to eat you, no?"
When Blight awkwardly asked what her name was, Shay grinned. She got how that felt -- being awkward. She'd more or less gotten over her own childhood awkwardness. Forced it away, really. Had to, what with being around people constantly.
"I already told you," she teased lightheartedly before answering his question anyway. "Eroshay Rosales. I normally just go by Shay."
She leaned back against the bench and looked out to the night sky. "This isn't normally how I meet people, so I really have nothing to say. Silly me."
