Just a walk....

Xaen pulled his duster on, in spite of the heat. He cast his eyes out over the sparkling surface of the lake, the sun's rays dancing on the clear blue ripples. Breathing deeply, he walks over to the edge and dips his hand in the cool water.

Hmm. Not a bad day out, might as well investigate this place a wee bit.

He thinks to himself as he sets out around the edge of the water. Whistling to himself, he changes the breeze to blow in his face just a little, enjoying the refreshing coolness of it on his skin. Glancing around he sees a few people milling about around the perimeter. Shrugging, he continues walking, his bootheels stirring up the dust in the wind.

Ithen floated on his back in the water, fully clothed. He didn't bother kicking, but simply kept part of his mind on the water beneath him, willing it up to keep his afloat.
The other half of his mond wandered, thinking about his plans for the day, which were the same as yesterday, and the day before, and the day before...
I need some friends, he thought to himself.
Glancing up, he spotted a boy walking on the rim of the lake. Flipping himself over, he swam towards land.
As he pulled himself out of the water, he smiled at the boy and said, 'Hello, I'm Ithen.'

'Hello, I'm Ithen.'

Xaen looked up, the silver flecks of his eyes glinting in the sun. He grinned, and stuck out his had to the boy that had climbed out of the water.

"Hi. Name's Xaen, how're you Ithen?" He glibbed. He was trying as hard as he thought he could to not screw this up. He needed a friend more than most people would realize. His mind was reeling with the prospect of a friend, a friend of any kind, this early in his stay at Starlight.

Cocking an eyebrow, he awaited Ithen's response.

'Pretty good,' he answered, now preoccupied by his wet clothes. He stuck his hands out flat in front of them, and concentrated. Soon all of the moisture from his clothes was concentrated in a large ball in his hand. Tossing in back into the water, he turned once again to Xaen and said, 'I haven't seen you around are you new?'

Nodding slightly, he replied in a quiet tone, "Yeah, it's my first time here, first day, actually." He gave a meek grin, trying still to be kind. "I just kind of decided that taking a walk around the grounds might do me some good, get to know where I'll be for the next little bit of my life, you know?" He went on.

Slowly, he focused some of his energy on slowing the breeze down to a lilting current that barely disturbed the surface of the water.

I wonder what all there is to do around here, with friends, that is? He thought to himself while he awaited Ithen. He blinked quickly, bringing himself back into the present, and back to his present company.

He opened his mouth to respend, then paused. 'No actually I don't.' he cocked his head to one side and sthought, I wonder why that is.... I suppose because I never really think about the future....Oh dear, that's not very good.
A birds call snapped him back to atention. Smiling apoligetically at Xaen he said, 'Sorry, I was having an inner monolgue. So, am I the first student you've met here? Well, I can't be giving a good impression of our school...' He smiled to himself.

Xaen chuckled slightly. "Yes, you are the first student I've actually met. As far as the impression, so far what I've gotten from it is nothing but a kindness. Much more than that, I'd like to experience." He said with a grin. Xaen put his palm up to his chin, and with a quick movement, cracked his neck, with an all too audible "Pop!"

"Ahhh. That's better." he sighed in a smooth, deep tone. "Now, what say we move a bit, so as to not look like silly sots standing here in one place?" He quipped gently.

Ithen grinned, I could used to haning out with him... Nodding his agreement, he started walking along the waters edge in the sme direction Xaen had been heading before. Without looking back to see if he was following, Ithen asked, 'So, what are you powers?'

As Ithen turned, Xaen pivoted, digging his heel into the ground as he stepped off after his new companion.

"My powers? Well, I can screw around with the wind, indoors or out, and I can sort of control the weather. At least, I can make it precipitate or not when I want, I just can't control how strong a rain or snow shower I summon. That part kind of sucks, but yeah." He said in a slightly dejected tone as he pressed his hands forward, pushing a slight wind on their backs that flipped his hair over his shoulder.

Xaen shrugged his hair back over his shoulders as he pulled abreast with Ithen.

'Wow,' he said, a small smile lighting his face. 'Well, I can stop time to some extent. But mostly, as you saw before, I have power over water. But I can't bring it from the sky like you.' He chuckled and said, ''Twas fate that brought us both to the lake on this day. Well, either that or your being new here, and my extreme boredom.'
