The aroma of cooking meat and the sound of classical music filled the home of Aloysius Paltiel. He pulled out a silver bowl which was almost imediately followed by the clacking of feet on the white tiled floor. "Hold on I still have to cut it up," Aloysius turned smiling at his four legged housemate. It was fairly recently that he met and taken in the small wolf pup who came to be known as Zwart. He was on a job when he found him in the woods, sickly and abandoned; he probably would have died if he'd stayed any longer. Needless to say, Aloysius took him to the vet, got him treated, and took him in as a pet after having it confirmed that it wasn't just someone's lost were-baby. He may not be a werewolf but the pup did exhibit signs of being fairly intelligent.

The pup let out an impatient whine as his owner cut up the meat into bite sized pieces and placed it in the bowl and set it on the floor. He left the kitchen and headed into the living room, it was fairly neat save the blue prints lying out on the coffee table along with a mug. He cleared the blueprints off, neatly rolling them up and chugging the cold coffee. He was just about to put the prints away and check on Zwart when there was a knock at the door. A loud knock that prompted the Zwart to skitter out of the kitchen to start yipping at the door. Aloysius put the mug and blue prints down and went to answer the door. There was only one person he knew with a knock like that. He answered the door, "Uncle Ignatius! What are you doing here?"

The dog barked once and trotted up beside his owner. "Shush, you," he said, picking Zwart up.

Ignatius was not blessed with the sense of smell that a werewolf might have, but he was fairly sure that the majority of his senses were a smidge above what a human was really capable of. It made sense (the tyrannosaurus did have excellent sense of smell, hearing, and sight) but he had to wonder if it was really true. He had no way of really knowing what the 'human normal was'. Sight was a bit easier (and he did have very good vision), but there wasn't exactly a test to tell how good you were at smelling things.

He suspected that the smell of cooking meat was one of those smells that was so strong that anyone would recognize it. It didn't exactly smell like fine dining, and Ignatius preferred his meat closer to raw, but meat was meat.

He knocked once at the door, looking perhaps a shade too formal to be dropping by. He'd come from the festival, and Ignatius didn't do 'casual' wear. He looked like he belonged on a high end golf course, with long loose pants and a high quality golf polo.

To say the least, he was surprised to hear barking. Had Aloysius gotten a dog? His face twisted into a scowl that he did his best to hide when the door suddenly opened.

"I was stopping by the school for the club festival. When did you get a pet?" He eyed the dog with a certain amount of suspicion. It didn't even look like a dog. It looked like a wolf.

"Oh, you were just in the area then," he thought it was strange that Ignatius would just drop in unannounced. At least when he called he could toss something on that was a little more formal. He was wearing clothes that said he was staying in to binge watch Netflix. "I got this guy a little a month and a half ago," he placed the wolf back on the ground. In all honesty he probably would have gone to the festival but between the dog, school preparation, and work it had crept up on him. "Come in,he gestured, heading into the living room.

Zwart followed behind his owner energetically, keeping an eye on Ignatius as he took his place on his dog bed. Aloysius would be lying if he said he wasn't caught a bit off guard by the sudden visit. If it was anyone else he probably wouldn't act so formal, but there was a good degree of respect he'd held for his relative. "Can I get you anything? And how was the festival?"

It had been spur of the moment. He hadn't visited much of anyone in his family lately. Even his parents hadn't seen him in more than a month, and he was starting to feel like while he was doing an excellent job with his business, perhaps he'd been slacking a bit on his duties as the head of the family.

A month and a half ago? Which meant either Aloysius hadn't thought to mention his new pet, or he was doing an even worse job at keeping up to date with his relatives than he'd thought.

He wasn't sure which would be worse.

He stepped inside, taking a quick look around. Clean enough. It was fairly obvious that Aloysius cleaned up when he knew he was coming, but he could hardly hold it against him. Aloysius was a young man (although sometimes Ignatius caught himself thinking of Aloysius as a young boy), and he no doubt had better things to do than keep his apartment spotless. A little bit of mess wasn't going to kill anyone, and Ignatius was at least relaxed enough to realize that his work standards were not appropriate family standards.

"No, that's fine. I ate before I went to the festival." His eyes kept sliding back to the dog. Was it even a dog? It certainly didn't look like a dog.

"It was good. About the same as last years, if you went. A few more clubs. A bit more variety. It improves a bit every year." He could only bite his tongue for so long though, and his eyes flipped back up to Aloysius. "What breed is he?" It could be a mutt, he supposed. That was possible. He was far from an expert on dogs, having never had any pet larger than a lizard when he was growing up.

Aloysius couldn't help but smile at that, having attended Starlight, hearing some good news about the clubs made him happy. As for the inquiry about his pet, "Well he's a wolf, as to what kind the vet wasn't sure himself."

He took a seat across from Ignatius, a bit more relaxed now. "Don't worry, I got a bunch of books and he's well trained...mostly," he added. He wondered if Ignatius even had any pets growing up. If he did, they weren't in any family photos. Unless there were albums he hadn't stumbled across. On the other hand, seeing Ignatius as a child in those photos was just strange. He was always this tall imposing figure for as long as he could remember.

"Did you have any pets?" he asked out of curiosity.

A wolf. So he was right. It wasn't a dog. People had stranger pets on the island than a wolf, but he was still somewhat wary. The Paltiel's weren't all that much better than ordinary humans unless they shifted, and while Aloysius no doubt had an easier time of partial shifting then he did, there was still a risk.

"Be careful with it." Him. Maybe he should have said him, but in his head, the wolf was an 'it'. A strange pet at the very least. "Even trained, a wolf is a wild animal." Being more or less a wild animal himself, Ignatius had a healthy respect for how dangerous wildlife could be.

He wasn't expecting him to ask anything about pets, but he did, and Ignatius found himself smiling at the thought. "No. I don't have the time for any. Any pets I had would end up being taken care of by someone else the majority of the time." And a pet like that would hardly be his pet. "I considered getting a reptile of some sort. I have room for a terrarium in my office." Which would not be the sort of pet most people thought of, but would suit his needs the best.

He smiled slightly at the warning he'd received. He was fully aware of the risk of having a wolf for a pet. He was a raptor, instilling the idea that he was the alpha was somehow second nature. He was currently teaching him social skills for being out in public around strangers. "Don't worry, he seems to have taken to me. I did save his life more or less," he shrugged as he glanced over at the little wolf who seemed to be slowly drifting off on his bed.

Aloysius was genuinely surprised when he said he thought about getting a reptile for his office. They were more suited for offices, but the island's big shot dino shifter owning a reptile almost seemed cliche. Thinking about it more he was surprised he hadn't gotten something for the office. Aquariums could work as well. "Well if you do it, you should get a chameleon or a turtle. Fish aren't a bad option either, but I guess they're less fun than reptiles," he rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

As cliche as it was, Ignatius really couldn't deny a certain amount of fondness for what amounted to a very distant (and much smaller) reptilian cousin. Fish were boring, and didn't suit him very well at all. He really couldn't imagine having an aquarium full of fish swimming around. He wouldn't even be able to think of them as pets. No, they'd be more like office decorations.

Ignatius found himself drifting into the living room, and then gestured to the couch. "Shall we take a seat?" It was always a bit of an awkward dance. Technically speaking, Ignatius would take the lead anywhere else (he was the head of the family), but it was still Aloysius's home.

"How is school going?" Fourth year of university. Possibly his last year before he moved out. He knew at least one of his majors was business, but what about the other? Something engineering he couldn't remember the name of. It was obvious enough where Ignatius's own interests laid.

He blinked, almost forgetting where he was for a moment. He was in his own home but Ignatius was the family head. He was so used to his older relative taking the lead on certain things. "Oh! Right, this way," he responded as if in somewhat of a daze. He led Ignatius into the living room, gesturing to the furniture. "Make yourself at home."

He took a seat in his favorite chair across from Ignatius. "School's keeping me pretty busy. The engineering department somehow expects me to top the project me and my team threw together last year," he grinned at the thought of the project. "And I think my business class wants me to shadow a business owner and write a paper somewhere down the road," he said as a sort of warning of things to come. "It probably won't be for a couple months but I figured I'd warn you now, and I'll let you know again when it gets closer," he added.

"Still, after this year it's all over for school," Aloysius couldn't help but feel a little sad about it, but he knew it was just another fact of life.

It was a somewhat precarious social situation, because while Ignatius was certainly the head of the family, he didn't want to simply take control if Aloysius's own house. A man's home was his castle, after all, and he really didn't want to make him feel put out.

He took a seat on a chair, making it look rather small. Aloysius's shift wasn't nearly as massive as his own, which fortunately meant he hadn't inherited Ignatius's massive size. Plenty of people envied him for his size, but Ignatius couldn't say he enjoyed it, no matter how useful it was. It was simply irritating, because everything had to be custom made and adjusted for it.

"Once you succeed, people expect you to continue to succeed in bigger and better ways." That was hardly a school attribute - it was true of everything. "You're always welcome to shadow me as needed. Easy enough to do - I did something similar when I was in school." Shadowing his own father and getting a more exact idea of how the company ran. "Have you given much thought to what you'll be doing after school?" The option of working in his company was always there, as it was for anyone in the family who was at least halfway competent, but plenty chose to go their own way.
