Name: Jui Gwei
Age: 17
Birthday: December 24th
Gender: Female, she/her.
Species: Human.
Category: Student
Class: High School
Grade: 12
Appearance Description:
Jui is short, a little scrawny, and her aura seems to be folded inward on itself. She tends to slouch a lot and walk with her gaze to the ground. She comes off as more the cute, slightly weird/creepy type aesthetically, but she's nothing special or inhumanly attractive, just skimming average.
Eye color: Silvery-pink, ghostly.
Skin color: Sickly pale, flushes/bruises easily due to transparency. A little mottled in places like joints (knuckles, knees, elbows), cheeks, nose, and undereyes due to blood flow. She's also clumsy, so you can expect her to be a little scuffed up.
Hair: Black, sort of navy. Blunt bob and straight bangs. Quite short at chin-length, fluffy, and a little messy. Reflects her distraught nature. A little shorter and more disheveled in the back.
Height: 161 cm, 5'4.
Weight: 105 lbs, 47 kg.
Clothing style: Casual-cute, baggy sweaters and jackets but hates loose pants, or anything that weighs down her legs. Doesn't like skirts either, as she can't sit very comfortably in them. Lots of dark colors with the occasional white shirt or color accent (usually pink, red, or blue) every now and then. Wore pajamas for the last three years, so her clothes are comfy and could pass for sleepwear half the time. Resembles vaporwave a little. She doesn't mix well with formal, classy/chic, or avant garde wear.
Body Type: Narrow shoulders, kind of skinny, flat chested.
Personality Description: Withdrawn, scared, and a little scatterbrained. Nervous on the outside because of her fear of people, but very airheaded and whimsical. No common sense whatsoever, doesn't understand the world because she's never been involved with it, and seems almost alien. Her fear causes her to be paranoid, and because of her social inability she tends to just run from situations she can't deal with and block people out rather than talking it out and resolving issues.
Her presence is like air, and it's hard for her to get people's attention if they have not seen her first. Likewise, if she calls someone's name, it's a little hard for them to hear her unless they can see ghosts/spirits. Her voice will sounds extremely quiet to anyone who can't easily see ghosts.
Worst Memory: She's got a lot to pick from, but it would probably be seeing her father crying as she was taken away.
Best Memory: When her therapist told her she had progressed enough to go to school, followed by a panic attack.
Likes: Space and time for herself, people who respect that she needs that, sweet drinks, fast food, cats, and windows (giant windows or bay windows are her personal favorite.)
Dislikes: Being overwhelmed or bombarded with too many things at once, salty/vegan smoothies.
Weaknesses: She always distances people right after things seems to be going well, the better they go, the more paranoid and stressed out she gets in fear of being betrayed or them finding out what she's "really like" and hating her for it. She never thinks about the people she's hurting when she blocks them out.
Jui tends to zero in and get swept up in the little things that could be very easily resolved if she just thought a little more logically. She also tends to miss out on important issues and other things such as social hints and underlying problems because of this, and is very tiring to deal with. She's also unmotivated to learn more about people and try to overcome her condition.
Jui can't be a leader, nor is she a very good team player, and has a long way to go before she can hold a close relationship, friend-wise or something more.
Needless to say, her odd personality has made her a lot less than popular.
Her magical ability is hardly higher than a average human's, she can't defend herself at all because she's never had any magical training, and would be hard for her even with education because of the unconventional nature of her power.
As said before, she has no common sense or sense of direction. In a real-life situation, she would be very helpless.
Strengths: Even though she gives up easily and can hardly find it in her to try, once she does get started on something she'll give it her all until she either wears herself out or literally cannot go any further. But she has to get started first.
When she manages to get her head in the right direction, Jui is actually good at deducing things because of how closely she pays attention to detail. However, she's usually too busy panicking and needs to calm down before she can think properly.
She's usually overprepared because she knows she's a scatterbrain. This would make her a really good support, should she find someone she could work with.
She's very dedicated to the things she cares about, and puts every inch of her heart into emotional affairs, which is why she overthinks so much and is so afraid of letting herself like others.
Fears: Proximity with people, relationship wise or physically. Wearing exposing clothing. Can't stand being touched. Difficult social situations. Clowns.
Habits/Hobbies: Avoiding everything, from friendships to making eye contact. She's also a messy person. Her clothes come off when she's surprised or whenever she sneezes, which is something she's never been able to fix.
Species Abilities: N/A.
Powers: Clothing manipulation. She can possess and puppet her clothes around much like a doll, at the price of not being in them. This power is usually limited to ghosts like poltergeists, but she inherited them from her mother, who was once a poltergeist but came back to life. The nature of her power in unfitting for a human, and for many years of her life she was unable to control them. After some training, she does have a better handle on her power, but can't move her clothing body as well as she could her own. She can't possess more than one outfit/set of clothes at a time, and they must all be touching one another. She can't control two articles or clothing separately.
Jui can control her clothes within a radius of 1 km, the strength of the connection getting weaker the further they get. If she exhausts her energy trying to control them from further than her limit, she will get very lightheaded and possibly faint. As her clothes stray from her side, they get limper and less agile. She can control them for up to half an hour straight before their strength begins to deteriorate, if she strains them for any longer than an hour she will feel faint and need to rest for a day. Her clothes will trail ghostly pink smoke with a pair of "eyes" that Jui can see through if the clothes have gone beyond her line of sight. This smoke will fade the furhter her clothes travel from her, and her "vision" will also grow weaker. The max. distance she can use her clothing's "eyes" is 500 m.
Jui can also control part of her clothes, rather than separating the whole outfit from her body, with fewer drawbacks. For example, she can control her arms of her sleeves almost indefinitely, because the connection between her body and the clothes is not severed. However, activities that require a lot of strength, such as extending her socks from her feet as stilts, will require a lot more energy and have a significantly shorter time limit. She can't do anything that exceeds her current strength when her clothes are still in contact with her body, and their strength is almost halved when the clothes leave her body unless she is straining very hard.
When she is 'releasing' her clothes, they will fly off her body and be launched a short distance. She can also summon her clothes back to her body by having them fly back, or the reverse, and fly into her clothes as long as they are within 2 km. If her current clothes are destroyed or too damaged to use, Jui can summon another outfit as long as it is within the radius and can get to her. (ex// if her entire closet is locked with no gaps for the clothes to slip out from, she can't summon them.)
When her clothes are being possessed, she is left in her underclothes. The thicker the clothes that are being possessed are, the stronger they are, which is why Jui tries to wear as much as possible.
If Jui is embarrassed, interrupted, or anything else that affects her focus, the connection will be severely weakened or even severed if the clothes are not touching her body. Combat with her power is almost impossible for Jui because of this.
Clothes are floppy, easily cut, burned, or torn apart, and have no strength on their own. But they do have advantages, such as using them as a 'dummy' to evade attacks, and reaching places a heavier being could not. Her clothes can slip through thin cracks, fly in the wind, fall long distances with little to no damage, and climb fences/buildings with ease. With enough training, they could even wield weapons.
All her limits can be increased through training.
Additional Information: Jui is a difficult character that I expect to undergo a lot of character development. Her issues are akin to social anxiety, but she is working through them.

Jui's mother was a weak poltergeist with similar powers to Jui. She could barely survive in her realm so she used Jui's father as a ticket to the human world, becoming human herself through an unlawful contract. It was after Jui was born that he found out that not only was he used, she was planning to sacrifice Jui as well for more power and status.
But she had grown to love him. and he loved her, so they tried to make it work. But since ghosts were dead, they had already lost their humanity when they crossed over the first time. Jui's mother tried to be human, she tried to remember what it was like to feel and laugh and love.
But she couldn't do it. She was already losing her mind.
This made for a tough childhood.
Her classmates made fun of her for being abnormal. Between her mess of a family and her ghost lineage, she had a lot of secrets to keep. The one time she trusted her secrets with someone else, the news spread all across the school and she was humiliated, as everyone thought she was just some kind of attention-seeking liar. So she started lying for real. Even when things just got worse, and her mother only got more violent, she'd shrug it off with a smile and a joke. But as the years passed, her jokes got darker and darker and her lies started getting more desperate.
Everyone realized what was up and she was reported to the principal for inappropriate and concerning behavior. It was then that she broke down.
Jui was eventually taken away by child services at the age of thirteen and couldn't deny it any more. Her life was a mess and no human being could ever understand her and still like her despite how messed up she was.
After her counselors suggested she take a leave from public school after seeing how her mental state had deteriorated, she spent the next three years taking online courses and being cooped up in her new room in the group home she was now living at. Jui didn't leave her home, and hardly left her room.
Having no friends, she started a flame twitter to vent about her life. It was just petty indirects about her classmates at first, but then it really got rolling into a mess of humor and rants. The internet was her only outlet. Because of this, her real-life self and online character started to separate. The things she thought but was too shy to say, she could broadcast online, through her account 'Ghost Writer'.
It was almost like she died. Her classmates forgot she existed. The world forgot her face, no one could put a name to it anymore. It was like Jui had ceased to exist.
After these three years, she was told she had to come back for senior year and that it was unhealthy for her to have gone for so long. After the news that she'd been signed up for therapy, she threw a fit and blocked her door for two weeks.
Somehow, by causing malicious mischief online and living as if she were dead, this had brought her closer to her poltergeist side. That's when the clothes flying off started to happen. Jui refused to leave her room, but sooner or later her caretakers found out when there was a sleeve waggling about from underneath her door. A few days after, they mysteriously got a call saying that she'd had a quick therapist change, one that understood Jui's situation and could help. She was an empath that had graduated from SA herself, both working as a regular therapist and a scout for distressed teens with potential powers.
Somehow, over the next few weeks they managed to slowly drag her out. First she wouldn't step foot in the hall. The next week she wouldn't go near the front door. Step by step, over a few months, she made it to the car, into some decent clothes, and into the therapist's office... wearing a stuffed animal head.
It took another month for her to even consider wearing a regular face mask, since she didn't want anyone recognizing her or to be able to see her face when her clothes inevitably had a mishap again.
Even after they managed to get her out and about, there was the issue of talking. Jui could manage simple words, but found it hard to express herself with the disparity between her shyness and her inner self, not to mention the crippling fear of people she had developed.
Her therapist had already dealt with many others like Jui and after some training to stabilize her powers, referred her to SA, a place where she was confident that Jui would be accepted and find her way.
And so, Jui started on her way to Starlight Academy, on her way to hone her magical skills and to reconnect with the world.
Notes: Her father is presently in jail for "assisted child abuse", even though it was an unfair sentence. He doesn't know of Jui's powers, but does know that Jui's mother is a poltergeist. He's never told anyone and doesn't feel the need to.
Her mother has mysteriously disappeared, making headlines, and they have ceased to search for her, believing she is dead.
Jui's caretakers have had their memory wiped and just think that Jui's going to boarding school.
