Appearance Description
Joan is awkward, shy and completely spineless. It's a wonder how she even became a senior makeup artist in the film industry, but she is skilled and experienced. For a woman that's almost 30, she is insecure and hates confrontation of any kind. Thus, she’s completely hopeless at romance and dating, and she's often mocked for never having a boyfriend and its other implications. If anything, she could be praised for her intelligence, thoughtfulness and kindness, but not much else.
As Stone Snake, she becomes a carnal, almost sadistic monster: the very definition of pervert that takes pleasure in humiliating her victims. As Stone Snake, she takes on a sassy, sarcastic and over-confident alter ego, though she does retain one aspect that she shares with the cowardly Joan: she hates confrontation and would prefer to slither away if threatened.
Powers
Biography
The origin of Joan’s curse starts in the Trojan War. The priest Laocoön attempted to uncover the ruse of the Trojan Horse, and as a result he and his sons were punished by being attacked by sea serpents. His wife herself was punished by being turned into a Gorgon, so some say. In her grief and anger, she slaughtered the snakes that killed her husband and sons, and ate their flesh. In her fury against humanity, she gained supernatural powers by devouring both the blood of the serpent and man.
She settled in Minoa, enslaving men before eating them. The children that she bore shared the same supernatural power she did. They did not become Gorgons, but they still kept the power she gained from Laocoön’s serpents.
After her death, her children made their way to the Frankish Empire. There, they were persecuted for worshipping the idol of the Snake Goddess. The Church cursed the family, and (with God’s will) caused them to forcibly become monsters at night, so that the world could look upon their ugly form. They burned the family at the stake once they exposed them to the village. The only two that escaped were brother and sister, and they lived a life in exile, shunning humans once more.
Things are very different now for the Linde family. They live peacefully in Provence, in the South of France. Joan has lead a normal life, but her cursed form at night causes social problems for her. Her family itself has a history of crime and sexual deviancy, which lead Joan to lead a very unassuming and cowardly exterior in her everyday dealings, in hopes that nobody would become so interested in her that they wanted to see her after dark.
Makeup was one of her passions, as it allowed her to pretend to be someone else. She started her career in bridal makeup, but she was shouted at by so many Bridezillas, she had to cowardly slither away and resign. That was how she got into makeup for film and television. The people there were much nicer, and she was allowed to be a little more creative.
At twenty-five, she moved to the Manta Carlos islands, working on location for independent films. She thought that people might be a little more accepting of her cursed form, but letting her monstrous state out of the house had serious repercussions. With the cursed form came uncontrollable carnal urges, and Joan shunned it so much, she created an alter ego for her form in order to distance herself from thinking about it too much.
That was the story of how she became an infamous villainess, without even knowing it.

Appearance Description

Joan has a comely and humble appearance, for someone in her line of work. She is the complete antithesis of glamorous: with big, bushy light blonde hair that she has to tame back into low ponytail, a fuzz of two ashy dots for eyebrows and a faint smattering of light freckles on healthy skin that is a nod to her Southern French upbringing. Her sense of style is very subdued, preferring solid and drab colours. Her body is feminine and well-formed, but she often hides it with boxy or oversized shirts and sweaters. She stands at 5’5.
She has wide clear, green eyes with long and thick eyelashes, framed by round silver spectacles. Her lips are full and fleshy, though they are prone to cracking. The most makeup she would apply on a daily basis would be chapstick, concealer and mascara.
As the villainess Stone Snake, her appearance does a literal 180. Her hair is weighed down by secreted venom and takes on a permanently tousled and wet look. The venom makes her hair appear darker and ashier. The sclera of her eyes turn black and her irises are surrounded by a faint gold ring. She uses heavier makeup for her ‘mask’: a smokey cat eye with nude lipstick, medium coverage foundation, and groomed eyebrows. She wears a skintight dark bodysuit, preventing the venom in her skin and sweat being excessively secreted while showing off the fullness of her body.

Powers
The Curse of Laocoön’s Gorgon
Joan is allowed to possess human form in the daytime, with no powers to speak of. After twilight, she assumes her cursed form with dark sclera and venomous secretions that appear in her sweat, saliva and body chemistry, giving her skin a subtle, reptilian sheen. Her fangs and ability to use venom become active.
Laocoön’s Venom: Stone Snake can secrete venom from her skin, but its effects will be diluted. The best way to deliver venom to someone would still be using her fangs to bite them. Symptoms of poisoning are sluggishness, shortness of breath / asphyxiation and decreased energy. Direct contact with venom involves inflammation and blistering of the skin, and bite wounds can become necrotic if not treated. Shooting venom into someone's eyes can cause temporary blindness for up to five minutes, and she can spit venom from as far as seven away meters, becoming less accurate the further away the target is. Thankfully, fatality is rare, occurring in only 5-10% of her cases.
Basilisk Paralysis: If Joan can keep her gaze focused on someone for three seconds, they become unable to move their body willingly. They are still able to blink, talk and perform involuntary body movements like breathing or sweating, but are unable to move from their position or move their limbs or joints. Stone Snake then cannot blink if she wants to keep her victim under body paralysis. This can be anywhere from six seconds to two minutes. In favorable conditions (enough humidity to prevent eyes from drying out, little to no distractions), she can stare for as long as six minutes. A poisoned target that has her venom in their bloodstream would find that they will be immobilized longer, depending how much venom is in their system.
Gorgon’s Gaze: Stone Snake’s signature move. If she stares into her target's eyes and they make direct eye contact with her for more than ten seconds, they turn into stone. Any damage taken to the statue will be done to the person if they are released from their petrified state, but luckily the stone is extremely durable. The ability is non-lethal, but can be reversed by either a combination of common snake antivenoms or venoms, or by spilling the tears of a good-aligned mythical creature onto the afflicted. The tears of a loved one of the victim are also effective in reversing petrification.
General Weaknesses
+ Snakes don’t belong in Alaska. Joan and Stone Snake are both susceptible to cold conditions and lose energy very quickly when the weather is under 6°C. She extremely poor at regulating body metabolism. Adding layers to an already cold snake won’t help, and the best way to prevent shock would be to find an external heat source.
+ Possibly because of the story around her power’s origins, Joan has an innate phobia of equines. Centaurs, unicorns, pegasi and other horse-like creatures tend to make Joan retreat from battle immediately upon seeing them.

General Weaknesses
+ While Stone Snake has better eyesight than Joan in that she does not require glasses, she has exceedingly poor vision capabilities. She’s barely able to recognize facial features or distinct details, and perceives her surroundings as shapes. Think the difference between early video game polygons versus high definition.+ Snakes don’t belong in Alaska. Most of her villainy comes from theft, sexual misconduct, sexual assault, breaking and entering and indecent exposure. Her main motive, or ‘sick hobby’ is humiliating people and putting compromising photos of them online. She has become so successful that she has started a request-based system on a social media account for a fee. Her clients are comprised mostly of revenge porn victims that want to humiliate and tear down their attackers.
