Face:
Janelle is a girl of African American and Japanese descent with a rounded face. Her light brown eyes are monolid, and she has short eyelashes. She has a somewhat androgynous look that, if not for the rest of her body, she could come off as a young boy. Her narrowed eyes and furrowed eyebrows frequently give the constant look of sizing people up and asking for a fight. Just like she likes it.
Voice:
Janelle speaks with a harsh, blunt tone that many could say is "trying too hard." It's obvious she's forcing herself to sound worse and scarier than she is. At the same time, she talks like any moment she's going to spiral into a long monologue about the meaning of friendship and the battle against love and happiness, and how she will defend it with her life.
Body:
Janelle has caramel skin and a rounded, but fit, body. She loves P.E. and her physical activity shows from the subtle muscles she has. She is also very curvy, and if not for her height and the childish way she displays herself, she could be mistaken to be in her later teens.
Hairstyle:
Janelle has a fro-hawk, with the base being her natural dark brown hair color, and the afro part being blonde. She very rarely wears any accessories, but when she does, they're cutesy animals or hairbands.
Clothing:
Janelle always wears some kind of punk clothing with a pastel theme. A spiked jacket, spiked collar, boots that make her taller, piercings (ears, lips, stomach), and anything else that makes her look like a "terrible delinquent" with a cute theme. She loves having bunnies on her clothes and it's not hard to find some kind of bunny theme on her.
Personality
Otaku:
Janelle loves anything related to Japanese pop culture. She keeps up with most current anime and manga, has joined many fan clubs, and is planning on starting up a club at the school regarding her interests. Janelle is also an avid member of social media. She is now restarting her social media life on the internet as a "normal human" to the Narrow Reality, and as much more to Manta Carlos. She has multiple social media websites, ranging from Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter. Somehow, she's able to just keep up with it. You can always see her with her phone in hand checking up on her webpages or if there's a new chapter of a manga she's following. Funnily enough, Janelle has never visited Japan, and while she knows Japanese, most of her knowledge comes from her Japanese mother.
"Delinquent":
Calling Janelle a delinquent wouldn't be correct, but it wouldn't be wrong either. She's like to play herself up as a delinquent. As the baddest bitch around. She's not, and she's terrible at it. Janelle regularly lies or exaggerates stories about herself to create the illusion of herself being a scary and amazing figure that should be admired. These lies are pretty easy to tell, ranging from, "I've smoked all kinds of cigarettes," to, "I regularly beat up criminals and give their belongings to the poor who need them more." The most delinquent thing Janelle does is maybe skip a class occasionally by calling in sick or doing her homework the day before she needs to turn it in.
Intelligent:
Janelle is actually very book smart. She studies hard in hopes of becoming a doctor with the use of her healing abilities. Despite this, school has tired her out immensely. She still works hard, but not as hard as she used to, and finds herself exhausted to depression when the subject of school comes up. If you took a look of her grades, you could see that she's barely passing, with P.E. being the subject she has genuinely good scores in. The only thing that keeps her from skipping school entirely and dropping out is the chance that she'll be a doctor.
Outside of school and physical activity, Janelle isn't at her best. She can be kind of a ditz in this way, with her sometimes missing obvious clues, especially social clues. That's not to say she's not good at socializing, but she has a habit of letting her "bad girl" attitude get in the way of her relationships and other activities, making her look dumb.
Biography
Janelle comes from an alternate universe where heroes and villains with superpowers are common knowledge. She was raised in Halcyon City with her mother Naomi Thompson and her father Michael-Jermaine Thompson. Inspired by her retired magical girl mother and the shows she watched, Janelle dedicated herself to be the 14-year-old Magical Sukeban Charlotte-Chan: defender of love and friendship in Halcyon City. Soon after she found herself a group of teenagers who shared her passion (in different, less embarrassing way). These members included Adrastia (the leader), Jude (the plan maker), Kaiju (the heavy hitter), and Blade (the combat expert). This team was called the Defiant. Through this team, she was determined to become a popular icon for all to admire. In fact, she even found a fanbase online that followed both her and her team, which she loved every minute of.
One of the biggest secrets the Defiant had was the existence of the Gultha, extra-dimensional gods which had come to earth following the fleeing Ijians. Linked to this was Giltenn, a Gultha that Jude bonded with.
All of those secrets backfired spectacularly when one of the greatest heroes in the city attempted to kill Jude's father under the mistaken assumption that he was threatening their team. Giltenn fusing with Jude prevented Jude from dying, but doing so did reveal almost all of Jude's secrets, and very nearly got he and his teammates confined for life. Eventually, they were allowed to return to superheroics under the watchful eyes of the most important superhero team in the city, observed at all times.
But things were rapidly going from bad to worse. The Gultha were beginning to manifest, with every available hero beginning an escalating campaign of attempts to stop the Gultha from tearing the world in half. Even throwing everything they had at it, the effort wasn't enough, and the world itself began to fail, the threat of being consumed entirely looming.
While the battle was never truly called, it became obvious before long that the battle was no longer sustainable. In an attempt to spare at least some, one of the greatest wizards in the world created a portal to another world, a way for those remaining to flee. While most of the adults stayed behind, Charlotte and his friends either went through on their own, or were pushed through, winding up in Manta Carlos to await whoever else would be able to escape.
In particular, each found themselves near their closest living alternate-reality relative. In Janelle's case, it was her mother Naomi, living on Manta Carlos. With Janelle having trouble considering Naomi her real mother and not wanting to replace her biological one, she decided to live with the school.
Active Abilities
Illusions - Janelle can create powerful illusions that can affect the 5 classic senses. Best to worst would be sight, hearing, touch, smell, then taste. Her illusions only extend to her general proximity, being a large room at best. Once she leaves that area, her illusions will immediately disappear. Her illusions are strong enough to make a group of people look and sound different or make a group of people hear things that aren't there. Affecting more than one person is much more of a strain on her, so Janelle can only affect around 5 people at a time. Janelle can only feasibly cause illusions for a couple of senses at a time. When she tries to affect more than 1-2 senses, what she can do with those senses are extremely limited.
Weapon Summoning - Janelle can summon a scepter and 10-foot chain, which can increase to up to 40 feet when targetting something. This chain can be used like a whip, tie people up, and break through walls. Her scepter can shoot out beams and balls of light that are enough to knock back a person roughly and break through thin steel. Her beams last for 5 seconds, then need 30 seconds to recharge. She can create 3 balls of light before needing to recharge for a minute. Janelle can combine this scepter and chain to be used as a flail.
Flight - Janelle has the ability to fly at 20 miles per hour. When she flies, becomes a pink and purple being of pure light and sparkles that leaves a trail that extends several feet behind her.
Healing - Janelle can use her light magic to heal severe external wounds, ranging from minor scratches and bruising to deep gashes in the body.
Magical Sukeban Charlotte-Chan Transformation Sequence - Janelle has a second form that only gives her a change in aesthetic. This transformation takes about a 30 seconds, and in the meantime, she becomes pure indestructible pink, purple, and yellow light. Anyone who touches her form and is not immune to light magic will be severely burned. Charlotte cannot move in this form, and to those viewing from the outside, she would be breakdancing.
Her hair becomes longer and turns pink with a purple gradient at the tips. Her left eye becomes light yellow with a hot pink heart pupil, and her right eye is hot pink with the pupil is a light pastel yellow symbol and the sclera being black. A pink heart-shaped eyepatch covers her right eye. She is given a pink hairband with bunny ears that stick up perfectly straight. A pink mask covers her mouth which can change into various types of cutesy emoji mouths with the nose shaped like a heart.
Her clothes are extremely reminiscent to sukeban. Her top is ripped to bare her midriff, which has a pink piercing on her belly button, and two white piercings on each side. Her top is light pink with hot pink highlights. Her skirt is a dark gunmetal color that comes right above her ankles, with the waistband being hot pink. Lastly, she wears rolled down socks under light pink sneakers with one hot pink heart on the outside.
Weaknesses
The Power of Despair - All of Janelle's powers are powered by hope, love, and friendship. Immense despair will leave her powerless at best, and her powers permanently twisting into a corrupted version of themselves fueled by anger, grief, and hatred at worst.
Darkness - Janelle's powers are fueled by light magic. As such, magic fueled by darkness makes her offense and defense only half as effective.
Non-Fatal - Janelle cannot use her powers to kill others, and this extends to her a person. She was immense difficulty doing anything that could fatally wound people. If you gave her a gun and told her to shoot someone, she would have trouble even lifting that gun if she was completely sure she could shoot a completely non-fatal area of the body. She would need immense willpower to do anything with the intention to kill.
