Late November 2016.

Honestly, Invidia had put this off for weeks. It was really, truly about time he stopped being such a wuss, suck it up and just ring the damn phone. Last time he really just wanted to go there and ring the door bell but probably waltzing in the Rosales' places wasn't the best thing he should do. He didn't think he could actually face either Klaus or Vito yet; he'd probably freak out and bolt.

So really, the best option was to... try to talk with Shay first? She'd given him her phone number and the number to the house during the protest with the DSU but they didn't really quite get a proper conversation out--not to mention how he was being stupid awkward that day. Still, he was really nervous about her dads answering the phone instead. So. He went with the next best option. It didn't really quite involve standing near their heck of a house, no, but that was a tiny detail to worry about.

Taking a deep breath, he dialed Shay's number on his phone, waiting for a response while he just watched their place from afar.

Shay answered the phone and heard a distinctly male voice on the other line. "You've got me," she said, trying to figure out who it was. It didn't take long for her to give up on that particular pursuit. "May I ask who's calling?"

She expected some rando to be calling her. Maybe some guy from the underworld who had heard rumors about her? Shay wasn't exactly sure what those rumors were, but apparently, they were funny.

"I don't recognize the voice calling."

For a second, Vidi frowned when Shay had told his voice she couldn't recognize him until he remembered one detail he should have considered earlier. Right, Shay doesn't know I swap out with this side.

VIdi sighed softly, though not quiet enough that Shay would have heard it over the phone all the same. "It's Invidia," he said, "Before you say anything... it's just that sort of day. But it's me."

Vidi found himself hesitating for a bit, reconsidering his decision while he drew circles on the ground with his foot. He really shouldn't, he told himself, he was already on the phone. He might as well. "Sorry, I didn't call earlier. It was... nerves. But I wanted to talk. Is this a good time?"

It's just that sort of day, didn't make much sense to someone who couldn't switch biological genders, but Shay shrugged it off. "Wasn't going to say anything," she replied, unable to keep the amusement from her tone.

Hearing the hesitation in his voice had Shay sobering up. She stood from her desk, ruffling some homework as she did so, and sat on the edge of her bed. "Of course. Schedule cleared. Did you want to talk on the phone or meet up? Can be a public place, if you prefer, or you're free just to come on over here."

Shay wanted to see him because seeing him meant she could watch his body language, ensure that it really was just nerves and he wasn't afraid. He sounded worried, but she knew nerves could cause fear. Shay shook her leg, hoping none of her own jitters showed in her voice.

Vidi heard the way she said that and had to roll his shoulders so it wouldn't make him any more self-conscious than he already was. At the back of his mind he told himself he could just leave the place and just stay on the line, except phone conversations weren't his strongest suit.

"A-about that..." A beat, "I might be.. kinda... sorta already outside your house." The way his tone curled at the end made it sound like he was asking instead of stating. He didn't really feel strange about being outside the house because it felt creepy -- not that it even crossed his mind. It was more of that... this was the Rosales' house and that only meant there were chances he could run into Klaus or Vito and his heart wasn't ready for that yet. "We could go somewhere else though, I... I'm kinda not ready to run into y-your dads yet. If that's fine with you."

Shay's brows furrowed. She stood up and looked outside her window, but didn't see Vidi, it was a large mansion after all. "That makes things easier," she said, rather than freaked out and throwing the phone as she should have. Shay was used to creepy.

"It's cool. They're busy right now, anyway. At the warehouse. I'll open the front door, give me a second." With that, Shay hung up the phone and ran downstairs to open the front door, out of breath when she did, afraid he might have lost his nerve and ran off if she took too long.

"Come on in!" She ushered Vidi into the mansion and upstairs to the first place she thought to bring him, her room. She kept the door propped open. "Not allowed to have boys in my room with the door shut," she explained.

Eroshay's room was very.... pink. That was the first thing to come to mind. It was pink and girly and in a state of controlled disarray. She had star lights hanging on the wall, and her bed was built into a small alcove. She had cute pictures of her family and friends arranged into a large heart on one wall and several shelves of stuffed animals.

Shay blushed, glad, at least, that her crush closet wasn't visible at first glance.

"Soooo....."

At the mention of her dads being busy, Vidi had to breathe a havy sigh, like he'd been holding his breath for longer than he thought he could. The line was cut right before he could add anything else so he was left to stare at the screen of his phone with the call dropped. He didn't have to wait too long thankfully and Shay turned up to meet him, greeting her back with a sheepish wave.

So staring at the mansion from outside was one thing but actually walking in made him feel a little small; maybe it was him being utterly used to small enclosed spaces or something else. His eyes wandered about as she lead her back upstairs to her room. "I could think of a million reasons why you shouldn't have the doors shut with any guests," he seemed to mutter to himself before he stepped in.

To say he was blinded by the color wouldn't be so much of a stretch. Vidi's room was the complete opposite of Shay's so it was really a shock for his vision. Now that he thought about it, he hadn't really been to other people's rooms. His eyes seemed to linger on the photos on the wall before it settled on the stuffed animals and back to Shay when she spoke again.

Vidi was... standing rather awkwardly near the door, scratching the back of his neck. A sigh. "Naturally, I have no idea how to start this. Which is why I didn't want to call earlier until now."

On the one hand, Shay did genuinely want to help Vidi and be there for him. On the other, he was really fucking attractive, and Shay had a thing for grumpy faces which she was desperately trying to ignore right now. Her face was a hint red, despite the confidence she portrayed.

She moved over to him and gently took his hand to steer him toward... uh, her bed, and sit him on the edge. Shay backed off rather quickly to sit across from him in her computer chair, smile wavering a little. A nervous tick.

It was going to be extremely hard to focus on him when he looked like this. Oof. Shay was normally more in control of these things, at least, that was what she liked to believe. Being a teenager sucked and the hormones had only just begun. Shay looked around and held up a finger to him.

She took a particularly fluffy stuffed animal and handed it to him. "Start by holding this up in front of your face."

Vidi didn't seem to find anything particularly odd about Shay leading her to sit on her bed, but the look on her face when she moved to the computer chair earned her a raised eyebrow from the demon. His eyes narrowed at her inquisitively, as if trying to figure out what was on her mind all while being completely oblivious to the effect he had.

The stuffed toy only made less sense to him when Shay handed it to him. He stared at the doll for a second, attempting to smother the urge to snuggle the doll and just distract himself with it than actually talk. He raised the doll, up to his face as asked, "I don't really know what's the point of this. What's this for?"
