"It Was Me..."

Emptyness is always good...If something is empty, no one is there. Nothing is there. Nothing can happen.

She opened the door. It was totally dark, save the silvery moonlight that streamed through the open window. The curtains were flickering in the breeze, or...they would be if the window was open...

Her heart jumped. She had never believed in ghosts, although this very School was proof that extraordinary and preternatural things were real. But here, in this room, the very walls seemed to throb with life...or afterlife...whatever it was. There was an essence that floated through the room, surrounding her, catching her voice...The vision in her eyes blurred slightly, so she didn't see the cloud manifesting itself in the corner...

But she did notice the blood that was dripping from the walls...

"I have to get out of here..." she thought frantically, her mind in a blur. The icy essence of the ghost clawed at her. Had. To. Get. Away!

She was out in the hallway in a heartbeat, sweat dripping down her neck. A footstep. She jumped...

Then the sound of odd laughter as a piece of wood broke off of the floor and floated in front of her.
A smooth, wry voice behind her.
"Hah. You really do believe in ghosts, don't you?"

Judas laughed.
"Heh. One day I'll know how it feels? Then I'll just laugh at this spirit of the dead and interrogate it. I'd like to know what happens after."
Judas smiled.
"I hope you really wish that the afterlife doesn't consist of us wandering around our old homes and spooking people. How droll."

"Oh!" was all Noliana could utter for a time. "Oh!" It was all a trick. But...the blood...

She peered into the room. There was none. She should have known better. She hadn't been able to smell it. It was all an illusion, surely...

"Umm..." She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "Sorry...I must have...screamed or something. You must think I'm dumb..." What did she care anyway, what people thought? Still...the two of them looked nice enough...even if the boy...

"Do you have telekinetic powers then?" she asked him.

Judas smiled, the piece of wood floating to him and then bursting into flames by itself.
"Perhaps...More of a curse, but it can be amusing at times, and highly destructive. I do hope I didn't scare you, but there's nothing better than a good scare to get one's blood stream going. Honestly in a place like this with so many odd people with odd personalities and odd powers, nothing is supernatural."

"Of course..." Noliana said dumbly, her tongue tripping over the words. "But powers are not always for good, right?"

She was calmer now. It was the blood that had scared her. And that had either just been her imagination or this boy's powers. It hardly mattered. It was all in her head.

Judas smiled, nodding patiently.
"Quite correct, quite correct. I hope I didn't scare you too badly. Don't be frightened of such things, my dear classmate. As a member of the academy, be scared of nothing but death. And the dead cannot harm the living."

"It's the living you have to watch out for..." she said, almost to herself. "Look...I should go. It was...nice talking to you..." She turned to go. She hated the Academy, everything...stupid unpredictable powers and unpredictable weirdos...she was better off in the Center.

Right?

Judas peered at her.
"Quite correct, quite correct. Tell me, are you new to the academy? I haven't seen your face here. I didn't mean to frighten you too badly."
