"I truly meant what I said about not worrying about anything, and figuring things out," she told him, hoping he fully understood that she was serious about that - and about what she had promised him that day at the pool about not being dispensable and needing him around.

Everyone was throwing offers, and it was very clear what exactly Rory was indicating.

"Alright alright," Angelo said. "Everyone scoot outside, but I have to talk to Broen myself."

He gave Jude a little push, and off he went with only a quick glance behind them.

He'd wait until everyone else was out, the door closed behind them before he approached, standing just at the foot of the bed.

"Everyone else is dealing with all your... other stuff," Angelo said with the vaguest of waves of his hand. "But I'm the one who shot you, so I'm the one who screwed that up. I've got rooms at the house, and if you want, you can come stay there. Doesn't have to be permanent. Doesn't have to be a big thing. We've got rooms to spare, and it'd probably keep everyone a lot calmer if they knew you weren't bleeding out on the ground somewhere because you'd reopened your stitches doing something stupid like getting out of bed."

There was a pointed look to Broen's side.

"They're not going to let you out for at least a few hours, but I figure we'll stick around no matter what you decide and get some food. I don't think Jude had lunch, and I doubt you did either."

Broen wasn't sure what Angelo wanted to talk about, but being alone made him distinctly nervous. Imagine that. He gave a nod to everyone as they left.
"Generous fucks... I-"

"I'll be fine, Scoutmaster. I've dealt with shit like this before. I know how to pack a wound and sew it up right. And if I'm being honest? I don't want charity."

He stopped and chewed over his own thoughts for a while. Considering the things that Angelo had said. "Thanks, though."

Sitting up slightly, he turned so that he was facing Angelo more directly. "You did the right thing. The Headmaster... it was gonna whisk me away somewhere I wouldn't be found. Probably fuckin' eat me to keep itself alive. And then it'd start preying on all the kids here. I don't know what those fuckin' bullets are, but they did the damn trick. So, thank you for that, too."

Broen laughed. He was rambling now. "Lose my powers, get all my emotions back. What a fuckin' trade. That toxic sludge idea might not be so bad. Though this ain't Halcyon, so it might just kill me. Probably deserve it though. No good deed goes unpunished, right?"

God, what was it with people and charity? Angelo rolled his eyes, giving a wave of his hand.

"Doesn't matter if it was the right thing in retrospect. What mattered was if it was the right thing to do in the moment. Knowing what I did then? Probably not. But I went with Jude's judgement, even if I should have asked more questions."

He'd already got an earful from that. He deserved the earful.

"And for the record, it's not charity. It's peace of mind, so that I don't have to worry about Rory and them running over hell's half-acre to make sure you're doing alright. But it's up to you, just as long as you've got a place to sleep tonight. Door's open either way."

Broen sighed and looked directly up at the ceiling. It wasn't hard to say anymore. He used to say it all the time when he first got kicked out. But the way the school had tampered with him... he didn't care enough to let people know. Mayor Frederick Fucking Crawford was a piece of shit. Gallant was a fuckin lie.

"You don't wear shitty full plate, do you?" He laughed harder than before, and then realized that it did in fact hurt to do that.

Angelo was being serious. Good and serious. And while he cracked a grin at bitchin' scar, he couldn't manage to keep it together for squeaky clean rep.

"God, the kid hasn't told you anything about me, has he?" He said with a laugh. "Well, offers there anyway," he added. At least Broen seemed better.

"I'm going to go let everyone back in, and then I'm going to go get some food. Make sure everyone's fed and watered before I get Jude and co back home."
