Private Is It Okay To Meet A Person In The Woods?

The air was cool, the sun was high, and Vlad had found the perfect tree branch to lounge in. The woodland creatures that hung around these parts would occasionally land around him and break the stillness of his composure but the songs and noises they provided simply added to the perfection of the scenery.

It had been a hard week for him given the amount of extra homework he was receiving from his teachers. His masters had been adamant on ensuring all sections of his schoolwork was complete before he could train in any regard. On top of all that his body was now sore from all the practice, he had to catch up on earlier in the morning. Needless to say, he really needed this moment right now and was happy for the weekend's fast approach.

Yawning , he looked down at the forest floor. He'd left his duffle bag down there unattended but was confident no squirrel would be interested in stealing his math homework.....he hoped. Saying a squirrel ate his work probably wouldn't work at all. The real reason for his consistent peaking was to make sure no one from the monastery decided to hide his stuff again. Having dealt with enough pranks from his fellow followers he was now always alert when he took his breaks. With an elongated stretch, he scoped the surrounding area, looking for anything strange or peculiar.

That something interesting wasn't too far off. Bastet, trailed not far behind by a serpent made of dirt and a pair of golden eyes that came from her shadows, were exploring the forest at their leisure. What for? "So, you often come here to get some thrill out of exploring a possibly dangerous site?", the serpent asked, hissing lightly. "Pretty much. I miss my time doing missions for Oni Odori.", Bastet responded.

What do you know it didn't take long for something peculiar to pop up. A person and....something. He couldn't quite make what it is was responding to the person as they marched themselves through the woods. It immediately crossed his mind that this could be some illusion to distract him or play with his mind, but he felt instilling paranoia wasn't the goal of the monastery.

Rather than approaching the approaching situation like a maniac he simply called out "Afternoon down there!" with a small wave and friendly smile. People rarely wandered this close to the monastery unless they were heading there. Vlad had made a point of knowing nearly every face in the monastery and this person definitely wasn't familiar.

They both stopped and looked around for the source of the voice, although the eyes in Bastet's shadows were quick to focus on Vlad, and Bastet herself was second to only her own shadow. "Afternoon up there!", Bastet waved up to him, "Do you like adventuring in here too?". Not long following that, the eyes in Bastet's shadows disappeared, soon to reappear from the shadows cast by a branch upon Bastet's shoulder. From there appeared... A black cat. Looked like a normal cat, but to simply "warp" around meant it was not normal at all.

"Wouldnt really call it an adventure." Vlad dropped down from the branch onto the forest floor where the snapping sound of twig filled the forest orchestra of noise. He didn't know this girl or her strange cat and as weird as it sounds to rob people in the forest it had occurred far too many times to other people to not be wary.

Vlad stood in front of his duffle bag as he fixed his pants. A little bit of dirt had clung but e figured it'd come out easy. "I know the area pretty well so I come around this place a lot." He raised a curious eyebrow at the cat shadow thing that followed the girl but didn't make a big deal of staring at it, he'd seen weirder.

" Whats brought you out this far? Just sightseeing?"

"So I guess it's more of a leisure walk or a scouting then.", the dirt serpent hissed gently those words and periscoped to stay at better eye level with him. "I don't know as much as I wish, so every now and then I come to explore and learn a little more. Just the other day I found out an yokai deity lives in here!", Bastet heard a low meow from the cat on her shoulder, "Oh, sorry... Let me introduce ourselves: I'm Bastet, my little guardian here is Gacha, and my company here is OroHachi, the 8th Orochi."

And with a gesture of his tail to head that was like a brief salute, the serpent known as OroHachi added: "Me and my seven brothers may be just a fragment of the original Orochi, and a cursed power bound to Bastet, but make no mistake: we care about her as if she were family."

Vlad took a long look at each individual as Bastet introduced them and gave a quick nod of acknowledgment as she went down the line. It wasn't every day he was introduced to a spirit guardian or a snake with seven siblings. "Nice to meet you all." He was still somewhat reserved and cautious of the group given that they outnumbered him. Regardless he tried his best to appear friendly and open to conversation, keeping up his smile. " Usually curses are considered negative but if yours gives you family it must not be all too bad."

He was somewhat curious as to why the girl was cursed but not enough to pry into her life. Curses were everywhere on the island and were almost as common as seeing the sunrise in the morning and the moon at night. "Oh, you can call me Vlad by the way." where he would usually offer some sort of handshake he just kept his arms to himself.

"We were supposed to overcome her and use her as a vessel for our re-awakening, but her personality was too entertaining to us, so we agreed to take care of our vessel as if she were one of ours.", OroHachi answered without hesitation, and Bastet simply nodded in agreement.

"Vlad... I only ever heard of one Vlad before. Even then through fictions, although there was also a Vlad Tepes historically documented. But I'm sure it's coincidence. I mean: I'm named after a goddess, but I'm just a human."

Vlad took in the bizarre story but then realized crazier things happened on the island every day and that he shouldn't be one to judge someone else's crazy life. In fact, he was somewhat pleased with how wholesome it was. Life had a strange way of working out and it seemed Bastet had fallen into a rather favorable next step. " Yeah, I'm not a vampire or anything...furthest from it actually. I'm just a plain old human living amongst some really nice people."

He pondered how little he thought about the irony of his name to his condition. It would've elicited a small chuckle were it not completely creepy to just do so. " So are your folks from Egypt or did your parents just like the name." Look at that B in history paying off. Vlad was somewhat proud he had remembered that little tidbit of information considering how out of touch he was during that class.

Gacha and OroHachi exchanged glances, the serpent had uncertainty of Vlad's claim, but Gacha had certainty at least in the non-hostility. After all, had she perceived him as a threat, he would be in for quite a scare. "Gacha seems to agree...", Bastet nodded after a brief side glance to the cat upon her shoulder.

"No, I'm from Japan. And so is my mother. To be more specific, my parents came from different timelines, and my father is also an alien... Somehow I came out as human but have cold blood like reptiles.", Bastet explained.
