Live stood in the middle of her favorite clearing as the new moon hung over her head. She could feel the energy of the darkness surging around her and she took her breaths slow and easy, letting the night air fill her lungs and then escape again through her nostrils.

The air was still crisp and cool but it wasn't as cold as it had been. It was at least bearable to be out in and Live had dressed warmly, in all black of course. Everything except for her face was covered and she was barely visible surrounded by the shadows as they rose from the ground and danced around her.

John flew above the forest, his black wings carrying through the night air, he looked quite the site in this form, eight feet tall, wearing all black with his face looking like a skull mask. He looked down, his enhanced night vision cutting through the darkness, he picked up a scent, human.

He stopped midair, and glided down, landing silently on the forest floor, despite his size he could be quite stealthy when he wanted, he was after-all a physical manifestation of death. He looked around, catching site of a girl, probably a few years older than him.

He shifted down to his human form, and reached into his pocket to make sure his scythe was there in its shrunken form, he didn't like the thing, but he supposed it was handy to have. He walked quietly toward the girl, and leaned against a tree, not wanting to disturb her, "nice night," he said.

Live had been caught off guard before by someone wandering around in the woods and had mistaken them for an animal until they were talking to her. Of course, she learned from her mistake and was paying much better attention to what the darkness was seeing and telling her as she continued her mediation.

She felt something land. Something large..and then it changed and wasn't as large. Well, whatever it was, wasn't human or an animal. She didn't flinch though. Just kept breathing and paying attention, following whatever it was until it reached her clearing, stopped and spoke.

She didn't open her eyes or react in anyway physically. The darkness that danced around her pulled in closer to her body, moving less and becoming more dense.

"Yes.... It is a nice night."

She responded, her monotone voice just as cold as the air.

He watched as the darkness around her shifted, pulling closer to her, it was fascinating, the only magic he had known about was the spells used by the cult. This was unlike anything he had ever seen, it was odd actually, he had never understood why death and darkness were often linked, death didn't care whether it was day or night. It was a universal factor, something that was always there.

"Interesting powers you have there," he said calmly, "control over darkness must be really useful." He tilted his head as he looked at the darkness, "I just arrived, my name's John Rathier."

Live's head moved up and down slowly as if nodding slightly. "I wouldn't necessarily say control but in a sense yes... This darkness will listen to me."

Her arms came up slowly and the shadows rose up into the sky, creating an arch over her head. She dropped her arms and the darkness fell back to the ground in a crash, as if it gravity suddenly gained an effect over it. Everything was still..

She turned to face the boy, her eyes opening to reveal empty gray irises.

Her eyes narrowed, "Of course you're new..." She grumbled as she crossed her arms, her weight shifting to her side. "John Rathier, huh? Not a very telling name other than you're probably of European decent.."

He watched as she arched the darkness through the air and then smiled calmly, "well I was adopted." He hadn't found out about his adoption until all the madness had happened.

He looked at her completely unfazed by her strange eyes, after all he turned into a large skull faced being, "so, this island seems interesting, a lot to see. All this magic is cool, your darkness seems fascinating."

He had fought high priests of the cult that killed hid parents, the had magic, but he had never seen any real variety of magic until he arrived on the island, "I knew magic existed, just didn't know there was so much of it."

Ahh..adopted. Seemed there were very few creatures here had a normal childhood but very few of them were "normal" anyways.

"If you can think of it, it probably exists in some kind of manifestation here."

She smirked a bit, "Yes, darkness is quite..interesting to say the least."
