"Preferences... well, I like girls now."

Madeline laughed at her own shitty joke. She still wasn't over the idea that she was allowed to like girls now. She was finally free! She didn't even want to contain it, because she had been containing it for so long already. Letting it out was intoxicating.

"But, really, I guess a pizza with meats on it. And I want soda. I don't eat a lot so I'm making this count." Madeline looked at her menu, then pointed out a meaty specialty pizza that sounded promising. "I think we should get that one. Go big or go home."

Jazz couldn't help but roll her eyes at Maddie's quip, though of course not dismissively. Her jokeyness was just another feature that she'd gotten attached to, and it was certainly a better alternative than dwelling on the past. "I mean, meat's always good, yeah. Let's go for that." Glancing at the menu, she found the special Madeline was talking about. It was on the pricey side, but she didn't care.

When the Brooklyn croc man came back to the table, Jazz ordered the pizza and two root beers, then promptly returned her attention to Maddie. The soda came shockingly quickly, practically before she could say anything, and the bear girl took a long sip of hers. "Sooo...that's probably gonna take a little bit to get out to us." Playfully, Jazz moved to brush one of her feet against the other girl's, giving her a dreamy smile. "I have to say, I really never expected things to work out so smoothly like this, but...I'm beyond glad they did. I know you'll probably say something like 'I know I am', but I want you to know you're amazing anyway, Maddie. Really."

That Brooklyn croc man was a delight, honestly. Madeline knew this for a fact now, because she wasn't high or anything and she still thought so.

Jazz looked so infatuated - it was kind of overwhelming for Madeline, honestly. She knew how much Jazz had coveted her. She knew it for a fact - she had felt it. It was hard for Maddie to believe that she was this wanted.

She got flustered for a second. Then she was back to her regularly scheduled confident persona. "Yeah, I know I am," she said. And then she laughed. Even though she didn't entirely believe it, Jazz was right - that was the sort of thing she would say. "But you're great too. I'd still probably be... I guess, bi in denial if it wasn't for you."

She kept up the footsies with Jazz, slow and casual. "It was honestly pretty embarassing. How I'd come up with ways to tell myself I was straight, like. Yeah, wanting to make out with girls is a normal straight girl thing. Straight girls feel like that all the time. Right?" Madeline laughed a little.

Jazz smiled softly when she returned the compliment, feeling a little fuzzy warmth in her chest at the sort of tenderness of the interaction. She leaned a little to put a hand on top of Madeline's, hers probably a little smaller, and gently moved her thumb back and forth across the back of it a couple times.

"I'm really glad that you're so relieved, but...honestly, I don't think there's anything to be embarrassed about. It can be a really scary thing to come to terms with certain parts of yourself, and that's true for that one especially." She paused a moment, taking another sip of her soda and returning her hand to her side of the table. "If I'm being honest, it's not really something I had ever had the courage to be open about before either. So, I guess...I dunno. We're being kind of brave together, or, um...something? Yeah. Brave."

Glancing briefly around the restaurant to ensure there weren't all too many eyes on them, mostly for Maddie's benefit, she leaned forward again and this time gave her a quick kiss, her lips most likely laced with an extra hint of sweetness from the soda. "Anyway, um. We'll only ever have one first date, so, let's enjoy ourselves, right?" By now, Jazz was blushing pretty obviously, eyes lit up with significantly more energy than they typically were. Even without any magical senses, it was perfectly clear how genuinely she wanted to be here.
