Event Private Finished Impromptu Debate

Andrasta was irritated. She didn't believe him - she didn't really think the plant boy was open to the idea of detention being bad. Maybe she was wrong, so she still felt like it was worth it to try. But she didn't savor the idea of wasting her time like this.

"Well. To start, I really do think replacing it with nothing would be an improvement. Not that it's a good idea to replace it with nothing, it's just, that's how bad detention is. Doing nothing would be better. But. Instead of detention, I think teachers should do stuff without the vicious cycles detention has, like taking a kid aside when they do something bad and talking to them about why it was bad and why they should stop. And if that doesn't work, then you make them see the counselors or have parent-teacher conferences. 'Cause they can still do that last thing sometimes when you just have a dorm parent. And..."

Andrasta thought a little bit. "I think there's some kind of in-school suspension that might actually help, too." She heard that once. But she didn't know what it meant yet, only that it was probably better than detention.

Andrasta relaxed and smiled a little. She was getting somewhere with this kid.

"Well. Obviously, even if I become student council president, I can't just make an executive order to ban detentions or anything. But I do have a plan to keep pressuring the people who actually can change things, and sorta force them to change it. Being student council president helps a lot, but I'm not gonna quit if I don't get on student council."

Whether or not it was in the rules that a student could change the disciplinary code didn't matter. The idea that it could was almost an alien concept to Andrasta.

"But I spoke to some people on faculty. But I was really just trying to convince them this is a good idea."

"Yeah, for sure," Andrasta said. She'd said this part a lot already, she almost felt like she was reciting it now.

"I'm going to set up some more small, regular events to help new students make friends and meet people. And I'm gonna build up the mentoring program, 'cause. Having mentors and people like that is what helped me become better. So I think that can help a lot of people. But also one of my best friends is the student council president right now, so I know all about what a student council president does."

And if she didn't know everything, it'd help to have him around to ask. And maybe even Alma too.

"Yep. Orsick's one of my best friends." She smiled and nodded. Orsick was actually... kind of her boyfriend now? And she was still a little giddy about that. On top of that, Carmin really seemed interested in her other ideas about helping new people make friends, and she was proud of that. Good vibes all around for Andrasta, here.

"So... oh we didn't introduce ourselves. I'm Andrasta. But the ballot will have my name down as Riley 'Andrasta' Keegan." She would pause for a second, giving Carmin a chance to tell her his name.

"Can I count on your vote?"

Not quite the response she was hoping for from Carmin, but this was definitely better than not wanting to vote for her at all. That's where Carmin probably was before they spoke. So, as far as she was concerned, this went pretty well!

"Okay. Thanks for talking to me Carmin! I'll see you around." She returned his wave.

With that, Andrasta ran off to go talk to another group of people before the lunch break ended. "Hey guys! Did you know the school should stop doing detention?"
