"Yeah, I keep bees, but I'm working at a cafe part time for money. Honey sales and bee upkeep are about even, y'know?"

Verda followed him along without really paying attention to their surroundings. She definitely would have forgotten to ask for directions again until he'd left the conversation.

"Whoa whoa whoa, SPACE STATION?! You work in space?! Like, space. Space space. Void between the stars space. Up there. That's where your job is. There's a space station?!" Verda's gold eyes were absolutely huge as she stared at him. "what's it like?"

Rigel realized what he'd done as soon as he saw her expression change. It was just so normal to him that he forgot there were people who didn't even dream of an actual space station. It was to the point that bee keeping seemed far more interesting to him than the station. And he loved it up on the space station.

"Hm well, I guess it's kinda normal to me but it's like what you'd see in a sci-fi flick. Aliens, space ships, fancy tech compared to what's on Earth. It's a fun time," he said all too casually. "There's also an amusement park up there among other things. I do give unofficial tours sometimes so..."

"My dude," Verda said, "my man, I will absolutely trade you a hive show-and-tell for a space station tour. You want some honey? I've got cinnamon and regular. I can get you scones and donuts? Let us blast this barter system wide open, because a tour of a space station by a mechanic sounds like an amazing afternoon."

Verda couldn't stop smiling, she was so excited about s p a c e.

"Unofficial tours by locals are the best! You can show me the niche star-gazing windows or whatever else you feel like tourists avoid that's cool."

Honey had the dragon thinking of things he could possibly make. The mention of pastries caused the dragon to visibly perk up. All of these options were very enticing. He'd be strategic about his choice.

"The honey actually sounds nice. I can continue my dabbling in baking and making the perfect iced tea," he said after a moment. "There's a whole lot more than just stargazing to do up there. In a lot of ways it's its own town."

"You like experimenting with iced tea? That's great! I'd love to be a taste tester sometime, I'll bring scones as a pairing. You can tell me how they hold up to space scones."

Verda shuffled her phone out of her bag. It wasn't an Academy-distributed phone, just an older model of a brand known for long life in a Hello Kitty phone case. Well, a phone case that was a primarily pink floral pattern covered in Hello Kitty stickers.

"We should swap contact info, so we can trade and I can bribe you with snacks for future tours," Verda said, and offered the phone to Rigel with a new contact open.

"Seems like we speak the same language. Hang out eat good food, drink good drinks, have a good time. Living the best life," he pulled his own phone out as well. It was just behind the most recent model. What few realized that thanks to him winning a contest a year ago, it also always had a signal. With that, Rigel exchanged his contact information with Verda.

"Well now that that's done, let's get you to that art building, yeah?" they had both gotten so thoroughly distracted. Rigel almost forgot, almost. He was a man of his word, and a man with a mission.

Verda laughed at herself. "Oh, right! Pottery workshop! Yeah, please direct me to the kiln Mr. Space Engineer."

She snorted a little as they walked. "It makes me feel a little better about getting lost, honestly, that it takes a space engineer to figure out where to go. I know you probably know your way around just because you've been here a lot, but like- no wonder I can't read these maps! It's rocket science!"

Verda cackled a bit at her own joke.

Rigel snorted, shaking his head as he lead the way to the workshop.

"I mean, I've been going here since I was about... nine, ten? I know this place like the back of my hand. Engineering's got nothing to do with it. Maps are... eh they can take a bit to figure out. You think the school's a labyrinth, the space stations probably the next step up. But getting lost can be kinda fun too, never know who you'll meet," he gestured to himself. Then rounded a couple more corners as they headed to their destination.

"That's true," Verda replied, "getting lost got me a space station invitation today, so it's not all bad."

She hummed a bit to herself as they walked through the twisting corridors. "Y'know, I thought it would be a challenge to move away from home into a huge campus and city life, full of so many different people- and it is, like, don't get me wrong- but everyone I've met so far has been really... kind. Really chill. I haven't encountered any of that big city attitude people talk about, just a few people grumpy because they don't have their coffee yet. Is there just like, a really strong sense of fellowship around here? Like, help your neighbors? It seems like a good community."

((sorry for the delay, my brain's been a bit broke due to [waves at world]. hope you're doing well))
