The swelling had gone down. He wouldn't dare see Angelo while it was still fresh.

Tybalt still had a bandage over his cheek, just off the corner of his eye where he was unceremoniously punched in the head by a very, very disgruntled young man. So it hadn't been completely unexpected considering being a cop was his job. It was also healing a tad faster than normal because he was an angel, but no amount of angelic could get it to not hurt. And damn, it did hurt like a bitch.

He got a little bit of time off for his troubles, and he hadn't been in contact with Angelo the entire time because... Well, maybe wallowing in self pity was a bit of it. Another bit of him, and one he tried not to admit to, just didn't want his partner to be too worried about his state of well being. It wasn't like he got stabbed.

The blond had dropped by a small roadside stand to scoop up a bundle of daisies before he dropped by Angelo's place. He knocked on the door exactly three times, just as he always did, before stepping back and waiting. Ah, maybe he should've done so sooner.

Probably.

Not hearing from Tybalt was... alarming. Angelo certainly had a lot on his plate, but the radio silence was concerning just the same.

Maybe Tybalt just needed space. If he'd been killed--which Angelo genuinely wasn't clear if possible--he'd absolutely have heard of it. There was no way that another cop could just die without the entire department knowing.

Even so, it wasn't good to not hear. Angelo found himself going out of his way to try and spot Tybalt at work, but he either wasn't there, or he was straight up avoiding him.

He didn't like being avoided.

Angelo was in the middle of a shower when someone knocked on the door. Even from his room he could hear it, and he whipped out of the shower as fast as his legs could carry him, throwing on a t-shirt and some jeans before heading down the stairs, his hair still soaking wet.

It might not even be for him, but he'd already answered the door half naked three times for the mailman, and it definitely wasn't the mailman this time. Three knocks - that was Tybalt, or someone fucking with him pretending to be Tybalt.

He practically took the door off the hinges pulling it open so fast, blinking down at Tybalt for a moment.

It was him.

"You were avoiding me!" Angelo loudly declared, his excitement at seeing Tybalt rapidly bumping up to annoyance before coming crashing right down at the sight of the bandage on his face. "Because you were injured," he added lamely, chewing on his lip and stepping back to let Tybalt in.

He was probably dripping on the floor, wasn't he?

The waiting was the hardest part, even if it was just a minute. It gave him the time to appreciate the hypocrisy of it all; Angelo had avoided him after he'd broken down in front of him, and Tybalt had gotten pissed. But now that he was injured, he went ahead and avoided Angelo. No wonder his wings were still grey. He'd need to work on that, for sure.

Tybalt rolled the stems of the small clutch of daisies between two fingers until he heard the sound of running footsteps. Not like it could easily be hidden; whoever was running had to be heavy, and he was quickly proven to be right when Angelo nearly tore the door right off its hinges to greet him.

He swore up and down the man had no volume control.

Still, the angel overlooked it and grinned somewhat meekly before stepping in past Angelo, stopping just inside the door. "Yeah. A little." He shrugged so nonchalantly it was almost as if he were never worried about it.

Tybalt turned on his heels, leaning in to give Angelo a light pat on the cheek before offering the flowers to him. "Don't look so worried. I didn't get shot at... Only punched in the side of the head." Hard enough to warrant a stitch or two, but he wasn't going to bring that up.

Angelo bristled a bit when he was offered flowers, but it was awfully hard to stay mad at someone who had brought you some. He grumbled and groaned but finally reached out, taking the flowers in hand and heading off to the kitchen to fetch a vase. He simply assumed that Tybalt would follow him, because that was kind of what Tybalt did.

He'd set the flowers up on the table, and then it was time to go back to his room. There was nothing wrong with him staying in the living room to chat with Tybalt, but he always felt a bit awkward taking up shared space with him and his... whatever Tybalt was.

Which was, he supposed, the question of the moment, wasn't it?

He'd have to ask.

"Are we dating?" Angelo asked, halfway up the stairs.

Angelo knew him well. He did follow him, a few steps behind at a time after he finally took the flowers and went to find them a temporary home. He wasn't expecting to stay on the main level for long; Angelo always ended up leading them up towards his room and this time was no different. Not like he minded anyway. Some privacy was inevitably nice, he just wished there was a little more overall room.

It was halfway up the stairs that Angelo asked a question that stopped him in his tracks. He paused for a second or two, staring at the other man's back as he continued up the stairs before resuming his own pace.

"Yeah. Yeah, I think we are." At least, that was the assumption Tybalt had been operating under. He just always thought it was this silent, mutual understanding... Which was probably why he was somewhat terrible with relationships. Communication wasn't his forte.

Alright. Okay. Dating. He had this. Angelo carried on up the stairs even when Tybalt paused, relief flooding through him when he heard Tybalt start to walk again behind him.

"Okay, so... uh, sorry, are we 'exclusive'?" He'd kind of operated under the assumption that dating meant exclusive, but apparently not. Some people considered them two separate conversations, and considering that he was dating someone who literally wasn't human, it was probably best to get ahead of any possible communication issues.

He let himself into his room, holding the door open for Tybalt before going to grab a seat on the edge of his bed, patting the space beside him to indicate that the other man should sit down.

Tybalt wasn't entirely sure if he was comfortable with this, but considered it a conversation that would inevitably happen anyway. He'd always imagined himself as comfortable when it came to talking about relationships, but evidently not. No, even when asked if they were exclusive, he hesitated for a second longer than he needed to. Of course they were. He wanted them to be. Still, there was just a little pause before he gave him an answer.

"Yeah. I mean, I assumed we were." He paused in the doorway to Angelo's room, oddly hesitant for someone that was usually so self assured. He only ducked in when the other blond offered him a seat on the bed, gently closing the door behind him as he passed the threshold.

"Why all the questions all the sudden?" He didn't want to sound confrontational and he hoped he wasn't coming off like that, but he was genuinely curious. He thought he and Angelo had been pretty okay. A little bumpy, but pretty mutually understood.

Yeah, Tybalt was horrible with communication. He usually went with none at all.

Angelo really didn't think he was asking a ton of questions or anything. Really, he was just doing what he always did, and he'd happened to want clarification.

Was that too much to ask?

Angelo cleared his throat, glancing over to Tybalt, and then shrugged.

"No reason in particular," he said quietly. "I just... wasn't sure." And it was probably better to clarify things like that before it came up, rather than waiting for it all to blow up in his face.

Once Tybalt had sat down, though, all bets were off.

Or they were off in theory, because he couldn't quite bring himself to just lean over and kiss him. Even though they had before, it seemed like a much too daunting option. He was an angel, and there was no way of telling what that actually implied.

"Alright, so... usual progression for relationships, then?"

It wasn't as if Tybalt had never been in a relationship before. Technically speaking, he'd been in about a dozen. They were very few and far between, though, occasionally a good lifetime or two for humans. It had also been a very long time before Angelo, and plenty could happen in between. Starting fresh was probably good for him.

He nodded, the small smile never leaving his face. "Usual progression."

As if he'd partially read his mind, Tybalt leaned over Angelo's shoulder and gave him a quick peck on the cheek. Probably not an overly romantic gesture for most, but for Tybalt it was a step in the right direction. At least, he was hoping it was.

The tops of his cheeks instantly blushed with pink, though. Not what he was hoping for, but it'd die down soon enough.

The peck on the cheek was adorable. Adorable wasn't usually a word that Angelo would have assigned to a guy, but the fact that Tybalt actually blushed after a peck on the cheek?

Good god, it'd be a miracle if he didn't have a heart attack from the sheer levels of cute.

Angelo grinned, reaching up to hook an arm around Tybalt's shoulder as he turned to face him, leaning in for a proper kiss. Not a peck, of course, but an actual kiss, because Angelo had a damn good idea of what he was doing and what he wanted, and a peck on the cheek was not that.
