Bertrand was one of the few students he was aware of who made use of the chapel. He could understand why. Given how much of the student body was harmed by religious symbols or had been ostracized by religion in their life, or even thohse who just had never been around it, it was no wonder.

Bertrand however enjoyed his time in the chapel. He liked sitting here, usually when he had time after his classes. He came more often when he had questions or doubts, but he figured that was true for anybody. This place had has helped him more with reconciling the facts of Life around him better than any talk with a counselor had.

He finished his devotional, closing the book and slipping into prayer where he sat.
"Credo in Deum Patrem omnipotentem, Creatorem caeli et terrae..."

The chapel... a sanctuary that Johanna had made use of several times when she needed to be a little closer to god as she prayed. Whenever she felt unsure, she could always find comfort in the chapel grounds. Echoing footsteps could be heard as her heels clacked against the floor as walked slowly to the pews. She couldn't help but be disappointed to see how barren this holy place is... though given the hold of demonic influence on this island it should not come to any surprise. There was however one other person that she was able to spot, just starting their prayers. This brought a hopeful smile to Johanna's face... a reminder that that faith is not entirely lost in this place.

Johanna took a moment to observe Bertand, before quietly slipping to pew a bit further way from as to keep her intrusion to a minimum. Once seated, Johanna looked briefly to the alter as her fingers feel the cross of of the rosary that she carried with her. She then takes the cross to her forehead, then her chest, then shoulder to should as she mummers "In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy spirit... amen."

From there, Johanna lowers her head in reverence, her fingers shifting to the first bead of the Rosary and quietly rehearses the Apostles Creed.

Bertrand heard someone else enter the chapel, but kept his head down and finished his prayers. When he did, he lifted his eyes to see who had joined him, his curiosity getting the better of him.

He was met with the most beautiful pair of wings he had ever seen. Pristine white feathers and hair like shimmering pearl. Another Nephilim? Or possibly a fully fledged Angel? He instinctively took a sharp breath, fumbling with his pockets to give himself something to do.

Bertrand waited until Johanna was done with her prayers before he spoke. He smiled, keeping his lips together for fear of getting the all too common question asked. Why do your teeth sparkle?

"Hello. It's good to see someone else in the Chapel. I'm Bertrand Nash."

"... through the same Christ our Lord. Amen." softly spoke Johanna, then finished with the sign of the cross. With her prayer concluded, she puts her rosary aside and sits up from her seat. As she does so, she sees the figure from earlier approach her just as she finished prayer. Polite of him to wait for her she thought as she turned to him to give him her undo attention.

"Likewise, it is humbling to another make use of this holy space. Its rare that I see another praying here though... perhaps I merely arrive at times when it quieter" suggested Johanna... in an effort to explain the lack of people here. She looked briefly to the empty pews, then turns to give Bertand a smile.

"It is kind of you to wait for me finish my prayer Bertand Nash. I am Johanna Deawon. Now may I be of service in some way?" asked Johanna as she gave Bertand a glance over. She couldn't help but notice how perfect his form was... so clean and blemish-free he was it was almost... unnatural. In any other setting Johanna may have been suspicious but her, she is at ease. Surely only the most godly of men and women would come to this place and so she did not think of him to be someone to be wary of.

Bertrand smiled a bit wider when Johanna spoke to him. She seemed nice, though maybe he was biased based on what she seemed to be. "Ah, yeah. This place is usually pretty empty. I've been coming here for years. The quiet is nice and the chaplain is really nice. I think he's out right now though."

Gesturing around, he pointed out some of the more interesting aspects of the chapel. How it was set up to accommodate so many faiths. He paused though, kind of embarrassed.

"Ah, sorry. I'm assuming you're new because I haven't seen you around."

He looked Johanna over, unsure of how to ask the question he wanted to. So he just blurted it out. "I just kind of wanted to ask, are you a full angel or a Nephilim or what?"

"Oh, I am a recent arrival. I have only been here for only a couple of months so its a fair assumption to make. On most days I pray from my living quarters but occasionally I come here when I feel that I need to be closer to god's presence." admits Johanna after she had finished looking at all of the things that Bertrand was pointing out to her. Most of them times she has come here it was to pray for her brother's soul but... that was a conversation for her and God alone.

"As you presumed, I am indeed an angel... a humble servant of the Lord and one of the many guardians of the dominion of heaven." spoke up Johanna, as she rests a hand over her chest and gives Bertrand a single nod. As she head comes back up, puts her hands to her side gives him a faint smile.

"Now... any more things that you would like to ask? I would be more than happy to answer any more questions that you may have on you mind."

Bertrand offered a small smile in return to Johanna as she introduced herself. So formal, so polite. It warmed his heart, in a strange way.

"I don't think I've met a great deal of Angels in my time on the island. I'm a Nephilim. I assume my father was an Angel of some sort, but I never got to meet him."

He paused. That was too much personal information. Bertrand shook his head once and continued, "My apologies. It's just exciting to see someone so clearly devoted to their faith."

But in Bertrand's experience, devotion could come with some negative connotations attached to it. "I suppose my first question would be how you're adjusting to the island? I imagine it's quite the, uh, culture shock for you."

"Your father is angel?" inquired Johanna, perking up her eyebrows. Which relationships between angels and mortals was... frowned upon... it would be rude of her think of Bertrand any less. Just because he was the product of taboo doesn't mean that she judge him him a heritage that he had no control over.

"Well I am humbled that you are so honored for this chance meeting. You have nothing to apologize for." remarked Johanna, giving Bertrand a sincere smile "I myself am also happy to meet someone whom is also devout to their faith. To answer you question..."

Johanna paused, coming to earth has been... an experience to say the least. The regiment of academy life suited her fine as she was used to such structure back home. The pervasiveness of demons, the lack of faith in denizens, and her difficulties socializing with her peers has been quite a struggle for her in the months that she has been on this island. Then there was everything going on with her and her brother... which was part of the reason why she came to this chapel in the first place.

"... it has indeed been quite a shock. Its been... difficult for me to adjust. This place is... not how I expected. While I continue to persevere... I will admit that integrating myself on this island has been... a struggle for someone like me to say the least."

He nodded, staying quiet as Johanna answered. He knew what she was feeling. It was much the same as he had been when he had first gotten to the island.

"I know what you mean," he said finally. "When I first came here, there was too much. The demons were the hardest thing to accept."

Bertrand paused, waiting to see if her expression confirmed what he suspected. When it did, he smiled softly at her. "I spent a lot of time in prayer about demons and how I should deal with them."

"You pray... for demons? Such prayers are wasted on- *sighs* well... if you wish for advice on demons I would say the best way to deal with them on this island is to not deal with them at all." advised Johanna, putting on a small frown when the conversation turned to subjects of demons. While she was careful not to speak too critically of them, it was clear in the strain on her voice she was restraining herself on her wording. She then bites on her lower lip, thinking for a moment on what else she could say before inquiring with Bertrand once more.

"How do you cope with them? The demons I mean. As an angel of heaven... its difficult for someone like me to tolerate their constant presence." admits Johanna, her composure more serious as she asks the half angel how it is for someone like him to be able to withstand their glaring presence. Even with having to attend "sensitivity" classes... she still only sees the worth of demons and their kin being anything less than dirt. While she has taken care to watch her words... right now with she felt that she can more freely express her opinions a little bit more openly with Bertand. Surely he can understand her.
