Name: Ian Wakeman
Age: . 16
Birthday: November 11
Gender: Boybitz.
Category: Student
Class: Middle School
Appearance Description: Ian's got a rather unremarkable frame, left in that awkward stage of puberty with knobbly joints. He's got a narrow face with a sharply angled features. His hair tends to rise up into a messy crest of mottled brown hair, and his nose is sharp and angles downwards at a hook, making him resemble some sort of lumpy, awkward bird. He tends to hide his lumpy features under black pants and a T-shirt under a brown coat slightly too large for him; a gift from his father. Ian likes to wear a hat or bandanna over his hair as well.
Personality Description: Somewhere between jackass and defeatist, Ian can seem begrudging, lippy, even downright caustic at times. He's been overlooked in favor of his brother and sister; the youngest of the three and seemingly a habitual underachiever. This bitterness is punctuated by a surprisingly strong need to pick up the slack of others or carry his load, normally while shooting off his mouth at them. Those who can get past his abrasive exterior can find an amazingly loyal and compassionate friend who's even prone to worrying about those close to him, doting on them even. However there's no stopping Ian from letting his verbal barbs fly at everyone within range. People worry that this could lead him to being something of a bully, taking out his inferiority complex on those inferior to him, but he wants to see people succeed. He isn't his brother, he'll help you but tell you he's only doing it because you just suck so bad.
Powers: Up To Me - Manifests as a spectral figure resembling a humanoid automaton and capable of moving within up to a meter of space around Ian, this apparition grants considerable combat capability to the young Wakeman. Whereas Ian is scrawny and not the toughest kid on the block, Up To Me can strike with strength beyond the human limitations and move with incredible speed, precision and dexterity. What's more, Up To Me is capable of releasing a powerful Surge of energy from its hands. Anything a Surge runs through is affected by it. Surges are capable of rolling through a target like electricity, and can have effects ranging from charging and activating machinery, changing and reshaping objects, and even bursting or splitting them apart. The surge's power diminishes the further it has to run and the larger the object/effect, and surges cannot run through open air, barely able to work in liquids as well. Surges can be transferred from one object to another and perform large effects in small areas, though.
Up To Me is directly linked to Ian Wakeman, disappearing if he travels more then one meter away from him and seeming to weaken and fade away if Ian cannot maintain concentration or consciousness. However, Up To Me is capable of subconsciously protecting his master, watching for threats from all angles. Any damage dealt to Up To Me is instantly felt by and dealt to Ian as well, catching a knife blade in Up To Me's hand will slit open Ian's palm as well, and cracking Ian's ribs with a bat will crumple and buckle Up To Me's side. Up To Me's more durable than Ian, but damage to either is shared by the other, and the generation and use of Surges can drain Ian's stamina, wearing him out quite possibly to the point where he cannot maintain Up To Me.
Strengths: Surges are versatile and powerful, Up To Me very dangerous in combat, protected by a 'guardian spirit'
Weaknesses: Damage is shared between Ian and Up To Me, Up To Me cannot leave one meter area around Ian, Surges taxing to use and short ranged. Up To Me requires concentration from Ian to remain active.
Discovered when: Age 12
Discovered how: Discovered while falling from the roof of a building, was pulled onto a fire-escape by manifesting Up To Me
How/Why they have it: Familial Hereditary Ability.
Biography: Ian grew up the smallest of three kids, growing up in an old neighborhood to a good family. His dad could call on a spirit much like his, as could his brother and sister, and his brother was an alumnus of Starlight Academy already, his sister still attending. All his life, Ian was overlooked. He was the proverbial runt of the litter, small for his age and never picked for sports in school or with his friends. A resentment started to grow in young Ian, but he started to refuse accepting special treatment. He'd try harder than anyone else, he'd work harder than anyone else, and when he couldn't live up to the standards he'd set, when anyone tried to lower the standards for him, he'd lash out.
It was one day in particular, when he was twelve, he was playing with his friends on the roof of his apartment building, throwing a football back and forth. A pass went too far off course, flew too long, and Ian wanted to grab it before it went off the roof. He had to jump for it, and even though he caught the ball the jump carried him over the edge. It was a four story building with a large, wrought iron fire escape. His legs weren't long enough to hook onto the railing, his arms still clutching the ball out of panic, he started to plummet. That second of realization, knowing he was falling to his death, sparked something in Ian. The spark grew and from it came an apparition, hands grabbing Ian, moving him onto the fire fire escape. He looked up at the shimmering, metallic image of Up To Me.
When his parents learned that a guardian spirit had appeared to stand next to Ian, his fate was sealed. Like his older siblings, Ian was to be sent to Starlight Academy. He learned how to master his powers quickly, but preferred to focus more on his actual studies, save for math. Seriously, math can go to hell.
