As soon as Makara said the word atlas, she knew that she had picked the wrong word. She wanted a map of where the books were. Not a book of general maps. She was thinking more pamphlet wise; something like the campus map she got when arriving except for the library.

However, Nia had no idea how to get this into words for Makara to understand. But thankfully it seemed she wouldn't have to. He suggested that they go see the librarian and she nodded quickly in agreement. Though she was a bit scared of whoever this librarian might be, she knew that they would be able to help her understand how to use the library.

She glanced around the vast space, suddenly feeling swallowed by it. She froze and looked up at Makara, "Um... Where is the librarian?" She wanted to be able to do as much on her own as she could, but she still needed a bit of help. Hence, why she had asked the man to come along in the first place.

> Tamara

Tamara sat behind the desktop, just right behind the counter, occasionally only looking up from the screen to look out for anyone who would approach and are unfortunately too quiet to be noticed. She was the only one on the information desk at that moment, while her assistant was out re-shelving books.

She'd catch a few people coming and going from the doors, yet there hasn't been guests that came any closer within her line of sight other than her assistants and a few other students who went to borrow a book or two.

Except for these two. She couldn't hear much from where she was but her eyes were already on them, just waiting for them to turn their attention to her.

At least he knew how to locate a librarian. That was a small step, but it was a step. Any step was good. He rotated on the spot, finding the librarian he's spotted earlier, and then set a hand on Nia's shoulder and scooted her towards the desk, guiding her along.

Reaching the death, he cleared his throat. "You should ask her for help." He said quietly, glancing down to Nia. She would have to learn to fight her own battles one day, and this was just the first step - learning to ask someone that wasn't Makara for assistance. He could only help her so much in the library specifically, and even in places where he could help, he couldn't always be there.

"Someone sitting behind a desk in a library should work there." He added, more or less as an afterthought. Probably best to clarify that much, since it was essentially the very limits of his library knowledge.

Nia let Makara guide her over to the librarians desk, happy to let him be in control of the situation if only for a moment. As soon as they got over there, she could tell that she wouldn't be getting much more assistance from the man. Though of course she had hoped he might do all the talking, she couldn't blame him for pushing her to do things on her own; even if half the reason he did so was sort of a selfish reason.

She took a deep breath as she looked at the woman. Her appearance was pleasant and looked human, making some of the girls anxieties fade a bit. The woman did have some strange markings on her face, but it was still not much compared to some of the people on the island. The young girl was still adjusting to that bit.

"Um..." Nia said as she held her inhale for a moment. Her body seemed to tense and her eyes found their way up to the ceiling as if the answer to her unasked question could be up there.

"I need a book." Was all she finally managed to get out. Probably not that big of a surprise as they were in a library.

[[ OOC: sorry for the delay. i got caught up in ...various things ]]

Tamara kept her attention to her work for the time being. She figured it would be rude if she would stare expectantly at the two for any longer until they actually approached. Well, in no time, they did. She'd recognize the staff member from the staff lists but the girl wasn't someone she was familiar with. It was her who took the step forward.

It wasn't really hard for Tamara to tell she was feeling uncomfortable. The look in her eyes told the whole story; looking about like a lost child in a vast city. To be fair, the library was big enough to be quite overwhelming. Tamara chuckled inwardly while keeping a sweet smile when she turned her attention to the girl.

She asked for a book. Tamara waited for about a second, bobbing her head slightly to the side a few times, just waiting for her to add anything. Realizing that wasn't going to happen after all, she turned her attention down to a notepad in front of her and scribbled a note. "What sort did you need?" she wrote, almost too quickly before lightly tearing off the page and sliding it to the girl. Surely she can at least specify something...

The woman didn't say anything back and Nia felt a bit rising in her stomach. Maybe this library thing wasn't such a good idea...

Suddenly the woman grabbed a pen, scribbled something on a piece of paper and then slid it to Nia. She was a bit surprised at first but slowly took the paper and read it. She looked up at the woman, suddenly thankful and grabbed a pen. She scribbled something and quickly slid it back to the woman.

"I want to know how to use the library." While that didn't really sum up everything Nia wanted to say, it was a good start. She had a long list of things she wanted to read about and didn't want to overwhelm with that so instead she figured it would be better for her to simply know how to find things in a library so she could just do that herself.

The librarian wasn't talking, and Makara actually leaned over to peek at the note. Apparently, for whatever reason, the librarian wasn't talking. Maybe she just didn't like to, or maybe her voice made things explode or something. He supposed it didn't really matter, and he glanced at the note, standing just behind Nia. It was up to her to speak to the woman... which was good, because he had no idea what the note said.

He was hoping that Nia would just answer, but no such luck - she scribbled down an answer and slid it back. Makara leaned back, giving them enough space that he couldn't possibly be expected to be reading the notes. He was just going to have to wait, and hope he didn't ever have to read any of those notes.

The librarian read the note and then nodded to Nia. She opened a drawer and pulled out a small book, maybe 40 or so pages. She jotted something else down on the notecard and slid it back to Nia with the book.

She gave a shy smile to the woman and then turned to Makara. "This will help us figure out how this place works!" She whispered excitedly. A smile started to break even more on her face, but suddenly looking around at where she was, she pulled her expression back.
