Throughout the lesson, Falina watched with undivided attention, focus razor-sharp on one thing - Soren's teachings. How he noted things. How he talked to his class almost casually. How the lesson seemed to flow very smoothly from his lips, as if he'd been reading it off a cue-card. She had a page in front of her now - crisp, clean lined paper, in a little journal-looking notebook - and her pen made bright orange letters almost swoop across the page, dozens upon dozens of lines of sloped, sloppy scribbling, in a cursive near-unreadable.
She was starting to enjoy this class.
At one point, Soren had called out a redheaded girl in the back for admiring his butt - and of course, that was hilarious to Falina, who again held in her chuckles. How... flattering, she thought to herself, mentally giggling.
Which soon stopped as the class fell silent, awkwardness seeping into the air like fog. Soren didn't seem to notice - but she sure did. Her ears went back as she took another note, this time uneasy.
What happened? she asked herself.

Without missing a beat Soren pressed on, if only stopping for a second to let them finish that page of their notes.

"There's also telepaths who can only listen. I'm lucky enough that I can speak to you all. I'd be really screwed if I could only hear you. To be honest it'd drive me nuts if I had to listen to people and not comment on everything, it'd be like working customer service for my entire life. Telepaths who can only hear and not speak are called audiotelepaths, or sometimes colloquially as 'mute telepathy'. They are the minority."

Oh he most definitely noticed Falina was taking copious amounts of notes. Did that make him nervous? A little. He also noticed her smile when he said that girl said he had a cute butt. Did she think his butt was cute? Had she been looking? He did have a really good butt. It was a great one. And he did make sure his clothes fit well. She had to think he had a grade A+ ass. Oh shit he was teaching wasn't he.

"Approximately 16 percent of the population are telepaths. This is slightly more than the amount of people who are left handed, at 11 percent. Think of all the people you've met who are left handed- that's less than the amount of telepaths you've met, and you wouldn't even know because there's no physical signs. That's why it can be so dangerous and why you need to know defenses against them." He avoided using 'us' in conversation about dangerous telepaths not on purpose, it just happened. He didn't consider himself one of them, so in his mind he didn't feel the need to say 'us' when he imagined the shady criminal mind-readers that his brain conjured when he taught defense. After all, his kind of telepath didn't need defenses. He was a respectable person who didn't pry. Most of the time.

This, too was subject to Falina's notes - her notebook was now covered with a mini-copy of the board, as well as some extra teaching notes. Audiotelepathy... where one could read thoughts, but couldn't speak them. Mental defenses...
Mental defenses. That would be important, considering this was a defense/healing magic course. She made sure to note that down, along with a note to review exactly the pages she'd assigned for tomorrow again, maybe make revisions. Of course... tomorrow I'd be managing the class for real, and not embarrassing myself again, like I did today. Imagine if they'd been able to read her mind when Soren walked in? It would be like a singer who has forgotten the words to their own song.
She flipped the page, putting down her pen so as to rest her hand, and glanced around the room. The students, either typing or handwriting their notes, didn't seem to notice her quite as much, anymore, and so she took the chance to steal a glance at Soren's... well.... his butt. She had to admit, it was a nice butt. If she could see it this well, it meant he'd dressed well for the occasion. Or his clothes fit really well - actually, it might have been the latter. Falina smiled, a quick little smile. She'd also noticed him noticing her previous giggle. He seemed a bit nervous - because of me, she wondered? No, preposterous - although that'd be flattering. What if he was? That would be a happy coincidence.
Anyways.
More glances at The Butt - and then her head snapped back to her paper. I'm supposed to be taking notes, not ogling the teacher's cute butt!

For the rest of the class, Soren pressed on- every so often giving a small anecdote or a similarity and difference between types, some small thing that could keep attention or help them remember. Of course, his attention was actually on the demon watching him intently from the corner of the room, but no one actually had to know that.

"Next class," he started, looking back at the whiteboard now full of notes, diagrams, little drawings, and even a small paragraph, "Start practical demonstrations, so don't do anything really embarassing you'd be thinking about in the meantime." He made a small note to himself not to do or think anything mega embarassing in the meantime either, which would of course prove challenging seeing as he was Soren fucking MacLeod and now he had an oddly attractive substitute demon professor watching him intently and it was making him feel a little like a teen boy with a hot high school teacher.

He put the marker down to the no doubt relieved groans of his students as his mind picked up an eraser and started cleaning up his notes on the board. A few students took pictures, and he was fine with that- he did as well to save it to his tablet like a huge dork. That thing was his life. It was backed up in about 9 different places, held all of his runes, copies of all his notes, lectures, books- everything. It was his spellbook, really. For the modern witch.

As Soren pressed on with the lesson, Falina made a few more notes, hoping to capture the important points of the lesson . If she'd had her phone (and not lost it under the bed, along with it's charger somewhere on the train here) she would have recorded the whole thing - phones in the human world were really useful for things like that. Not as advanced as she'd thought, but eh. More advanced than Hell's tech, for sure. Anyway, that didn't matter any, because the next time she looked up at the board, there was a few new things to copy down, to memorize, to learn. Despite what she now recognized as a formidable teaching effort, she was still a little bit curious as to if the teacher was actually focused on the lesson and not on the cat demon's piercing gaze - that was to say, her own gaze.

Next class.... practical demonstrations. Wait - she couldn't read minds. Ahh, it wouldn't matter anyways - she'd have the page work assigned so the students would be able to kind of get a grip on what they were going to do next lesson. Although, she wondered, am I supposed to teach the next lesson? I can't read minds... but I'll find a way somehow if that's the case.
Falina dropped the pen beside her newly-finished notes, leaving her hands a little time to rest and not be fully cramped up from writing. Whew. She stood and walked over to Soren, who was currently erasing the board.

"Nicely taught on the lesson," she commented mentally at him. "Very detailed, I'll give you that. I took some notes, for reference when I teach - but if you could look them over to certify that I got the lesson down, that would be good."
Okay so maybe it was a thinly-veiled attempt to have Soren praise her. Fine. But he didn't have to know that, and anyway it was good work for a teacher to know what they were teaching, obviously.
