It probably seemed like an easy job because neither Bird nor Dot was particularly messy, and they hadn't bought a huge mansion, although the house was pretty big for just two people. Perhaps if they were two separate people or a little less clean it would've been obvious they needed a maid. Mostly Peregrine was just keeping up appearances, plus a maid was just a person that had always been around at home. If he had been messy enough to make this job difficult, he might not even have hired anyone in the first place.
Actually, both he and Dot wanted to hire Avatia more to keep Dot company than because they expected the house to be a big mess. For Dot, she hoped it would be like having a friend or sister. For Bird, he hoped she would keep Dot occupied so he didn't have to constantly entertain her when she was out. Although he was still pretty much forced to be around her all the time, maybe he could review stuff in his head or something and not have to be completely focused on her. Also, even though the cleaning would be light, because they had had a maid growing up, it wasn't necessarily something Bird knew how to do well. And since he had the money, he could afford to have his house cleaned properly.
Bird took over from Dot once more to finish off. This Avatia girl seemed nice, at least she was polite. And she hadn't seemed to be impatient with Dot's tendency to gab when she got excited. And she wasn't too strange. He knew there were a lot of weird creatures on the island. And he was also aware he should learn to get along with even demons and such if he was staying here, but it was a lot to get used to. Even with her odd eating habits and the fact she was an actual alien, Avatia seemed like a pleasant, teenage girl, who wouldn't be a bad influence.
He had planned on having whichever maid he hired live in the house, as long as they were willing. It did make things easier for sure. Since Avatia had just had a tour, he didn't feel the need to show her the room again, but told her that the room next to Dot's could be hers. The one next to the library, which she could also use. She could move in when she was ready but would be expected to start working on Monday. Even though she'd be living at the house, Bird didn't expect her to work crazy hours and she'd have the weekends free as well. He also would pay her a good amount and she was free to use the pool and library when she wasn't working. She could use the kitchen as well but would have to provide her own food. Bird and Dot were both pleased with their decision and hoped this arrangement would work out well in the future.
