John scratched his chin and considered the question. What did he know about human history. John decided to go with what he had learned through his readings.

"I know that the Chinese were at one point the richest people group. I know most of what happened with England and how it is communist, well actually I don't know that but I would assume that since Karl Marx wrote a book about how he would change the British economy. I know that the Spanish have the best navy, and uhhhh thats about it! Actually no, Also Italy has a lot of people in the catholic religion and we were all as a race on a continent called pangea. Evolution never happened and the earth is several thousand years old"

John smirked as if he had been satisfied with the answers he gave. He hoped though that he hadn't been too descriptive with his answers. He hadn't really had to think about human history, but now that he did he was surprised what he could come up with

"Thats what I got from my books anyway."

It took a lot for Angelo not to scream. He settled for biting his fist and trying not to bite too hard, staring into space and trying to process it.

Holy shit.

"Okay, a cult," Angelo said under his breath. "You were raised in an extremely unhealthy environment that fed you a lot of absolutely incorrect facts, and left you so out of the loop you aren't even aware of the world wars."

Good lord.

"You need like... super... extra duty cultural classes. I really cannot state clearly enough how much you've missed. But for the sake of this conversation not involving me attempting to recap the entire of human history, I'll focus on the basics. In most places--and super especially on Manta Carlos--don't touch someone without permission. Don't even poke them. You don't know what kind of powers they have, and if their power ends up seriously injuring you, it'd be your fault for poking them."

Angelo paused, giving him another firm look.

"Got it?"

John looks at Angelo a bit quizzically. It didn't make sense to John, how would that end up with John being at fault. John then sighed and decided that he would ask some questions.

"Back at home, I was told that hitting each other was a sign of love and my parents did that a lot. But when I did it to them once I got into trouble and they hit me more, is it kinda like that?"

John tilts his head trying to wrap his head around that concept. Generally as a rule, he only touched and poked people who seemed to be really uncomfortable around people, but he had considered it a gesture of friendship and did it with the best intentions. What was so wrong with that? John internally sighed and realized there seemed to be a lot for him to learn.

Angelo couldn't stop himself from making a face at hitting is a sign of love.

"Yes. Kind of like that. Because hitting isn't a sign of love, and they shouldn't do it, and that was your parents being hypocritical." Maybe not the best thing to say. Really, if it had been someone else--someone with training--they'd have been more careful about being hypocritical about the kid's parents.

"You get the idea, yeah? Cultural classes will do a lot better job then I ever will. This is what I grew up with, and explaining it? Not my forte."

He had a pretty good grasp of explaining why certain laws did or did not exist, but explaining why social rules existed? He wasn't a therapist or some kind of... human... expert.

He certainly did have a lot to do.

Assuming he answered in the affirmative, Angelo'd move on with his explanation.

"Prison isn't about punishment here. It's about rehabilitation. Right now, it doesn't seem like you'll be a threat to anyone, now that you know that much. You know what you did wrong, and have at least hte basics. You'll definitely have mandatory cultural classes--ones you'll have to take, probably after your normal school classes--but I don't think it needs to escalate beyond that."

John smiled at the idea of taking classes. He had never had the opportunity to take a class of anything at an actual school, so the news of extra classes was well received. In fact John was quite pleased with how the whole interaction had turned out. He didn't seem to be in trouble and even gotten extra value for something he had applied for. Of course, he understood that what he did was bad, but maybe some god wrapped a present in something seemingly bad.

"Thank you officer... I dont know your name. You are the man who arrested me and you know my name, it would be nice to know yours! Unless that is considered too rude as well."

John gives Angelo an inquisitive stare as he smiles quite innocently. As he stared at Angelo he starts fidgeting with his clothes for no particular reason than he wanted to.

"It is interesting that in Monte Carlo, prison is a correctional facility. From the books I have read, a prison seems like a place where they stick the less savory individuals, not help them."

"Angelo Genovese," Angelo said. "Or officer Genovese, if you want to be formal about it." It hadn't occurred to him that he hadn't given his name, but then the situation had been... truly wild.

"It is in a lot of places," Angelo said. "Like the US. And you're on Manta Carlos, not Monte Carlo - that's a different place entirely. The facility is intended to help people recover, not intended to lock them up like animals. It works better this way.... by which I mean it works at all."

Angelo humphed slightly at the thought of it.

"Either way, I think we've... got a general idea. You're going to stay out of trouble. Don't be afraid to ask questions. You aren't trying to make trouble, but you've got a lot of beliefs which are going to create trouble if you aren't careful."

The issue was how hard it would be to point out which ones.

"So cultural classes. You should get some sleep tonight, because the paperworks not going to be done until the morning, but we'll get your signed up to cultural classes and then you can get back to school."

John smiled but inside he knew that he would not allow himself to sleep. He hated sleep for the same reason he hated his ability. It caused him a lot of fear regardless of what he did, even if the cell could make his ability not function, because of the operant conditioning that his recent life had forced him to experience.

"I'll appreciate the classes, thanks Angelo"

John smiles

"Well, I won't be teaching you," Angelo pointed out. "They've got teachers just for this. That help people learn about society and how it functions. They deal with a lot of aliens, mostly, but you also see people who were sheltered from human society. Lived in remote places, or weren't allowed to go to public school because of horns or something."

Which wasn't true of John, as far as he knew, but... well, who knew? That wasn't his job.

Angelo got up, grabbing his chair and heading out of the cell before carefully closing the door behind him, securing it.

"Try and get some sleep," he reminded John, oblivious to the boy's thought process as he left the cell behind.
