Brigid stood in the kitchenette of the dorm room she shared with her baby sister, shaking uncontrollably. She had read the words on the page, the copy of the medical report she had been given, a dozen or more times over. None of it felt real. They hadn't even been on the island, what, three months? Four? It was hard to tell, but it hadn't been very long at all.
And yet there it was in black and white. Her sister had been raped. Multiple times at that. And now she was carrying that disgusting wolf's...
Brigid grit her teeth and held back a frustrated bleat. None of this was right.
The phone rang and Brigid's heart nearly jumped out of her chest. Picking it up, she offered a quiet "hello?" She didn't want to disturb Aries, who was undoubtedly still asleep.
It was the police officer who had helped them file the report. Any other time Brigid might have found herself fawning over him, but her mind was elsewhete. Her priorities were focused on her failure as a sister.
He told her how the rapist had been using a fake name. They hadn't gotten him yet, but they were dedicating as many resources as possible to his capture. Words or reassurance. Hollow, in Brigid's mind. She had made promises and reassurances too, to their papa.
Thanking the officer dryly, she hung up the phone and smoothed down the wool along her shoulders.
She stepped into Aries' room to look at her for the hundredth time today, hoping that this was all just a bad dream and she'd be able to glance in and see her sweet sister, all this awfulness having been a bad dream.
