"Jeremiah... my heart," Zora said very softly, choking back tears when he took her hands, she could feel a lump starting in her throat. Once again stunned by how much he cared for her. She felt a quiet overwhelming mix of happiness, pride at how generous of a spirit he was, and love, pure love, Zora knew she would do anything to keep him safe, and happy.

"What do I do?" Zora said with a smile as she let go of one of Jeremiah's hand, but held on firmly to the other as they started walking again. "Well, it's complicated, and nothing as special as your Pa and Da did... " she told Jeremiah, glancing at him then softly.

"Basically, I run a company that buys things that people need and can't often get in a store..." she said trying to make it as easy as she could for her son. "It's not actually that exciting for most people, but I enjoy it."

"Your parents were healers then?" she asked then, "How about you? Can you heal too?" Zora inquired, wondering if it ran in the family since Celeste was also a healer. It would be nice if he were, she thought glancing at him again and softly squeezing his hand.

"Oh," Jeremiah said, keeping pace with Zora as they walked. He had to shorten his steps so that he didn't get ahead of her too far, but he didn't mind. It just made him more careful of his own movements. "You are a merchant, then? We saw those, from time to time. Some in town, every so often one who traveled. They sold a number of good things that we needed."

"Oh, but yes. I can heal, like Pa and Da. But I can do other things as well. Watch and see." He pulled a small index card marked with an intricate rune from his coat pocket. Bending down, careful not to let go of Zora's hand, he picked up a small handful of dirt off the path onto the card. Muttering in Old Norse, he held the paper and dirt where Zora could see. There was no brilliant flash of light, no amazing looking change. But a small plant grew and grew from the dirt until a small flower bloomed in his palm.

He offered it to Zora with a smile. "Da said I was more talented than he or Pa."

Zora's eyes grew wide when Jeremiah showed her his magic, shocked, pleasantly by his advanced skill. Accepting the flower from him with her free hand, Zora looked at it, studied the flower. It was perfect. He had made it grow without modifying its true nature. Glancing at him, she felt a true sense of pride and it showed in her eyes. He was definitely more skilled than her. She could use runes, had been taught runic magic, but it was not her strength - she could not even come close to what her son could do.

"Your da was correct about that, and you know what? You are probably more talented than I am," she told Jeremiah. Not afraid to admit the truth, he was much more skilled than her and he was still young. Who knew what he'd be like when he fully matured? Images of her grandfather suddenly popped up in her mind then, and yes, she could see the comparison between the two. Jeremiah would probably become that powerful, or even more she suspected.

Jeremiah nodded, blushing slightly with embarrassment. He shrugged and kind of waved his free hand dismissively. "Pa said I should not be arrogant though. That my magic is a gift, not to be squandered or misused."

Meant to help people. But that same helping people had caused... he frowned, trying to keep Zora's words in mind. That it wasn't his fault. But it was hard to do. He forced a smile. "Thank you for your kind words."

"You are very welcome," Zora laughed happily when Jeremiah suddenly thanked her, "I only speak the truth. You are very talented," she told her son," and yes, magic is a gift. Always remember that. It is possible to lose the gifts that are bestowed on us." she told her son now in a more serious tone. She had been like Jeremiah in a way, safe in her knowledge that she had a gift, never expecting it to be taken from her - and here she was years later, and basically powerless. Her magic now an uncontrollable source of energy that made her hesitant to even do the simplest of spells.

"Tell me... what things do you like to do? Is there anything I can do or help you with?" Zora asked her son, squeezing his hand softly, trying to change the topic to something a little more light-hearted.

Jeremiah nodded along with Zora as she warned him of losing his gift. And then looked skyward as he considered her next question. "I do not think I need help with anything. Gifts are... uncomfortable. I want to earn, to deserve."

Another pause. "But I like tending gardens and baking bread and caring for animals. Climbing the old oak tree in the clearing to sit and enjoy the afternoon sun. Helping Da knit new clothes. Helping Pa clean the chickens we would eat for supper..."

"Those... are nice things," Zora said as she thought about all that her son liked doing and consider fun. It all sounded so foreign to her, she wished she could relate but the fates had placed her somewhere else - somewhere where those things were considered mundane and just not part of a Del Bosque way of life. Her grandfather could, perhaps, relate to it better than she could she realised sadly.

"You know, you also have a grandfather who'd probably like to meet you one day. When you are ready, of course, "she added, not wanting to pressure him into a meeting with Raphael, "He is, like you in many ways," Zora told Jeremiah with a warm smile. "Very good with magic, skilled beyond belief, and he knows your world, grew up in it, I believe." she confessed thinking about her grandfather's life and the stories surrounding him.

"I do? I mean... this makes sense. That my parents would have parents themselves. But he is alive? And he would wish to meet me?"

Jeremiah wasn't sure how he felt about these things. But he wasn't opposed to meeting another family member. Or another witch, for that matter. He smiled and stopped by a bench, offering it as a place for Zora to sit.

"I would love to meet him, I think. He seems nice. If he is anything like you he must be a kind man."

"He is very much alive," Zora laughed, "And yes, he would definitely want to meet you. You are his great-grandson, his first great-grandson actually," Zora informed him, thinking about her cousins and realising that she had been the first. She knew there had been others but they had passed away generations before. The 1800s, early 1900s had not been kind to the Del Bosque line and a lot of her line had died from a particularly virulent strain of influenza back then.

Sitting down on the bench, she looked at Jeremiah and smiled, "He is a little bit gruff, maybe a bit formal at times, but he can be kind, and protective at times. He is somewhat different than I am," she told him truthfully, "But definitely a good man, I think you two will probably get along fine."

"He also grew up in the woods, I believe somewhere in Spain, France, the Basque region, I think. He is a forest druid. Very strong, skilled, gets his magic energy from the world around him," she explained, trying to remember what she could about her grandfather.
