"Yeah!" He pumped his fist high into the air, then lowered his arm as he continued speaking.

"It probably helps that there are laws, an effective police force, and the idea that there's always someone bigger out there. It's difficult to threaten an island when an incomprehensible being may become offended that you're also threatening their family and will take care of you themself."

He leaned back in his chair. "Even then? There's the the woods for hunting and he arena for fighting. If your nature pushes you towards violence, those are the go-to places to safely let out your instincts. Hell, the latter sometimes gives you island-fame, and if not that, possible money."

"Laws exist almost everywhere and are broken almost everywhere. I think it's more the fact that most here are used to not being accepted or are used to all manners of people existing."

Stefan shrugged a little, letting out a chuckle before continuing.

"Plus like you said, the threat of a bigger and badder person makes people pump the brakes a little."

Stefan was enjoying the conversation with his neighbor. He made a note to try to meet his others as well.

"That makes sense. Most citizens are human, were human, or thought they were human. Manta Carlos' society isn't so different from the ones on Earth. It's pretty Western, in my opinion. There's not much for people who were raised in the Narrow Reality to adapt to legally, only socially. Then there's other species and cultures who have their own societies, so it's not incomprehensible to them either. All in all, the amount of people who really struggle are small. And, well, the correctional facility handles that." His nose wrinkled with the return to his normal colors.

"It really is a nice safe place for anyone to exist and just be themselves."

The short time that Stefan had been on the island he felt like he was meant to be there. It was no Fólkvangr but it allowed him to actually learn about everything outside his home.

"So what do you do around here? I gotta start thinking about finding a job."

Stefan ruffled his shaggy blonde hair as he thought about finding an actual job and what he wanted to do.

The last thing Konpeitō wanted was to sour a perfectly good conversation by arguing that not everyone can be themselves. It didn't matter if they were doing no harm.

So he simply gave a tense smile and moved on. "I work at Acinaces Arena as a commentator, at the hospital, annd I do side-work as the head of The Welcome and Integration Society. It's not an actual job, more like community service I started to give adult citizens a place to feel accepted."

Stefan's eyes widened a bit as Konpeitō rattled off all the places he worked and volunteered at. No wonder they hadn't seen each other before now.

"Oh man. Sounds like you stay pretty busy! Makes sense why we haven't passed each other in the halls till now as much as you do and me not wanting to be stuck inside.

Stefan gave a chuckle at the comment about himself. He wasn't nearly as busy, but he did like to get out and explore the city.

"Eheh, yeah! I don't like being stuck inside either. Spent enough years doing that," he replied without thinking through his words. "If I wasn't working, I'd be busying myself with something else. Idle hands and all that."

But according to that saying, his idle hands have already found their places in seedy work.

"I've been considering going back to school. If I had the time. I'm not willing to give up either of my jobs yet. One lets me put myself out there, and the other gives me a lot of money."

Stefan nodded as he spoke about working. He was going to have to find something before long as well. Just wasnt sure what.

"I feel you on that. Ive gotta find a job before long myself. Trying to find something little more up my alley that I enjoy rather than just something that pays the bills."

What was the saying? If you enjoy your work you'll never work a day in your life? Well Stefan would never die of old age so the thought of working through all of it sucked.

"Maybe you can just take like 1 or 2 classes?"

"That, or an online class. I'm still figuring things out. I need to figure out how to change and lighten my schedule. Then, I need to figure out what I'll even study. Business is the obvious choice for me, but when other people have about twelve years before they have to seriously consider what path they'll take towards work and I've only had four, there's a little more pressure to get things right."

He hadn't meant to vent. He really didn't. Venting to friends was painful enough. Venting to an acquaintance was downright embarrassing. "Ah, sorry about that. I get heated up... as you've probably noticed." He played off his discomfort smoothly with a big smile and hearty laugh.

"If you ever need help, I have all sorts of resources. I've only been here for a year, but I've made connections."

Stefan listened intently as Kon went through his concerns and worries. It was honestly a lot of what Stefan went through as well. It was almost comforting knowing there were other people that felt the same way.

"No no. I completely understand. My greatest accomplishment so far has been who my mother is...it's rough trying to get a career even your biggest known skill is being a son."

Stefan laughed at his own situation, hoping it would make Kon at least feel a little better about his. Everyone had their own struggles and no one should struggle alone.

"Well...do you know anyone in the music industry?"
