Huzzah for Boredom!

Myndy sat under a tree reading, because she was bored, and also because she really wanted to finish Jane Eyre. Noticing that it was a little chilly, she paused to pull up the hood on her coat, then continued. It was a little hard to understand it all, but she read the words at a normal pace-for her.

Matthew shoved the doors open and stepped outside the big building. He stopped for a minute and glanced at his surroundings, his hands jammed down in the pockets of his jeans. Matthew didn't notice anyone right off except for a girl sitting beneath a nearby tree. She was reading a book in her hands and was obviously struggling for some odd reason.

Matthew was bored so he decided to walk over and talk just for the heck of it. "Jane Eyre? Sounds dull." He looked down at her with cold eyes. "Looks to me like you can't read it very well anyways." Sure he sounded rude but Matthew had really never strived towards kindness. Why start now?

Myndy looked up, a little aggravated that she had been interrupted, and even more annoyed that someone had dissed her reading skills. She pushed the book towards him. "Well, then you try getting through all that if you're so smart." She said indignatly. "And it's quite interesting, thank you very much." She didn't mean to sound so rude, but the boy had been rude first, after all.

((*thinks....still thinking..gives up and goes crazy*))

Matthew nudged the book with his foot after she'd thrown it at him. "My, we got a temper don't we?" The boy's tone was cool and slightly antagonistic. A smirk formed on his dark face as he flipped the book over and picked it up. "What's your name anyways? Don't think I've met you." He opened the thick book and scanned the first page. Then, glancing at her, he flipped to the back.

Myndy rolled her eyes heavenward at his first comment, but chose not to reply to it. "My name is Myndy James, not that it's any of your business." She took her book back, shut it with a book marker inside, folded her hands on her lap and waited for him to reply.

"Well Myndy, I'm Matthew. I would say it was nice to meet you but I'm not sure it is." Matthew frowned when she took the book from his hands. Shrugging, he lowered himself to the ground in front of her.

His dark eyes slid over her, pausing on her face for a brief second then he sighed as a feeling of boredom returned. "How long you been going here?" Matthew found himself asking her another question a few minutes later even though he really didn't feel like talking to such a rude girl....despite the fact he was just as rude.

In the few minutes of silence, Myndy had calmed herself down by thinking up an ending to Jane Eyre. When Matthew spoke, Myndy tensed, but relaxed when his words weren't rude. "Only a few days." She replied. "And yourself?"

Matthew plucked a blade of grass from the ground and began to fiddle with it. "A long time I guess...A year."

The boy sighed in response to the numerous thoughts running through his head, his hands angrily twisted the blade of grass until it was crushed and broken. "Know many people here yet? Or would you rathe be alone? Like some of us." An odd smile touched at the corner of his mouth.

Myndy shook her head. "Not many. I do prefer to be alone and read, but if you're asking if I want you to leave, it's fine if you stay." She had no idea why she was being nice to him. Maybe because he just seemed a little depressed.

"Oh." Matthew was taken slightly by surpise. People usually felt uncomfortable around him. Not that he felt that great around people anyways. "Uh, thanks? I guess I'll stay. For a while at least."

Matthew sighed for about the fiftieth time and looked around the yard. He really liked the outdoors for some reason. Probably because it was so open and he didn't feel quite so trapped.
