Felix had been tracking a man for a while now. He knew his type. Not outstanding, possessing nervous eyes. He first noticed him at the Playground when he was eating lunch with Toby. He simply sat there, staring at nothing for hours, looking at his phone occasionally. Aside from a few parents scooting their children away from him, nobody paid him any attention. And then, he reached for something at the bottom of the bench and left.
Suspicious. Very suspicious. Felix threw a couple hundred dollars on the meal they've finished hours ago. He convinced Toby to follow the man with him, staying away, holding hands and keeping up their conversation like a lovey-dovey couple, which wasn't hard, he supposed. They'd followed him for several streets before the man disappeared without a trace. That only confirmed it: He was definitely hiding something.
Felix was on his scent ever since. He'd see him and recognize him as "that man." Finally, Felix put a day aside just to follow him through the rooftops, hiding himself with illusions daylight provided. He stopped in front of a random Residential tree. He loitered for quite a bit, and then, tied a note on a string before leaving. When Felix was sure the man was gone, he climbed down and looked at the note.
It was written in code. Of course. Felix sighed and took several pictures of the note, then tied it back to the tree, taking note of the street too. He made sure nobody tracked him before he left, a skip invading his usual walk.
Exciting! Exhilarating! This was definitely a cut above the rest, the sort of work he signed up for. His usual depressive energy turned manic as he spent literal days decoding the message. He'd pulled out several of his old Criminology books from the shelves to brush up on the letters and numbers used. Eventually, he caught the gist of it: Amber Drive, Room 1B. Time: Midnight. Date: Tonight. Felix's heart leaped in his chest at the revelation. He didn't have much time. If he ran this through the Station, they'd take hours to process, and who knew what would happen then? What would he even say about it all? That he was chasing a golden goose? It just wouldn't do. There was too much red tape to go through when he had to act now.
He picked up his tools, got in his car and drove straight to the location, parking his car at a Saucer right in front of the Apartment Complex. Let's see, let's see... Should he just go in? Felix slapped his cheeks, psyching himself up, and went through the front door like he owned the place. Nothing suspicious here! He stood in front of this mystery person's door. Someone else exited a nearby room, and Felix turned to face them immediately. He raised his kit and gave it a pat. "Dear oh dear, they're so forgetful. They forgot to take this from my house, you know."
The person, weirded out, squinted at Felix once and moved on. Thank god for typical civilian reactions. Felix knelt down and unlocked the door with his lockpicking tools.
Lord. He needed to stop breaking into people's houses like this.
He sneaked through the apartment, quiet as a mouse. It was a one-bedroom. He peeked into the bedroom... The man was sound asleep. Was this Council Board member Trent Holtzmann? He wasn't going to have fun with this next part. He slipped inside, dampening a towel with chloroform, and placed it over his mouth. Holy shit, this is shady. Man breaks into Council Board member's home and chloroforms him — actually the good guy! He hoisted the man up and put him in the bathtub, safe and sound. Felix then closed all the curtains and turned on all the lights. He hid behind the counter, ready to put up an illusion of the man in case somebody broke in, a gun ready in his hand.
He wasn't sure how to feel about this, really. On one hand, he hoped he was right, and he saved a man's life tonight. On the other... shit. He just broke into someone's house and chloroformed him. Well, whatever. He was damned either way. Felix, what the fuck is your life anymore?
