Laetus hesitated at her offer. Which one should he pursue? However, the man quickly chimed in, solving the problem.
"That sounds like a plan." Laetus said with a nod of agreement. "We should all be heading there now anyway."

And so the three began to head towards the nearest shelter.

They passed by three city blocks at a brisk pace. The young woman with the backpack was in a real hurry, and she wasn't in any mood to talk. Until, that is, the three stopped being alone. A manhole cover shot out of the ground ahead of them, blown off by a thick stream of water and flying into the window of the adjacent hotel. The water stream stopped about as quickly as it began, then coalesced into a vaguely human shape.

"Joder!" The woman shouted and ran away.

The water-being spoke. It was a gurgling, unpleasant sound. "Stop her!" it bubbled. "She's the tsunami killer!"

Say no more, totally trust worthy water beast.
Laetus opened a portal in front of the woman, making her run into their large bald companion, who he expected to catch her. He didn't trust anyone, even water guy. Keeping everyone collected was the fastest way to an answer. He moved away from the bald man and the woman, giving him a view of everyone, but looked at the water thing.
"Do you have proof?" He asked the being, glancing back and forth between everyone.

Markus didn't really expect the woman to be redirected right into him by a portal. But he was prepared for something to happen. His reaction was quick enough, and he managed to catch her. He then formed a dome-shaped barrier of light energy around the area, making sure to seal off the manhole with another barrier so that nobody could escape. If one or more of them were the killer/s, he needed to know for sure.

The woman struggled in Markus's grip.

"I am the proof," said the water being. "I was her murder weapon."

"That's not true!" The woman shouted.

"LIAR!" it gurgled. "There is only one way to prevent this wave from coming to us. There has only ever been one way." It seemed to shrink, retracting from its humanoid form into a lightly vibrating ball of water. "I would have thought you understood this when you made me."

"Keep it away!" she yelled. But it was too late. Before she could finish that sentence, the water-creature flew at Laetus as a jet of water, aiming for his head.

Wary as he was, Laetus was already prepared for something to happen. He opened a portal that rebounded the water mass into the ground back where it started. He looked between the woman and the water, lost but prepared for whatever was to come.
"So... Water manipulator? That's how you;ve murdered people? And the wave..." He looked to the bald man for some kind of input. If this guy was or wasn't part of this, he still neeeded to say something.

There is only one way to prevent this wave from coming to us... The water beast seemed to know something more about the waves that Markus didn't. Either way, it was pretty clear now that the portal guy (whose powers and quickness to react impressed him) wasn't the killer here.

"To be honest, I know just as much as anyone else about what's going on here with the tsunami. But at least I seem to have a better idea of which of us wasn't involved in the killings."

He glanced over to the mass of water, and then to the woman, before he continued.

"You know, the actual reason I've been wandering around the streets was to find the murderers. And you two are going to explain to me what is going on here. Is this a matter of personal grudge? Or is there another reason for the killings?"

"Not exactly," the woman said. "The short version is, it's a water spirit. I made it, but it immediately went insane and started murdering people instead of stopping the tsunami like I wanted it to. Now can you get off me and help me run away from it?" She pushed Markus away. If she broke free of his grip, she would try to break free of the dome next.

While the woman was explaining, the 'water spirit" was not idle. It split off into three different snakelike bodies, which slid rapidly across the ground, zig-zagging towards Laetus from different directions. Two snakes tried to flank him from opposite sides, while the one in the middle turned into a stick-figure-like entity with what seemed to be a lance made out of water for an arm. This one tried to charge towards Laetus, lance-arm back, ready to strike, just as the watersnakes lunged towards him.

Laetus would quickly portal into the air and fly above the water mass. "So... the water mass was the killer?!" Laetus was confused. How does one stop something like this?! ... Laetus opened a portal at his side and out popped a sponge, which he threw at the mass. Would that work? Probably not. But how else do you fight a water monster?!
