Pasha blinked at her. Ah yes, right as he was thinking it. At least he didn't have to try and figure out a way to ask; at the very least she was upfront, if not a big vague. She had died but was somehow still here. Immune to death? A ghost? He himself was a bit of the latter, functionally immortal in the sense that he couldn't die of conventional means since taking on his title.

"You were brought here, correct?" There was very little other means to get here. "I understand. Partially, at least. I came here freely, but likely for only a little while." At least he'd be upfront about it to her. Anastasia's parents had been some very good friends of his, and he wouldn't bring himself to lie to their daughter.

He gestured for her to keep walking and he soon began to head down the sidewalk to the market himself.

Anastasia had never been vague. It simply wasn't how she was. Either she would hold her tongue on an issue, or she'd be straight forward and to the point, but she really didn't have any interest in or tolerance for beating around the bush.

She nodded. Yes, she'd been brought there. "It seemed useful to come here willingly, before I was found out back in Russia." As much as she loved Russia, she didn't exactly have faith she'd have been left to her own devices if the world found out about her powers.

She fell into step beside him, glancing up at him after a moment. "...Are you immortal?" She knew, of course, that there were plenty of people on the island whose powers had nothing to do with her own, but it seemed so coincidental that Pasha would be here, who had known her parents so well.

How strange that they happened to find themselves on the same island. Technically speaking, Pasha could have been anywhere else right now, doing anything else, hiding behind various guises. Still, Pasha had his various loyalties, even if most of them were dead now. Anastasia's parents had been one of them.

"No." Well, technically speaking no, but most humans would say that he was immortal. "I may die eventually. It would just be difficult for me to do so." After all, an entire season couldn't just die off at the drop of a hat. He also needed to find a successor to give the title to; the longer he lived, the more pressing the issue seemed to become.

Pasha was, to say the least, a bit vague on what he meant, and she eyed him carefully. She didn't know her own limits. Maybe she too would die eventually. She genuinely didn't know if she was actually capable of dying or not. She scowled at him, wondering if he was purposefully being obtuse.

"That - That doesn't explain at all. I just - I want to know if you come back from being almost killed or not. Or really killed. Like being shot in the head." Which she had been, and had come back from. Perhaps it would come off as oddly specific if he wasn't aware of what had happened to her, but she certainly didn't mean it as a threat, even if it might come off that way.

Ah, so she was like her parents, then. He could appreciate that. His expression just barely shifted, something akin to amusement but not quite there. The scar running along the side of his face twitched and he gave it a small rub as if thinking.

"I have been shot in the head before." If he pulled his hair aside slightly, one could see a scar just over his ear. There was also another one nearer to his temple, but that one wasn't as prominent. Various bullet scars riddled his body, alongside others from various injuries. He'd been punched in the throat quite a few times, stabbed at, a few attempted beheading him... Ah, he'd lost track.

"Injuries do not generally upset me; I can heal well enough. I would assume, since you are asking, that you have had something similar happen."

He was not like her. She had no scars from the damage she'd taken, no mark upon her body to show she'd been shot in the head, execution style. Scars disproved it, and she felt all the sillier for getting her hopes up. Scars did not strictly rule it out, because for some reason Anastasia had several small ones (mostly on her hands) from training injuries. But a scar like that - from a shot to the head - meant he was not like her.

"Oh." She couldn't quite keep the disappointment out of her voice. "I thought you might be - well, like me. But I suppose you're something else." Some other form of not-quite-human, the likes of which littered the island. As far as she knew, there were precious few true humans on the island at all.

"I was shot in the head, and I got better. There's no scar to show. It's as if I was never shot. They officials are rather convinced that whoever said I was shot was mistaking my parents blood for my own, because there was no mark at all." That was the best explanation she could give. She didn't remember anything in between her being shot and her waking up.

"Something else, I'm sure." In fact, as far as he was concerned, there could only be one of each season in existence at a time. Of course there could be apprentices and such, proteges that would take on the name after their master had died. He had none, though, so he needed to march on. The old Winter hadn't told him anything about if death happened without anyone to pass it on to.

He hadn't had much training at all. He just learned by ear a lot.

"A fair enough explanation for humans. They're just barely aware of the island's existence, let alone its inhabitants. I imagine this is one of the few places where that may be normal." He'd been a little lucky to land here but at the same time, he didn't know for how long he'd stay.

Pasha was, to say the least, a tad unhelpful. He was very cryptic and secretive, but he was also at least a (sort of) familiar face. "You were close with my parents?" She sort of knew, sort of had a general idea, but she didn't really know any details. "Which I imagine means you must be in the military." The Russian military of course, and she was pressing for details in the most obvious way she could without demanding to know just what he was and why he was there. She already knew why she was there, but Pasha was only slightly less of a mystery to her than he'd been when he'd first approached her, and she couldn't imagine why. The island was fairly open with things. People said what they were, wandered around with horns and wings and what have you out in the open. There was really no reason to hide what he was unless it was something bad.

"Yes, I was. Quite good friends with the both of them, but I left Russia before they were killed." People would have a bit more tact, but Pasha wasn't exactly about that. He didn't beat around the bush; her parents were dead, and there would be little to sugar coat it.

"I was in the military for quite a while, actually. Throughout World War I, II and the Cold War. After that... Well, you may have been too young to hear much of it." The fall of the Soviet Union had been the first, then the whole thing collapsed after that. They'd forgotten what he'd done for them. A pity, really.

The market itself was crowded, but people tended to step aside in the wake of a man who was 6'9". Pasha could work efficiently if people moved out of the way, and his groceries were often very simple.

Anastasia was fine with no tact. She'd had more than enough sugar coating when she'd woken up, with a half dozen people beating around the bush and refusing to say just what had happened, or if her parents were okay. By the third person she'd had a good idea of the truth of it, but it had still taken far too long for her to finally have one of them say it.

World war one? The cold war was hardly a big deal, and world war two was stretching it, but world war one? It had made the news when the last one had died, and Pasha was not nearly that old. Even world war two was too far back for him, and she squinted for a moment.

She trailed after him, giving little thought to the shopping. "Which makes you at least a hundred and twenty." By her best estimate, although she was a bit off - he could have been closer to a hundred and fifteen and still fit the dates. "Just what are you, exactly?" Beating around the bush was not something she was good at, and she opted to simply give up. She didn't care if it was rude anymore - she just had to know.
