How their Eyes seem to Shine

" Um, I don't know… I-I just thought most people around here didn’t have a use for stuff like phones, being magical and all. I'm new here. ” Klef fibbed. The combination of inanimate auras detected in the past two hours along with both of their roomates having smartphones lead them to believe that most kids at Starlight Academy were tech savvy, or at least more so than Klef was.

Klef was able to vaguely remembered having been to the island before, the name Manta Carlos rung a bell too. Although the memory was fuzzier than TV static, there were certain details that stood out more details. Such details like how it lit up so brightly at night and the sounds of cars beeping stuck with them even eight years later.

With a cocked eyebrow and with slightly raised a raised finger, they sharply said. “ I mean-”. Their voice lowered with their finger. It was almost as if they intended to correct themselves, but something held them back from doing so.

“ I mean- I guess I still have a lot learn about Manta Carlos.”

Klef swung their legs over the bed to face Nyota. She suggested that the three of them wait until three to explore the city which did not seem like a bad idea at all to Klef. Even though they were dying to explore every inch of Manta Carlos, Starlight Academy was going to be their new home for at least for four more years and they might as well get more familiar with the campus while they still had all this free time.

" No! That's actually a really good idea Nyota!" Klef replied, fidgeting with the knotted ends of their hoodie’s drawstrings. " I literally got here two hours ago, there’s still plenty of check out around here. Like the forest, the library, the lake and-” Klef listed before pausing, coming to the realization what they would have instinctively said next was one of the very few things they actually dreaded visiting if they ever had to. “The ocean….” They shuddered as their eyes trailed off into the distance.

“ Sorry, something about the ocean gives me the heebie jeebies.”

“And I mean, if that's all ok with you." Klef said, looking back over to Castiel. “ If you’re afraid of getting lost, we can tour the school together, it’s impossible for me to get lost.” They bragged. “ Whether or not you want to do that, when Nyota finishes her classes we can all meet up in the dorm again.”

“Well, I literally got here like twenty minutes ago, and all I’ve seen of the city was through a window of a car. I, uh, guess not getting lost the first time I visit it would be pretty cool.” Castiel told them. He needed to get some more stuff unpacked, anyways. That also meant some downtime to adjust. He sighed and sat back down on the edge of his now-made bed. As he smoothed out the ridges on the blanket near him, he thought that maybe life would be okay here. These two didn’t seem too bad, even if Klef seemed a bit behind with the times, and Nyota seemed a bit hotheaded, to say the least.

He laid back on the bed, but it being a twin bed, his fingertips touched the floor on the opposite side of the bed. He didn’t look in Klef’s direction when they asked him something, but instead stared at the ceiling and responded, “I guess I’d be down with touring the school. I’m cool with whenever.”

Castiel sighed and finally accepted that this was his life. He’d be sleeping in this twin bed in a room with other people, he’d be attending classes to try and control his powers, he’d see angels and demons and everything in-between on the grounds. Then again, he was free. Free from the stress of his old life. It was a clean slate for him, and he was thankful for that; his old slate and been beaten and broken a bit too much for his liking.

And, for once, a genuine smile seeped onto his face.
