Christmastime had changed a lot.
The tall man grumbled as he walked down the ever-bustling streets of the city, trying to keep a bag of takeout - tastier than most things he was used to - afloat among the legs passing by.
It was bad enough he didn't have enough money for a car. That would have got him home without the cold, without having to leave his work for too long, without having to really carry anything much. But the fact that he had no change on him worsened it - that he couldn't at least take one of these gas-guzzling transport shuttles home. At least then he'd be spared from walking home, despite being out when advised to stay indoors. Not to mention all this godforsaken snow. Drier than rain, he guessed - until it melted into your socks.
Which... it was.
He passed a windowfront of a toy store, selling everything from primitive toy train sets to a VR headpiece. The lights of the display were nearly blinding against the early dark of the night.
He glanced at his watch. 6:00. Amazing how he never got used to any of these dumb changes.
Damien had barely looked up when he slipped on a thick piece of ice and slammed, ass-backwards, into the snowdrift nearby.
God, how he hated the winter.

Lewis had decided to take a walk. He still had a few hours before he could check on the results of one of his current tests anyway. Besides Lewis has been cooped up in his lab for a few days now. Chrismas time has always been a great time for Lewis to get a lot of work done. No one ever wants to come into work and Lewis hasn't had a real Chrismas in over 20 years. Work helps him keep the memories of his childhood at bay. Lewis didn't have a bad childhood! Quite the opposite really. But the fact that it was so nice just makes Lewis sad that he'll never have that childhood ignorance again. Even when his son was a kid Lewis could never celebrate Chrismas with his family. He was always forced to work at those times because all the older scientists got time off and he was too young to get those benefits. Sometimes Lewis wishes he tried harder to get those times off of work. But the past is in the past and nothing will change that.

Lewis doesn't love or hate snow. Well until he slips on ice or something like that. Then he hates snow. A fairly reasonable attitude towards snow. Lewis was making sure to walk slow enough to not worry about slipping making it quite easy for him to get distracted by window shopping. "VR headsets... I wonder if Unseen has one yet." Lewis mused to himself. His son was quite a gamer. Lewis heard someone hit ice fairly hard making him turn to see what happened. "You alright there sir?" He asked the tall man who was now on the ground.

"Stupid fucking pieces of ice, slippery pieces of godforsaken little..."
The gentleman muttered a string of curses under his breath, struggling as he tried to remove himself from the large bank of snow he'd fell into. The first thing that hit him is how embarrassed his younger self would have been to trip in front of someone - but right now, being who he was now, he didn't really care aside from the fact that it was a pain in the ass. He glanced up at the stranger's familiar voice, and saw a man standing there, about thirtysomething. At first he didn't recognize him and brushed it (and himself) off, willing his feet to stay put on the slippery ice.
"Fine," he affirmed, with the least amount of words possible. And then he recognized the guy. Forgot his name, but the face he recognized. Damien squinted.
"You're the head of the tech company, aren't you?" It sounded more like a statement than a question.
"NexTech...? GenTech...? Somethin' like that."

Lewis watched the man get himself up and bush off the snow. He would've helped him up but the man seemed like he could handle it himself. He might've just denied help anyway. Lewis would've.

Lewis was glad to hear that he was fine and Lewis seemed to vaguely recall that voice... Where had he heard it from before? As he pondered that the gruff man mentioned his lab. "Ah yes, I'm Dr. Lewis Knight run NexGen. I'm sincerely sorry but I know we've met and I can't seem to recall your name." Lewis asked. He was quite embarrassed that he couldn't remember the man's name. He showed up about a job, didn't he?

@Ashes Sorry about the wait and short reply!

[no worries ^^]

"Damien," the man supplied, eyeing the other with a slightly less serious expression. "Damien Invasio." He was grateful that Lewis didn't offer him any help - he would have turned it down if he had. Damien had the feeling if the roles were reversed, he wouldn't have taken the help, either, if the man had offered. That was but one commonality, he supposed, between them.

"Pickin' up supplies for the company?" He nodded to the store he had just come out of, bag in hand. If Lewis looked closely, he could have seen that Damien's bag also held supplies, in addition to food - cogwheels, wire, a little packacge of bolts, fit snugly at the bottom.
